I'm playing on a laptop with a Radeon 8950M (2GB) using Mantle. The problem is that even with the textures on Ultra, textures look really muddy and indistinct, particularly at medium to long range. I feel like I'm playing Neverwinter Nights 2 instead of a modern RPG. This is confusing since Skyrim, even unmodded, looks much more detailed than DAI. Am I missing something? I've got textures set to Ultra, Meshes set to High, and everything else on Medium, and am getting 40-50 fps. I'm going to try setting everything to Ultra and see if it looks better as a slide show...

As I suspected, Ultra everything was a slide show. However, I found an online tutorial that explained how the different graphics options affect performance and image quality. Now I've got a nice balance of quality and performance, getting about 35 - 40 fps on my laptop. If anyone's interested I'll post a link to it, but I'm not sure if forum rules allow posting external links...

Yes, you can post external links. The big 3 to turn down/off for performance and post processing, antialiasing and tessellation. Off the top of my head I think mesh quality was more important than textures for getting everything looking pretty, though perhaps that was just on character models. You also want the correct ambient occlusion type for your video card model. SSAO is fine for either card, it is the lower setting for better performance. HDAO is for AMD cards, HBAO is for Nvidia, as far as I know.
