So the wiki says that you can do this for your character and it will affect different parts of the game like you speech when crowned Inquisitor or judgments.

Does anyone know, specifically, how to establish belief/non-belief?

I ask because I wanted to get the option to say "I will do it because it's right" during In Your Heart Shall Burn, when you are named Inquisitor but instead I got "I'll be a servant of faith."

edit:

I checked the wiki and it said that an earlier conversation with Mother Gisell would allow you to establish belief/non-belief. I tried to take the options that the wiki said would establish non-belief but I still got "I'll be a servant of faith." I remember telling Cassandra that I believed the Maker existed and when asked about being the Herald of Andraste I responded with variations of "I don't know," "It's unnerving," and "I'm not the Herald."

Should I have instead just respond with "I'm not the Herald" for all conversations and tell Cassandra I don't believe the Maker exists (or maybe at least "I don't know" so I don't get disapproval)?

I don't know, looks like the system is a bit weird. Like that single dialogue option you get when you get SKyhold actually affecting who becomes divine. I had a clear non-believer inquisitor and the only special dialogue I remember getting is being able to say 'I don't believe in the Maker' during the final fight.

Your speech at skyhold changes depending on belief. If you say you believe in the maker you get the option "I'll work as an servant of faith" or something like that, otherwise, you'll have "I will fight for order, not faith" instead.

It's an invisible counter that comes up whenever someone asks your faith prior to Skyhold.

There are several convo in which you can state your belief which should contribute to a counter. I have an IQ who told Cass he believes in the maker, yet refused the title of Herald in other convo (Josie, the speaker NPC in Hinterlands etc) and I get 'I'll do it because it is right' option. So it is possible to be an Andrastian but a non-herald believer.

Alright, thanks. I think I got the "I'll be a servant of faith" option because I kept saying "I don't know" or "It's unnerving" when asked about it. Guess I'll have to be really adamant about not being the Herald.
