I agree that piracy is a legitimate concern, but the usual solution seems to be the stereotypical "sledgehammer to crack a walnut". I guess a possible RL analogy would be a high-street shop that insisted on checking my credit rating when I entered and searching my handbag when I left. I'd never go back. I know they have a problem with theft and stuff, and I sympathise... until they start to make it my problem, in which case they can sod off. I'm a customer, not a thief until proven otherwise. I take the same view of DRM.
Do you think Origin is killing Bioware games/sales?

I don't see piracy to be as bad as some others see, games being pirated doesn't necessarily mean every pirate copy is a lost sale. I don't like to pirate games, however if your game has applied some draconian DRM that makes it uncrackable then it is not worth buying.

Recent games with EA sticker slapped on it are rushed, with questionable mechanics and shady cash grabbing practices, do you see the pattern? Damn even EA forced all developers under them to use the god awful FB3 engine, whether BW welcomed them in opened arms or no I don't know, but probably they didn't have much choice, as well as Westwood RIP in it's time.
To the OP: until I turned off Origin in game, DA:I was unplayable for me. Every 20 seconds or so the game freezes for 10-30 seconds. Maybe just because of damn Origin I will download a crack and play DA:I as pirated.

Diablo 3 haven't been cracked, and probably never will as a large part of the game sits in Blizzard's side.
Fair enough.

In these sorts of discussions it always seems that people argue that it is all Bioware's fault or it is all EA's fault when in reality its all Sim's fault.

I think EA is an all-too convenient scapegoat. While it's practices and management history all but speak for themselves, there's not a lot to suggest they've pushed anything on BioWare that the studio hasn't themselves welcomed with open arms since the takeover.
Well, the question is - what were BioWare's choices? We really wouldn't know since that's a private contract between developer and distributor.
They weren't forced, true. But they were a small company back when EA approached them and offered whatever deal they have now. How else could they make more money? Was EA the only major distributor to offer them a contract? Many other unknowns, at least from what I know. (Granted, I haven't researched it much.)
I do wonder something: When is BioWare's contract with EA up for renewal/re-negotiation? And when that time comes (if it hasn't already) will BioWare become more demanding of their distributor? Are there competing distributors out there whose eyes have been caught by BioWare?
Maybe there's still hope. Though who knows when money is involved...

For the 1st part? If they ban me, they should also ban 2/3 of the people who responded in the PC concern thread in DA:I forums.
For the 2nd part? I didn't pirate the game, I've yet to download that crack and I didn't give any link or information how to download it.

Considering that Inquisition was reported as the most successful BioWare launch ever, I'm gonna go with probably not.
In EA's eyes the people who hate Origin enough to refuse to use it don't seem to outweigh the people who are willing to switch over just to play a couple of games, which gives EA more money because they aren't paying Valve a portion of each sale.

Honestly Origin is what's keeping Me from buying DA3 on PC. I would have probably gotten it by now if it were on Steam or even better, GOG.
I don't have the newer consoles(nor do I really want them anyway) and My Xbox is in another state atm. I don't want Origin on My computer. So I might well end up never playing DA3, which sucks.
So in that case, it is keeping Me at least from buying newer BioWare games(though you can buy older Pre DA2 BioWare games on Steam/GOG without Origin)
That being said, I don't think it's killing Bioware game sales, it's probably effecting it..but killing it, not yet anyway. And tbh, other things are "killing" BioWare.
