A few years ago now, I bought a game. It's prequel was mainly single player based, where this game was focused almost entirely on co-operative and online play. I remember a month after launch hearing somebody say, they would buy the game, but they heard the online was dead, so there was no point. The forums were full of people moaning the online was dead, and ironically it put people off buying the actual game to begin with!

It might sound daft, but people semi-interested in a post launch purchase who stopped by the forums were simply put off by everything they saw. It didn't help all the magazine reviews focused on its single player only too, which was short episodes with a very loose plot intended for co-operate fun.

Thankfully DAI is a great standalone experience, and DAIMP is a free addition. Even so, if the online was dead, I doubt Bioware would advertise it. It's very subjective too, it might be dead now but there are probably many people waiting for an excuse to start playing again, people can only play with the same maps and weapons for so long with other games being released. Even if they released data saying hardly anyone plays, the amount could easily triple with a good DLC release.

Yet on this week's Twitch stream they said DAMP isn't region locked, it's just that the matchmaking will look nearby...

45 Prestige Points for free is a huge excuse. People who didn't return to the game to complete their weekend challenge are unlikely to do so in the future. It pretty much shows they don't care anymore.
People who are yet to come to the game may regret not having started before this weekend - it might have serious weight whether one day make it to the leaderboards or not.

Overall I think it was a wrong move by Bioware, but there is more: this week Bioware is giving us 11 free chests (St Patrick + 9 weapons challenge + community challenge) and all of this is advertised on the game's starting screen so that SP-only players can see.
It shows urgency in regards to bringing more people to play this game without having to invest a penny on it.

You're making a pretty big assumption that they have long-term plans for DAIMP. With every week I start to doubt that's the case. It's a half-assed product bolted on to separate a few early adopters from their money in the form of Platinum. For ****'s sake, the weapon challenges this weekend didn't stack with the previous weapon challenges.

There is that famous rumour they would support this game longer than they supported ME3 (I am just mentioning it, obviously I am skeptical too).

Well, since everyone here is aware of how bad things are, I just wanna say that anyone who still plays actively on PC (preferably perilous), please friend request me. Origin ID same as here.
I am desperately in the search of more peeps to play with.
