Inspired by this thread from the Dragon Age forums

What are some armor or clothing designs from previous Mass Effect games, or from other Sci Fi series or artwork, that you'd love to see used as inspiration for the creation of ME:Next's designs?

To kick things off I'd love to see the return of something similar to the Ajax armor, though without the Cerberus color scheme. Assuming the next character is either an N7 or a Spectre (or both), it might be cool to see it return with the color scheme of either organization. That is of course only if the protagonist belongs to the Alliance or the Spectres, otherwise you run into the same problem as the Cerberus Ajax armor, where your character is wearing the uniform of an organization he/she doesn't belong to.

A modder's N7 reskin of the Ajax armor:

Inferno Armor. Would've definitely used it if not the mandatory helmet and no customization options

The N7 armor looked alright. I had no complaints

I do like the collector armor

I also like the blood dragon armor

I think this helmet looks cool:

On that note I hope all armor designs in the game have helmets that can be toggled on & off. It adds to the immersion when all of your characters are fully protected in combat, or from hostile enviroments. Also it just looks cool compared to breather masks. Compare the armor &  helmet on the right...

...to the same armor with a breather mask:

A helmet just looks a lot better, besides being more practical.

Hahaha I always thought the blood dragon armor looked silly. I wore it in my first ME2 playthrough because the stats were great, but never again. Just felt like an idiot as a knight in space, especially in conversations and cutscenes. Sir Shepard the Shiny.

Agree on the N7 armor, looked cool enough and had various customization options. I'd like to see some armors come back for companions tho.

No Breather Masks!  They just look rubbish to me.

I liked ME1's medium armour.

It's good to have at least some female armour that doesn't have boobs, like in ME3

The various Spartan armours from the Halo series,  I'd love that in MENext.  I never did like many of the armour kits or attachments in the MEU.

Maybe you could upgrade your armour from shops, missions or character level. Say you purchase the 'thruster pack' attachment for EVA missions example. Or because it looks heller cool.

And I like the 'motor-cross' type of helmet the Master Chief wears more than the ME helmets.

I'd like to see the return of light armors from Mass Effect 1. I didn't like those bulky armors in 2 and 3. I'm an Adept/Engineer, not some tank!

I am the exact opposite. With one or two exceptions, I thought the ME1 light armors looked like footy pajamas. I preferred medium or heavy variants, although I still thought a lot of the ME1 armors were ugly.

Yeah I have to agree with Red, I never did like those Light Colossus outfits. They always looked like wardrobe rejects from the original Star Trek series to me. If I was playing an Adept or an Engineer I'd always wear Armax gear instead of the Light Colossus.

My favourite armour from ME1 though, was the Ariake Mercenary ones.

I like Light Onyx armor look on male characters. Don't like it on females though. They look much better in medium. Heavy armor is my least favorite of all. One more thing that irks me about ME2 prologue -_-

If we're talking helmets, I'd like a 'retractable' type like the Jaffa wear in Stargate. That sort of thing (except the Apophis snakehead ones). I'm sure these days with the better graphics / FX they have, they could come up with something cool.

Or as an optional extra (like the Blood Dragon, Knights of Amalur armour)  have the "Classic" Predator (Yautja) helmet. Dreadlocks and all.

Spoiler

Always liked that look. And maybe keep the shoulder mounted canon. The one the Destroyer wears in the MP needs to be buffed. Both damage and 'cool' wise.

As long as armor does look cool and not too generic HALOish it's fine for me.

And armor modding like in ME1 would be great.

Yeah I only wore the Blood Dragon armour a couple of times. It just didn't look right to me.

I really don't know why future Hero of ME-Next should look like medieval knight. I liked armor in ME1. I don't like concept armors presented by Bioware. What I like is this:2519513-mass_effect_edialternatecostume_

I think the Onyx heavy armor looks pretty alright on FemShep. The larger plating isn't as exaggerated on the female model as it is the male's.

I've always liked the retractable helmets in Dead Space.

Yes something like that would be good. It would be great if they had an in-game mechanic where you could toggle it on/off anytime you wanted, not just in the cut-scenes. But I have no idea if that's even possible, let alone having retractable helmets.

I love some the armours we already have, with the Kestrel one being my favourite.

Some of the squad/NPCs have good stuff too. I'd love to see something similar to Tela Vasir's armour.

Spoiler

In different colours/patterns etc. Put some custom styles over the top, not just re-colours.

Ashley's armour is good, as is Brooks'. Kasumi's is also lovely, as a light-armour option. It'd be good to have light, medium and heavy armour again, something to suit different preferences.

Always loved that gritty, WW2 retro futurist art style of the Killzone games
