I'm a big fan of Dragon Age. In every entry, I start off creating my preferred warrior but then I'm forced to make a tough decision... The 2-handed sword or the sword & shield. My instant reaction is a 2-handed sword. I do prefer to be on the offensive, rather than defensive, and a shield would only get in the way. In my mind, I imagine pulling the sword from my side, having the perfect balance of speed, power, and control. Once inside the game, I see the design of Dragon Age's great-sword. I see my character pull a giant's sword from his back and start flailing around the battlefield, swinging a sword that's clearly too heavy for him. Unhappy with the results, I switch to the sword & shield.

Now I know this is a fantasy game, but as a suggestion, I think it'd be cool to see a more realistic 2-handed sword. My idea is for something similar to the long-sword without the shield. I've seen it used it cut-scenes when talking to Cassandra and Cullen, in which they hold a long-sword like a 2-handed sword, and think it could be a nice addition to future content.

I actually agree with you but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.  But yeah, I agree; it would be cool to be able to use those swords with two hands for increased offensive firepower if nothing else.  The thing that kills the two-handed swords is that the handles are so damn big.  The proportions just make them looks worse than they should.
