Being an Aedyran doesn't exactly  help the situation when you meet Aloth (they recognize you as such)

People are generally hostile. But that's okay, since you need a lot of cash in this game and being able to get loot from hostile people is generally a good thing.

Btw, I have a question. Anyone got far enough with their godlikes, especially the less accepted ones? Does the world react to them? I've never gotten past the first map with mine, but so far no reactivity. I would like to know if they are worth playing for reactions alone.

So far only one npc on a sidequest has reacted to my character (godlike/death) beeing "touched by berath", but other than that, not really.

^People don't react much to your race. Where you come from matters more compared to races. Infact, since my Godlike Death is supposedly blind and hideous looking, yet no one is really bothered by her and in dialogs people still "gaze directly into my eyes".

That gets very tricky to pull off without having the player being the only one not understanding what's going on in a conversation between their character and someone else.

Which can actually happen if you have high intelligence in the first encounter in the game. The high INT options started this chain of conversations about the intent of some good and some tribe and all I could do was just stare slack-jawed at my screen. In the end I think this is better in that out because it adds to the richness of the world but it's certainly a lesson to take that perhaps more accessible writing to start would make things less confusing. Obsidian is (rightly) not writing for the mainstream, so my criticism here isn't about discouraging others from moving forward so much as it is just understand what options I am picking.

As I recall, I've had two instances where being a godlike mattered. Once was when my fire godlike got to light some torches with his hair, and the other was when some guy did a double take when he saw me.

And I'm not even that far into the game.

The game does have far less reactions to race than Inquisition does, for instance. On the other hand, it reacts to your stats more. I suppose choices had to be made.

Albeit it is a bit weird that nobody comments on my Pale Elf PC despite them being so rare in Dyrwood even seeing one is uncommon.

Inquisition wasn't really that reactive. I only remember being acknowledged as a qunari 3 times throughout the entire game.

The main characters "ability" is pretty awesome. I don't wanna spoil anything really, but it does open a lot of cool storytelling possibilities!

Is it? Considered a weak class that is.

Rangers being considered weak is a hangover from the early beta builds. These days they're very powerful so long as you look after their companion animal.

I'm hanging around on Obsidian forums and that seemed to be general consensus whenether I tried looking for a good character build. But as MasterPrudent said it seems to have carried out from the Beta. I'm having no problems with my ranger to be honest, but you do have to be careful with animal companion.

Thank you all for responses to my question. Shame there are not that many reactions, but I guess they can't include everything, and some races that way would have been more fun to play than others. The little bits still make godlike worthwhile playing. I will definitely try one.

Heh, this is kind of epic, torching things with your head. I hope there are more ingame.

My pale elf didnt have anyone reacting to her either. Im not very far, just left Gilded Vale.

I do agree in Inquisition I was playing a Dalish and I've had people reacting to her everywhere I went (I stated it as one of the things I loved here on the forums). On the other hand Inquisition has 4 races and PoE has 7? plus subraces. So I did not really expect an abundance of reactions.

Yeah i am playing ranger aswell and so far it is decent. I am going as ranged dps and other than micromanaging the pet, the damage output is pretty good. I do wish i had choosen the bear though, but only for its survivability. Also i guess it depends on if you are using the link between you and the pet which grants accuracy and so forth.

I've been off this forum for a while. It kinda really bugs me that Inquisition is still not out for Mac, probably never will be. I loaded it on a Win laptop I have, and it plays, but still kinda ... wonky. I just couldn't get into it, too. I was worried about certain things about the game ... that came true, *sigh*. So I've mostly been playing other stuff...

I have been waiting for Pillars of Eternity, like ... forever. I was so hoping it would meet my anticipations ... expectations.

Wow. It's like reopening a door to some place you thought was gone forever. **Golden warm nostalgia**.

A party of 6 where you can control the tactics/actions of all of them and synergize. Actual text dialogue I can READ to then make choices. Lots of classes to choose from, not just 3 + "kits". Lots of races, too. Combat that works at the pace you prefer ... paused, "slow mode," or fast. Good to see they chucked the antiquated D & D system, moving toward their own IP which makes more sense on a computer ... almost all die rolls being "D100", and game phases based on seconds instead of "rounds".

The cipher & chanter are psionicists & bards made more interesting.

You can play it either "IWD style" with 6 roll-your-owns, or pick up the included companions, and then have all that rich interactivity we love from Bioware games. Point is, the game gives you the choice of doing either ... or mixing & matching to play both ways. Player choice and freedom, just imagine.

Unlike Might & Magic Legacy X, this is more of a retro step back to 2000 instead of 1985. Yes, so it's back to the days of 2.5D isometric graphics. But I have to say, when you have talented artists & a good engine, this can still be as much interesting to look at as "true" 3D. It's still much better than the old Infinity Engine days.

One interesting thing about the game world difference: PoE's game world definitely has active gods, priests, and religion in it once again, in fact "soul technology" seems pivotal to the plot. I'm not saying this is better or worse than the "question mark" religion of Inquisition's game world, but it is interesting to see that type of fantasy world again.

You know, I tried Wasteland 2, and it's got some redeeming features, but I'm still liking PoE a whole lot better. I think it's just a genre thing; have never loved games in the post-apocalyptic genre as much as 'hard' space opera sci-fi or fantasy.

They seem to be very mod-friendly for their game, as opposed to DA:I, where it seems there will be mods trickling out but with zero help from the development team, including any official mod tools.

And finally, hate me hate me for saying it, glad to know there's a developer -- Obsidian -- who still develops for PCs, and all PC platforms, Mac OS X & Linux versions all out with the Windows one the same day ... sorry console folks, no console version.

Yes I love this game ... love it love it love it. More than Inquisition.

^I kind of prefer preset characters more than the ones you hire yourself. They actually talk to each other every now and then in a very cool way. More so than the preset companions vs henchmen in Divinity: Original Sin.

Same here (Im also a sucker for bows and animals, heard ranged rogue was much better, but Im in love with animal companions).

She started off quite weak (using Pale Elf instead of Wood), but I have given her a wounding shot which hobbles the opponent and the wolf a sneak attack ability. The wolf now deals some really good damage to opponents that qualify before he manages to lose health. I dont know how far it will hold, but so far this is the combination that got me through most of the enemies.

Remember to talk them to every once in a while too, at least when you first recruit them and when they have a little speechbubble on their portrait.

Pets are a bit unreliable. But if you are going to rely on it to do damage then it is prudent you either hire or recruit a fighter to tank/cc.

A party of rangers is actually kind of fun. Watching enemy paladins trying to swat a horde of boars and stags is amusing.

I went with the lion because doh Lioness, then it turns out it has a mane, sigh. Also it has the ability to fear sort of. If i could choose a new one i would go with fox or wolf. Yeah i will probably do a ranged rogue next playthrough just to see, but i am guessing sneak attack with bow makes it much stronger than ranger is currently. Still there are always ways to tweak your character in these games to make you come out on top so not to worried. Ranger is still awesome.

You have to find custom potraits with POE. The character model is basically superflous in that regard.

I downloaded a pack of portraits even before preload was done ^^ Ah, the joy back in the days of BG1 and 2 when I searched the web for portraits and created a char around that pic ... (my portrait here however...hm...I used only in Hordes of the Underdark for a preistess iirc...maybe I should re-roll another char...nah..not yet)...

And I have to say: the character-models are way ahead of Wasteland 2 and almost as good as in Divinity - yet with way more options to create chars. I like it, really, really like it...

I hired a female rogue elf and gave her the sinister voice and she doesn't talk with her movement commands. Does anybody else have that issue?

I had the same high Int conversation thread, where I caught a clansman in an existential theological discussion to prove his deity would approve of him not killing me. I liked it, as it was actually fairly informative and allowed the PC to use a knowledge skill they should have. After all, everyone else is acting as if they have lived in this world all of their lives... why not the PC?

I thought it was well-done; it was just incredibly abrupt. I'm not really used to being completely lost in the middle of a conversation, and I find it a bit difficult to distinguish between options sometimes without knowledge of the world.

That being said, I really think whoever wrote the PC dialogue options needs to have a lesson in pragmatics. There's a lot of information integral to speech that isn't really conveyed well in a game that only has relatively neutral lines written for the PC.

I don't want to enable the meta-game dialogue cues yet because I don't want to know the consequence of what I say, but rather the contents of my delivery.

Maybe she is SO sinister, she's silently plotting your doom...?...!

In all seriousness though, I haven't experimented with any of the hirelings.

In high Int responses we trust :D

Seriously though, I do agree. It's a tough balancing act to work out, where you don't neccessarily understand what your character is saying.

Still... that's how you do it! That's how you debate!
