I am looking for another game that is much like the following three: personal 3 portable, rune factory 4, and/or the fire emblem series.

The thing that each of these has in common is they each forge relationships with your comrades, while also being three of the most entertaining RPG's I've played.

(Sidenote: I prefer to play as a homosexual male or hetero female if the game incorporates "romance" into these social endeavors. Romance, however, IS NOT a requirement! I just like getting to know the characters in a sort of "leveling up" kind of way. Meaning, getting to know them is part of the gameplay/your character's advancement.)

Suggestions? I'm at a bit of a loss so any recommendations are welcome!

edit: i apologize in advance if you suggest something that I've already played! I will let you know!

The Atelier series is the first thing that comes to mind. It has the slice of life element that the Rune factory series has. You usually play as a girl too with an exception of the PS2 games.

Persona 4 Golden, Fire Emblem Awakening

Tales of Vesperia (It's got banter akin to that of BioWare games, or Persona if you will, which craft this amazing chemistry between the characters in the party)

Oh, you already wrote Fire Emblem in the OP, didn't notice that.

What do you play on?

Also, I'd recommend Divinity Original Sin if you haven't played it already.

There is a new Harvest Moon game called Story of Seasons coming out on March 31. They lack the action that Rune Factory games have but they share some similarities including getting to know the games characters and pursuing romance with a handful of them if you desire it.

Conception is another game that has similar elements of getting to know characters and building relationships however it's mostly Hetero male stuff (though I think there is a bit of homosexual male interaction -- I didn't explore it so I'm not 100% sure).

I like playing games like this myself but have a TERRIBLE time finding quality ones. Unfortunately there isn't much out there that compares to the Persona series as far as the relationship building mechanics. I'll post again if I think of something...

*edit*

Final Fantasy Type 0 has 12 characters and it seems like getting to know them plays a big role, (I'm only a couple hours in) though thus far those characters seem pretty uninteresting and shallow tbh.

*edit 2*

Banner Saga?

I haven't played it yet but it looks similar to Fire Emblem and apparently offers you dialogue choices that affect what characters stay with you or leave. Might be worth a look.

I also recommend tales of graces f. Personal favorite out of the past tales of games. Solid cast with the most detailed skit art + you get an extra campaign after you beat the main one.

Banner Saga is really good imo. I highly recommend it tbh.

The whole Japanese Tactical RPG genre is close enough to satisfy most of what you're looking for. So try out the FFTs, Valkyria Chronicles and Tactics Ogres of the world.

As far as Western games go, outside of BioWare games, I'd take a lot at stuff like Jagged Alliance, XCOM and the like.

If what you're after is depth of companion interaction, I'd probably go with Planescape: Torment and Knights of the Old Republic II. Planescape was one of the few games in which it was possible to unlock some massive XP bonuses just by talking to your companions, while KOTOR II features a pretty interesting influence mechanic (you can train some of your companions to be Jedi or Sith) which ends up tying into the plot in an unexpected way. If you do get KOTOR II, I strongly recommend getting the Restored Content mod; the game's development cycle was way too short for what it needed, and even with the restored content, KOTOR II is decidedly lacking in polish.

These are all great suggestions. I've bookmarked this thread, so hopefully more people add to the list. In the meantime, Amazon wishlist, here I come...
