Ok, I don't know if there is a problem with my browser, but I do not see a Search button or function for this board.

1.      Which Game Are You Playing

a.      Mass Effect 2

b.     Media: physical disk

c.      Configuration Utility | Game Tab
Whatever was on the disc.  I cannot run the Configuratino Utility.  I get a message that it has Stopped Working
2.      System Details

a.      Configuration Utility | Summary Tab
Intel Core 2 Quad @2.4GHZ and 4GB RAM
ATI Radeon 5870 / 1024MB / Driver Version Driver Packaging Version    8.681-091124a-092499C-ATI    and Catalyst  Version 9.12

Creative SB X-Fi/ 6.00.0001.1373
b.     Configuration Utility | Platform Tab
Windows 7 x64

Direct X 11
3.      Problem Details

I doubleclick the icon to start the game.  Launcer pops up and when I click either Play or Configuration Utility, it pauses for a bit then I get a dialog box that pops up and says Mass Effect 2 Has Stopped Working (or the Configuration Utility stops working).

Ok, got it working it seems. Uninstalled it and reinstalled it and made sure I was only using one of the optical drives on my computer. Took the Dragon Age disc out of the other drive and only used one drive to install the game. Seems to have resolved the problem. Before, it would eject the drive with the Dragon Age disc in it for me to insert the 2d disc. It would seem to install but I guess it wasn't.

I have the same probably.  I use 2 optical drives, blu-ray and cdrw, and the game does not start.  I get the message, "Mass Effect 2 has Stopped Working," after attempting to start ME2 from the launch menu.  Going to try disabling one of the optical drives to see if this allows me to run the game after installing the game for the 3rd time.  Hopefully it does.

I also get the same behavior during game install as well.  When installing from one of the CD drives, the install app will open the opposite optical drive bay for disc 2.  Put disc 1 in drive 1, it opens drive 2 for disc 2 on disc switch.  If installing disc 1 on drive 2, it will open drive 1 for disc 2.

Update:

Disabling one of the optical drives had fixed my, "Mass Effect 2 has Stopped Working," problem.

Thanks

This thread helped with my problem with two optical drives. Re-installing from a single drive even though it ejects the other (with Dragon Age in it). I'm guessing disabling the other optical drive would have fixed it too.

Ok I bought Mass Effect 2 for PC about four weeks ago and I have discovered a solution to make the game launch with no problems what so ever.

If you have Windows 7 you NEED Windows 7 Service Pack 1.

Once you have that go to

Control Panel - System - Device Manager and click on display adapters.
Click on the option that pops up and update that driver.

After you have updated that go back to device manager and update you Audio and Processors.

It worked for me and I hope it works for you guys.

----EDIT----

You do not need two disc drives I installed mine with one.

1. Do not necro dead threads from the grave.

2. Do not suggest sub-optimal choices. Microsoft is frequently 6-8 months behind on drivers. Always go direct to AMD and nVIDIA for graphics drivers. If you do not have one of their cards, you have no official support, and can't expect decent gameplay.
