One possible response to that... So what? It's the writers' story at the end of the day. We're just the audience. We don't necessarily get to say what happens. If Vivienne ends up featuring in the next sixteen games, not to mention novels and comics, I'm not going to start screaming about it. I'll enjoy the rest of the story and suck it up.

I really regret the lack of tone on forums at times like this...I do not mean this snarkily or sarcastically, but... These games are not made JUST for you. It's the writer's story. I'm lucky in that I like this character and the writing, I admit, so I don't understand your opinion 100% (that you're completely entitled to). But like I said, it's their story. You (or I, or anyone) not wanting a character "pushed" on us is entirely irrelevant. If Leliana genuinely ruins everything so much for you and everything has suffered as a result, then stop playing?

But those games are made for me because they are made for customers so i can complain about flaws of product that i have bought.Even if i like character i can criticize that character and how they use that character.It is relevant because as i said im customer and please don't even go into extreme "if you don't like morrigan don't buy dao" .

I totally understand the way people feel because the loss of potential in their gaming world.  Lana Lang DESTROYED my hopes for happiness with Smallville which could have potentially (for me) being extremely awesome.

I meant they're not made for any of us individually. You have every right to complain if you like, of course. I like Leliana and have also been critical of her, as you may have noticed!

My point was relating to "writers pets" - I've never understood getting so outraged about them, for the reasons I outlined before:

a) It's the writer's story - they can use whatever characters they like, however they like, regardless of fan opinion. Just on that note, Leliana was a fan favourite from DA:O of you look at usage and romance stats. However that shouldn't matter either.

If we're not happy with said character, of course we can complain and discuss, but we can't demand the writers change it.

Again I have the privilege of liking this character, so I'm luckier than you in this situation. I can't relate to such a strong dislike of any DA character. Closest I can think of as I said is Vivienne - if she takes on a role of Leliana-esque proportions going forward, I won't enjoy it. But I can't demand BioWare change it as it's their story - and maybe I'm the minority and the fandom adores her, so why should my view of her sway anyone on the writing team? It sucks sometimes, but you just have to decide of the overall story outweighs putting up with this character.

And I didn't mean to dismiss your views, I'm sorry if it looked that way.

Rather you should do that because you rage that i insulted your favorite character judging that you didn't even bother to read what i have said that i can criticize even characters that i like.

I personally don't like it when they bring back a character for no good reason what so ever, and even change their personality just for the sake of a cameo.

Fair enough. I don't have a problem with the writing giving Leliana such a prominent role as much as with how they wrote some of her personality and the wildly different softened/hardened outcomes. She seems to fit pretty well into the overall story. I find it hard to see that they wrote the whole story around Leliana, unless you want to say the choice of Divine in 9:33, in which case perhaps it's a possibility. I still doubt they would have based the entire thing around her, though.

I'm sorry your experience was affected. Genuinely. I do respect where you're coming from, even if I don't see it myself. Hopefully your favourite character will be elevated soon, and they'll drive me mad. Is it Viv...?

I "whine" about her because as i said she is writers pet so she is negative effect in my experience also pretty much all i have said that i know how op felt rest of this is pretty much arguing with people that started argue with me so well... So dude you are one who whines about thing you made up because 90 % of that what i have wrote is just responding on other people comments that started argue with me...

Well they did there was no reason to bring leliana back after first game unlike for example morrigan or flemeth.

 

Nah i expected that i will like viv before i started but i disliked her but i hope they won't do to characters i like what they did to leliana or do to some characters.

Does anyone else wish we could have hired the guys from the multiplayer to fill up the empty spaces on our squad, if you caused someone to leave? Some of those guys have really awesome backstories and should have been actual characters we could have interacted with in the single-player?

She is. BioWare loves their sweetheart characters (and then breaking them over, and over, and over....) But they have insane plot armour and are sort of pushed into the scene constantly.

 

See, this is the reason why I say people like you make no sense. Leliana isn't pushed into any scenes. In Origins she was optional, in 2 she had cameos, and she's a part of the plot in Inqusition (she helps set up the Conclave, and runs a branch of the Inquisition)

 

There is no scene Leliana is in that doesn't make sense for her to be.

I don't buy it. I've played the same story, and the writer's pet problems that were there with Liara (and a few others) weren't there with Leliana.

Don't get me wrong, I love Morrigan as much as Leliana. I'm just wondering why this logic isn't applied to her, too.

I think I've hung out with too many marines lately because every time I see her act psycho I want to relieve her from duty and tell her "you're undisciplined!"
