Hi all. I'm planning to do a S&S char. Now... What can you recommend? I know humans always fit in quite perfectly, but I wanna become champion, and I liked the idea of being a Dwarven Champion. I was thinking about the following things:

1 - Someone told me on my native language forum that most beautiful armors are only usable by humans. Can you confirm?

2 - Someone else on THIS forum told me that the story seems to be Human-oriented or at best elf-oriented. This means that dwarves barely fit in?

3 - What do you think will count the most: +1 human ability or +25% magic res as a dwarf?

Thanks for your help fellow Inquisitors!

1. Human's get access to Templar armor while Dwarves get access to Legion of the Dead armor. Both options are not as good as Battlemaster armor  that is available to both. So the choice comes down to Templar vs Legion armor.

2. Dwarves and Qunari seems to me like the have very little importance in the story, unlike Humans, mainly, and elves secondarily. But that's just me, some other people would swear that Dwarves are the best.

3. Extra ability power matters more since there are no longer OP spells like that spells qunari mages used on DA2. Most magic you need to worry about is runes on the ground that can easily be avoided. It should also be noted that dragon's breaths may count as magical damage but I need someone to confirm that for me. Not that it should be a problem to a champion thanks to Walking Fortress. All in all I think the extra ability point is more worth it.

For Weapon and Shield, I would say human. Just seems to make sense (after Human Mage, of course). Dwarf Background seems very Double Dagger rogues to me.

1) Humans do have access to more racial-exclusive armors than any other race, but dwarves get the Legion of the Dead armor which has been a part of their culture since the very first game so there's more of a personal connection there. (Brosca/Aeducan wore it, Oghren wore it, Sigrun wore it, and so on.) It's also reflected on the dwarven tarot cards as well.

2) Most games tend to be human-oriented because that's the most popular race overall. So it will be obvious in a few places that animations were created with humans in mind first and the camera doesn't get adjusted for height differences with the other races (dwarf's head will be way on the bottom of the screen). This doesn't happen enough to be a deal-breaker. Another reason that the game also seems to be human-oriented is because the Chantry plays a very large role in the game and the religion doesn't acknowledge dwarves as part of it. Does it mean dwarves don't belong? Actually, that is a question that gets addressed in the game. A few NPCs will be bewildered that the Inquisitor is not "one of the humans" and your companions will have commentary on it. A lot of the in-game lore is also elf-heavy, but for good reason. Devs have openly said they want to work on dwarf content and possibly explore Kal-Sharok more. That might mean the next game is more dwarf heavy. It will not mean that humans and elves won't fit in then. It's just different theme to explore. This particular game has a focus on elf stuff, which will make complete sense once you beat it. I don't think you will be left out in the cold as a dwarf player. Humans may have a more immersive experience, sure, but on the other hand, how many opportunities do you really get to play as a dwarf?

3) I don't play on nightmare mode so I can't answer this.

Simple.

If you'd like your SnS warrior to be optimal when it comes to min/max and be very strong when it comes to gameplay - go Dwarf. As a powergamer and roleplayer both, I sometimes curse the maker for the human + dwarf racial not being reversed :(

If you are vain and like to look bad@ss / good - I'd say go Human. Most armors look better on them. And with armor tinting then IMO the Templar armor (human only) is the best looking heavy armor. Something which is a pain with mage + rogue cross-class armor - as the Templar armor CHANGES MODEL with other classes.

For roleplaying, then Dwarf is fine - Human is... boring imo. Despite having more "place in the world", humans feels so vanilla. In my case I always play Tevinter loyalist - therefore human. IMO elven female looks the best for both mage and rogue. Elves also gets their due lorewise.

For min/max regarding combat. Many people argue that the human racial is the best one. IMO dwarf and elf racial are both WAY better on NM mode. This is because /w 25% inherent magic/ranged resist - you can neglect stacking defenses of that type.

Example:

Human racial - grabbing a passive - is +3 will/mag. With will this is 1.5% magic resist.
Dwarf racial - 25% magic resist - equals 50 points of willpower if you consider the attack% stat from other sources.

Edit:  Note that physical damage reduction is easy to reduce, the Qunari passive is imo very redundant for a tank. That leaves ranged + magic damage. SnS passives reduces front ranged attacks by 50%. Leaving the only real danger to a tank (when it comes to dying from burst damage) as magic. IMO dwarf passive for a tank is the strongest racial for a warrior in the game. While for mages, elf racial is the strongest. The only case where I'd consider human racial the strongest - is for rogues. For a rogue, human racial is the best one. Except if you want to solo NM as a rogue. For a solo NM run, Elven > Dwarf = Human. Again, my opinion.
