This is a hard question.  In each game I have definite favorites.  I don't know that I like to compare across all the games because even the characters that have been in all three games have grown and changed.

DAO/Awakenings - Alistair for his adorable awkwardness, Anders because he was the best pre-Justice

DA2 - Sarcastic Marion Hawke (I feel like she had a fleshed out personality as opposed to our Inquisitor, HoF whom we have to build out as the game goes on).  I also really liked the sisterly bond she had with Bethany.  Varric.  I always felt he was so affable.

DAI - Dorian by a mile, Varric, though he seems to have lost some of his Varric-ness in this game.  Cullen since he is a generally principled stand up kind of guy.

It's much easier for me to name the characters I want to kick in the danglebag, as Sera would say.

Oh, and Oghren.

Start a thread on it, I'll talk all the smack in the world about Sebastian.  LOL.  Does anyone like Sebastian?

No, but I really like his voice actor. If there would have been a way inside Seneschal Bran's pants, I would have taken it. He strikes me as someone who would have been uber sassy in a relationship.  :P

Dorian, easily.

Cassandra, Isabela, Anders, Alistair, and Morrigan in a five-way tie for second.

Dorian for best-personality (runner up Alistair)

Arishok for best antagonist (runner up Logain)

Merrill for best LI (runner up, Liliana)

Josephine for favorite non-playable character (runner up Scout Harding, although I'm hoping she's elevated to a playable character in a subsequent sequel)

Morrigan and Dorian. They need a spinoff DA game all to themselves.

I love so many it's really hard to narrow them down! I'll stick with two per game.

DAO: Zevran and Shale. Both are really funny, Shale has a unique perspective and fascinating/heartbreaking history when you consider what it took for her to volunteer for... goleming. And everything that's happened since then. Earning Shale's respect is wonderful for me. Zevran is my  favourite romance and character. Didn't think I'd like him at first, since he seemed like such a sleazebag. But his upbeat attitude, humour and intelligence won me over. He's also surprisingly sweet, especially if you notice what affects his approval.

DA2: Isabela and Merrill. Similar to Zevran, I thought I'd dislike Isabela at first, but it turns out she might be my favourite character in all DA. She's wiser than she seems, tough, and kind-hearted. Plus, she is self-assured and encourages others to be too. Meanwhile Merrill is adorable, funny and selfless. Right or wrong, she devotes all her time to trying to help her people, and if you try to hand Fenris to Danarius, she begs you not to. This is the guy who treated her like sh*t for years. I saw a video of that, I like Fenris too much to do that to him. But yeah, both ladies have their failings, but they have so many positives too.

DAI: Cassandra and Cole. Cass is intelligent, kind and idealistic. She's practical, but she's got (realistic) dreams about wanting to improve lives. She cares deeply about her causes, and doesn't care what people think of her (good or bad). When she makes initial judgements (e.g. about Cole) she'll revise them later and change her behaviour, no pride involved. Meanwhile, aside from being adorable, Cole is a spirit of compassion. His purpose is to help people who are suffering and improve lives. Even if it's something stupid like finding a 'special' ram, Cole likes it if it makes someone happy. He's also very interesting, has so much insight into things.

Zevran. Always Zevran. Then maybe Fenris. I really like Dorian too. Anders in Awakening was so frieking awesome I think I place him to number 3 instead of Dorian.

But seriously, BioWare has written so many exellent characters I always forget someone I love. Oh crap, I forgot Nathaniel Howe. Man I loved Nathaniel.

After an hour I propably remember 5 characters more.

(I loved Hawke. I loved Warden. I want zillion games with Hawke and Warden do you hear me BioWare. Inky has a personality of a dish washer)

(Now I'm sad when I realized I liked Awakening 100 x more to DAI.)

So many choices... XD Okay, off the top of my head:

Dragon Age Origins: Alistair, Zevran and Dog.

Dragon Age II: Fenris, Anders and Aveline.

Dragon Age Inquisition: Cullen, Dorian and Cassandra.

Sarcastic/Evil Hawke is absolutely glorious. I keep expecting to fight Batman when I play that.

Leliana, easily. Though if we're doing by each game...

DAO: Leliana

DA2: Isabela. Sarcastic FemHawke is a good second - Jo Wyatt

DAI: Cassandra and Leliana, though special mention to Cole; I read the book and didn't expect to like him as much as I do. Also Dorian. And Varric, in both games.

For NPCs/somewhat more minor characters, Flemeth, Harding, Anora, Celene in TME, Krem...

Bioware just does characters really well  :)

I'm rather fond of Leliana, Varric, Zevran, Cassandra, Cullen, Alistair, Merrill, and Josephine.

All for different reasons, but they are my top tier.

From the books: Loghain (larger than life even as a boy)

DAO: Duncan (so dignified, fierce and polite, firm but kind, and hella sexy)

DA2: Varric (he literally saved the whole game)

DAI: Blackwall (because so many reasons I already wrote so many times)

Cullen

Duh, i'm biased and in love. But he's generally just a really interesting character and i found myself more interested in his story than anyone else in Inquisition.

Not to mention his development from the first game to the present, he's definitely the one i'd say who has progressed the most.

Alistair

His attitude and delivery is impossible not to love. Possibly the only reason i kept my interest in the first Dragon Age game, his conversations were the best!

Anders

Apparently a VERY unpopular opinion lol. He's extremely whiny but i sympathized with him a lot, his actions seemed really heartfelt even with that ending.

Josephine

Cuuuuuteness all over! Probably the one i was most excited to experience a cut scene with expect for Cullen, she's so sweet and just a funny gal overall. She felt like a true friend to my inquisitor which made the experience that more enjoyable.

Dorian

No explanation needed, too much sass for one person and it's not fair.

Why has no one mentioned Sandal? Sandal is the best character ever.

DA:I spoiler:

Spoiler

Also, as a female mage in DA Origins I really liked Cullen, and was very happy to see him in such a big role in DA:I. And I love Morrigan and Flemeth, especially their voices and how they interact with each other. And I loved Alistair in DA Origins. I romanced him (I've only played that game once) and I love how clumsy and cute he was to my Warden.

This is like asking me to pick my favourite freckle.  <_<

DA:O, Alistair. I like that he and my Warden were not only lovers, but best friends. I know not everyone likes him, but I enjoyed the fact that in a friendly relationship, he jokes, he deflects, and then he comes clean. Considering his background he could have been a real jerk, but he generally wasn't. Unless he was around Morrigan. But Morrigan was my Warden's other BFF and the conversations in my head canon are amazing.

DA:A, Justice. My Warden was still very young, so even the concept of Justice blew her mind. She respected him, though, and since she was an arcane warrior, they had a weird bond since he was a spirit warrior. He was alien, and yet he managed to see all the beauty in the world that she couldn't from her jade coloured glasses.

DA2: Aveline. No ifs, ands or buts. She knows what needs to be done, she's brave, she's compassionate and pragmatic (a rare quality), determined, kind of a dork, and she keeps my Hawke focused. Sebastian is my Hawke's great love, but I attribute a lot of Hawke's general pessimism in DA:I to the fact that she doesn't have Aveline to bolster her up. Aveline is my Hawke's sister by choice.

DA:I, Dorian. Breaking the mold (I seem to have a thing for sword and board/mage friendships), Dorian was everything my Dalish Inquisitor was taught humans were not. Surprisingly, although he is very arrogant in some matters, he's also refreshingly straightforward. In a world where everyone is constantly hiding, fighting, and trying to get the upper hand, this tevinter mage with a well waxed mustache and questionable fashion sense admits when he is wrong, is willing to give almost anyone a chance, and threw away his pampered lifestyle on principle. She's working him over on the concept of slavery, and he challenged her beliefs on what it meant to mingle with non-Dalish folk. He's supportive of her choices, cheers her and Cullen on, and is generally the broest bro to ever come from Tevinter.

My alternate life Inquisitor, my canon Inquisitor's cousin/former betrothed, ended up falling head over heels for him.
