I don't play the rest and only change weapons when I'm critically bored and want to do weapon challenges.

If this was right after release, the answer would have been pretty easy since shotguns were the only thing that could get around shield gate at 100%.

 

Now probably overall shotgun is still better, but you can also do well with snipers.  Some of the infiltrators benefit from spending the extra cloak points in other abilities, although that probably isn't a huge effect.

You have it all wrong.  The Infiltrator IS the weapon.

Shotgun. Screw efficiency, I want the see the look on the mother fuckers face when I end his life up close and personal. Sniper rifles are effective and I like them but they are cowardly weapons.

I usually only snipe with 2 of the infiltrators - Salarian and GI.  I'm not a huge fan of sniping in general so that might be why.

A top aiming Sniper should outdo the Shotty one on most maps & Inf kits, because SR accuracy is higher & more wall hax penetration that benefits a Geth Scanner user. The trick part is the console aiming part. On mouse assist PC, well, the answer should be clear, no?

 

But who cares what's better when it's all about enjoyment. Most prefer Shotty over SRs.

I run most of my infiltrators with a shotty, so that's clearly the superior option.

Shotty Infiltrator is much better at close maps like Glacier or when you get Vanguards or personal screen shake buddies all over the place. Sniper is better at something like Dagger or RIo. But if the shotty kit has speed it could be close call too.
