Well I can't speak for the OP here of course but I'm disgusted that if I do ask him to leave I have to put up with the game designers BS load screens telling me what a brutish thug I am for giving their much beloved angsty twit his walking papers.  They don't nag me to death for the rest of the game if I tell Blackwalll to take a hike or decide that Iron Bull isn't worth the risk.  I shouldn't be harassed for that decision, especially since if you play the mages quest as I normally do it makes almost no sense whatsoever to offer the creepy, whiny it could very well be a demon thing a spot in the Inquisition anyway.

If he were treated like any other NPC, well then I wouldn't take issue with it.  The fact that he's being forced on me, that I take issue with.  It detracts greatly from one of the more enjoyable aspects of the game for me, the roleplay aspect.  YMMV of course.

I don't know... there are other characters as well that you can't get rid of at all or be abusive, but you can tell Cole to leave, and even afaik drop his approval enough for him to leave on his own.

I'm curious though what load screen are we talking about? mine never stick around for long so I'm never able to read  them.

Does Cole ALWAYS wipe your mind if you tell him to leave or does he only do so if you try to kill/capture him?

OP, did you know there are parasites in real life that hijack an ant's nervous system, destroy it's ability to think, and make it climb high so birds will eat it and spread the parasite over wide distances? The world is sometimes not totally magically happy, such is life, and you'll have to come to terms with it both in reality and fantasy.

Is that real life, or is it just some text from Resident Evil 4? I've been too lazy to look it up to confirm it.

Behold. Just one of the many things that do this, but I'm lazy too.

Hey OP! You should go campaign against nature for being too cruel. I'm sure in this day and age Earth has it's own forum somewhere. Topics such as:

"Earth, did you know your animals are eating each other alive? Even the babies! This is awful and you really have to change this".

"Earth is it true bottlenose dolphins are known for violence and rape? Please change this, pretty animals doing this sort of thing confuses me"

And let's not forget:

"Earth, bedbugs are really offensive to me. I can't kill them but when I ask them to leave and stop drinking my blood for survival, they just ignore me. This isn't you, earth".

And "Earth, i'm a shark-kin, but my great white friends just won't stop oppressing me by seeing me as tasty human meat."

The load screen you get after you try to kill/ tell him to get lost says,
'Cole, No one in the inquisition knows about anyone named Cole.' And there is nothing more to the card.

If you consider a mostly blank load screen nagging harassment, you must not be married. Hey Oh!

Not sure about the PC version - I have the PS4 version and when you travel between two spots on the world map you'll get  screen while the new location is loading.  Prior to getting rid of Cole they usually talk about various characters or world events, sometimes give you gameplay tips - etc.

After giving that god awful cliche the boot, however, about 1 in 4 or one in 5 will talk about how poor misunderstood Cole is unknown to the inquisition, blah, blah blah.  It's a completely over the top attempt to shame you for deciding not to use the whiny punk.  This doesn't happen with any other NPC and honestly it's just a big slap in the face from the game designers because you decided to pass on their favorite character.  Ugh.

Bad enough that the game goes out of it's way to give you stuff almost specifically designed for him at every opportunity.  So no, I refuse to use Cole or have him forced on me, and I really wish the game designers would address this and remove those damn nag screens so I could boot him out of the inquisition and be done with it instead of having to avoid him at Skyhold all the time.

i get it that some folks like the character for whatever reason, hey, that's fine.  For me he's like fingernails on a chalkboard from the get go, so I really don't want to have anything to do with him at all. I just wish that the folks that made the game would do like they do with any other NPC and respect that, instead of trying to force me to  like him.  I guess it's my independent streak, the more somebody tries to make me do something I don't want to do, the less likely it is I will do it.  I can be funny that way... lol.

Always if he leaves; also, in the templar path at the very least, there's no way to *ask* him to leave: it's either "Please, stay!" or "I'll kill you, you demon!" - and he wipes everyone's minds. If there was a normal alternative(he leaves and doesn't touch anyone's mind or memory), I wouldn't have minded.

I'm not surprised that Cole chooses to wipe everyone's mind of him considering he has a limited grasp of the morality surrounding doing that and he really has no reason not to. It is also his modus of operandi until his personal quest. While that might feel transgressive, it makes sense for him to do. Why would he not?

If there is no dialogue options that are not phrased in the extremes of "Please, stay!" or "I'll kill you, you demon", I can see the roleplaying-related problem.
