Ok, that's true. My main issue was with the dialogue. I get that Sera is supposed to be quirky and a bit nuts (not necessarily in the bad way), but I felt her dialogue was, well, completely daft. I hadn't a clue what she was on about. It felt to me that the writing sort of threw the eccentricity in your face a bit too full force, leaving me scratching my head. I wasn't sure what the heck was going on tbh. Now to be fair, it was in the middle of an ambush, so not as...I don't know...certain or relaxed an environment as the other companions? This isn't a reason to judge the character as a whole, but in terms of what OP was talking about - if I were truly in that moment, I'd possibly have backed away slowly. I know my Quizzy was tempted. But like I said, she woofed at her, and she's a bit of a bighead when it comes to the ladies. ;)

Ok I see your point now. Yes her initial dialogue is over the top. But it's realistic in that over-excited, ADD, teenager kind of way. I can see how it might rub some the wrong way but if you like eccentrics (I do) then you might be intrigued enough to want to explore their personality further.

Because it is supposed to be... daft. :P

But Sera does have smart lines as well.  B)

If you don't give up on Sera right away there are clues to her background (Denerim/orphanage) and her deep terror of magic (which is endearing and hysterical in different scenes).

She's pretty much a early 20's brat who hasn't matured yet. But she's not awful or evil for being a brat nor is she particularly stupid. I tend to think of her more as needing a bit more polish that age and experience will provide.

Everything you say here is right and you hit on something else that needs mentioning: characters with bad traits can be interesting. They add flavor to the game. Viv annoys me no end but hey that just adds that bit of spice that I want to smack her after she moves my furniture (too bad you can't move hers out to the drawbridge).

Early 20s? I'd say she's 18 or 19 at most.

Yes, and that's why I'm glad I didn't give up. Her background is interesting, and it explains her personality a lot. Do I agree with everything she does - no. Like I said I generally like Anders as a character, but I'll never justify what he did at the Chantry - yet I won't kill him for it. I can understand why he did it. Understanding a character and how they tick doesn't necessarily equal approving of their actions or attitude, which is something I think people forget a lot in these discussions.

I agree about Viv - in all honesty, I probably warmed to Sera more than her, overall, while again not hating her. She's actually quite amusing, and I did feel for her with Bastien. She adds to the story, too. Even characters that p**s you off have value IMO.

I put her anywhere from 18-22. But yeah late teens/early 20's.

She actually says a lot of interesting and sensible things that are very spot on. I don't know.... I never felt that her speech was much of a puzzle.

Darn likes limits!! :D To be fair it would have worked better if she said flipping "breeches" a bit less!

Ofc she is. You can also make your Inquisitor that young as well.

At some point I'll make a doddering old man Inquisitor. :P

No, he struck first when he used the men under his command to bully dirt poor peasants and commoners.

But that wasn't just Harmond, that was all the nobles squabbling over Verchiel?

If you allow Sera to murder him, all you've really shown is that the Inquisition will allow any of the Verchiel nobles to be murdered with complete impunity, and with them already on edge from our march through the city, we've effectively scared them into backing off and ceasing their land grab?

Not saying that's not a good outcome for the common folk, but it's extremely shady and morally grey for us to have endorsed?

Recruited her in my first playthrough, just because i generally always accumulate companions.

Can't say the experience of talking to her made it likely that i'd consider recruiting her again.

i think the thing that is not being addressed here is that the OP said they were rpg-ing a specific type of Inquisitor. In that regard, we couldn't help you because we can't tell you how to fit her into that experience.

Outside of that, I believe Sera is worth getting to know. Just as all of the other characters are. None of them have a smooth introduction to the Inquisitor, in my opinion.

That depends on the type of Inquisitor you want to RP...I don't think even Sera's most passionate advocates are saying all players have to like/agree with her, or that you can't tell her to eff off if she doesn't fit your playstyle or PC personality/morals. There just seems to be a blanket dismissal/borderline hatred of her, and the reasons given aren't applied to other characters.

Speaking of morally grey...aren't most of Leliana's suggestions for missions pretty much that?

1) The fellow she killed clearly had it in for you. So she basically did you a favour.

2) The threat you face is pretty considerable, so you need all the help you can get. And the Friends of the Red Jenny, while a bit unreliable and morally flexible, are a half-decent spy network.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like Sera as a character and always recruit her. I've gotten more fond of her in every playthrough because I like how she's quirky and unafraid to speak her mind, I just dislike how we're never really given any option to call her out on some of her actions or attitudes, whereas if we do something or say something she disagrees with, she's incredibly vocal about her displeasure?

And yeah, Leliana really got dark in this game, no question.

It kinda makes me hate Justinia because of how Leliana seems to have regressed back into the same person she was when she was with Marjolaine, doing evil things for someone she's so besotted with, she never realises how abusive the relationship actually is?

But it makes Justinia seem far worse than Marjolaine ever was, because at least Marjolaine's mistreatment was because she was too narcissistic to care about anyone but herself, whereas Justinia's "I failed you too" comment shows that she knew that she's been manipulating her and treating her exactly the same as she'd been before in the past, but did so anyway?

Having a basically free spy network comes in pretty handy.

You can disagree with her actions all throughout the noble quest, though...? I haven't played the scene in a while so I'm rusty on exactly what the IQ says when she goes ahead and kills him, but you can tell her off I think, IIRC.

And yes, the Justinia thing was sad. She genuinely did love Leliana like a daughter IMO, which makes it so much worse. :(

Sera's a hideous alien-thing with a nail-to-chalkboard voice actor and utterly unlikable personality. Don't fight it, just embrace it. There is no justification to allowing it in the Inquisition.

i think you clearly can. You can tell her to never do that again, hell even kick her out. So, compared to others, you actually have the power to do almost anything with her instead of, i don't know..... Vivienne, who stays there insulting your inquisitor and said quizzy doesn't even have the power to kick her out or call out on her even.

Same for other companions. I'll never understand why bw never gave us the choice to call out others or kick them out anytime we want.

Zevran, too, but I needed an assassin, not a bard.  I would have killed him if I hadn't wanted his sneak capabilities.  Sera is barely used by me because she's a dick about elves and a dick about Cole, and since I have Varric I don't need another archer.

She's cute though.  I like the pranks.
