The last Eternity thread on these here boards died in January and and there's been little discussion of it since. This seems odd given that this is a forum of RPG lovers. Seeing as it comes out this week now seems like a good time to restart the discussion

What Is It?
It's an isometric 2D fantasy RPG that takes inspiration from the Infinity Engine games (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment). For the more recent Bioware converts it's a bit like playing Dragon Age: Origins from the tactical perspective with a fixed camera (that allows for zoom). Like most of those RPGs it involves lots of exploration, questing and companion interaction.
Combat is in real time and, as in many similar RPGs, you can pause the game at any time to issue commands to your party. The game features a party of six which can consist of either premade companions with their own personalities, your own custom built characters or a mixture of the two.
The game features 11 classes. These run the gamut of traditional, DnD inspired staples like wizards, fighters and rogues to those with more unusual mechanics like ciphers (psychics who power their abilities through physical attacks) and chanters (a brilliant, very unusual take on bards). It also has five playable races which, again, include familiar races like humans, elves and dwarves as well as more unusual ones like Orlans (diminutive, furry cat-like people) and Aumua (large, semi aquatic people).
There is both a robust reputation and disposition system to promote role-playing. Reputations are how particular factions feel about your character. If a faction likes you they may be more inclined to work with you, if they don't they may oppose you. Dispositions affect how your character is perceived in a general sense. Depending on how you converse with people you can be seen as rational, honest, deceptive, clever, stoic, aggressive, passionate, cruel and/or benevolent.
Who's Making It?
Obsidian Entertainment: the makers of Knights of the Old Republic 2, Fallout: New Vegas and Neverwinter Nights 2. The team includes Josh Sawyer (lead designer of New Vegas and Icewind Dale 2), Tim Cain (the guy who made Fallout and Temple of Elemental Evil) and Eric Fenstermaker (the guy who designed Vault 11 in New Vegas). It also has contributions from Chris Avellone (Planescape: Torment, KOTOR 2) and George Ziets (Mask of the Betrayer).
What's the Setting Like?
It's set in The Dyrwood, a land that has recently thrown off the yoke of colonial oppression. Relations between settlers from the former foreign rulers (the Aedyren empire) and the local Glanfathan tribes are uneasy. In addition some people are beginning to experiment with animancy, a magical science that involves the manipulation of people's souls. Not everyone is convinced this is a good idea. The technological level of the world is equivalent to the late middle ages, as such it includes simple firearms as well as the kinds of arms and armour you might expect to find in a fantasy RPG (everything from swords to crossbows to warhammers).
