Honestly it's just dumb that shepard survives being hit by Harbingers laser. On the other hand it isn't even the first time that her/his plot armor saves her/him from things s/he shouldn't survive at all. Remeber the Reaper on Tuchancka? The one that is firing it's laser at Shepard? Yeah, Sheapard is able to avoid that laser, which is frequently shown to cut through military-grade steel-armor of Battleships like butter, by ducking behind a simple piece of rock.

Same sh*t as the Harbinger laser-fiasco, really.

Clearly Harbinger hit Shep with his special de-arming beam which removed all powers/biotics and all his/her weapons.

Shep lives as far as i'm concerned, the whole ending is an utter trainwreck so all i can do is use mods and powerful headcanon to fashion something out of the complete mess.

And because IT believers had their Shepards run to the beam and get hammered by Harbinger several times along the way. I'm talking direct hits, even directly in the head, yet nothing happened to Shepard. Then all of a sudden boom. The magic hit that burns all of Shepard's armor off. And to think an exploding vehicle would cause more damage? I don't think so.

 

Then Shepard staggers to the beam and gets shot by the final boss, Marauder Shields. Then shoots him with a pistol that never runs out of thermal clips, even though every single Carnifex in the game ran out after six shots or so. Then Shepard is in hostile territory. The keepers are cataloging and processing dead humans. Shepard's bullets do nothing. Then the confrontation with The Illusive Man. Then ... that ... glowy thing.

 

Nothing made sense during the beam run.... water was running uphill. Shrubbery was growing under where the road level would have been. Too many things in the story didn't make any sense.

 

But.... art.

If that was the case it would have been extremely difficult to run, let alone walk toward the beam. Ever try to run into a 75 mph headwind? Sorry, I don't buy it.

It's a general Reaper sound, you can hear the same in Vancuver in the prologue and also from both of the Destroyers you face.

Once upon a time Harbinger fired his lasers and everyone but the gal/guy in the heavy plot armor died.

Why would Major Coats fall back when this was their ONLY chance at defeating the Reapers? And why did Harbinger not shoot the Normandy?

It's clearly different

But it is not clear. It is literally not clear. It's the same noise with a slight variation towards the end. That does not spell out the word Thanatos.

Why would Major Coats fall back when this was their ONLY chance at defeating the Reapers? And why did Harbinger not shoot the Normandy?

 

Why did Joker respond under heavy static "We're taking heavy casualties up here!" to Shepard's hail, only to then reply again with a perfectly clear signal and immediately fly in for pickup as though the Normandy had already been flying low over London when Shepard called them?

 

The first Joker response is the last thing I can trust in terms of what I see and hear all the way unto the breathe scene.

Try slowing it down and speeding it up. both destroyer sound and harbinger sound.

there is absolutely no resemblance in length or sound to Serve or Save us. 

Destroyer sound has same beginning but completely different end.

There is no end SSSSS in Destroyer sound but something similar to "HUH" , so theory about Save/Serve us is completely unfounded.

Never heard this Thanatos thing or whatever about what Harbinger says until reading the above post. Harbinger says what sounds like serve us or save us.

Coats was supposed to be in command of the artillery support. It is briefly mentioned during the planning portion for the beam rush. So I think he could be given a pass there, as artillery is typically located some distance behind the front lines.

 

But the funny thing is that artillery support is mentioned but never seen during the actual attack. At no point does Shepard or the assault element ever get artillery support.

I cannot rationalize Harbinger missing unintentionally.  All of my interpretations have to work with that.

Depends on how many times you ran to one side to avoid the beam. The player wasn't given that opportunity when facing Harbinger
