Hi all. This is my first post. I really enjoy multiplayer but some of the friends that I have made downloaded a free expansion and now there appears to be a software conflict that prevents us playing together. I have chatted with them in Origin and they say that I should download the expansion also.

However, if I do that I imagine that I will not be able to play with other friends that like me at the moment have not downloaded the expansion.

I do not play single player at all now. and I must admit I am in a "quandry" as to what to do. I think it would be cool if Bioware made it a compulsory download, then all player in multiplayer would be compatible.

Does that make sense?

Not really. Is there a particular reason you or your friends refuse to download the DLC?

IIRC, if a non-expansion player starts everyone can join, but if expansion player starts then the non-expansion ones can't join.

The DLC is really nice though so you really should get it. Eventually all your friends will. By staying behind you will just slow the evolve progress by giving the non-expansion players a reason to stay behind. It doesn't even cost anything to get it.

Yes, both your replies make sense. I shall contact my "non expansion" friends over this weekend and get them to download it.

Thank you for your input.

Yes Zantazar, you're request to make the DLC compulsory makes alot of sense.

Unfortunately it's not how they chose to design it sadly.

I would think it's one of the reasons why the PC Platform failed last week's community challenge, because no mention of the DLC was anywhere unless you happened to check these forums.

I believe the multiplayer DLC expansions are structured the way they are due to PSN/XBL distribution requirements and costs. Also, they tend to be significant downloads, which may be prohibitive to some people.

Microsoft changed policies awhile ago regarding content, and it's free on the PC.

There's tons of other multiplayer games that do not follow this route of splitting up the community with their DLC, paid or free.
