They need more portraits or just let us screencap our character and use that as a portrait (ala Wasteland 2).
I like rolling with a custom party in PoE and the lack of variety is troubling...

Divinity probably has the best gameplay of any rpg I've played in the last couple of years. I particularly like all the options you get and how you can tackle combat in different ways. Gameplay is it's strongest focus.
Anyway, I was also going to get to Wasteland 2 too. If you have played that, is it good?
Divinity was ... maybe my biggest dissapointment 2014, and yeah, I understand that DAI is best RPG of the year for many, not DOS. The turn-base-combat probably is the strongest selling-point, its very fun and satisfying to play. And the bickering between my two main chars, I dig that but...
the rest of the game was underwhelming. The artstyle didn'z "click" with me for some reason...best example here is the "Ghoul at the lighthouse" - just too ridiculous to me. Also companions were only two and kinda bland and uninteresting (not sure about the others added later). The story and world just felt...meh to me. If a world itself doesn't really take itself that serious, how am I supposed to do this? I simply could not get immersed in Divinity and stopped playing reaching Act 2...
Wasteland 2? Much more fun story-wise to me, not sure why though...maybe because not much post-apocalypse-games around to choose. I still think Fallout 2 is king though. Turn-Based-Combat is nice okay but rather dull too. Nowhere near as much fun to experiment as in Divinity...
Overall, from the three oldschool-RPGS now released...Pillars is for me the best mix. Good combat with lots of possibilities, a lot of interesting companions, and most important a world I am actually interested in getting to know better...

Pillars is the best of the kickstarter games thus far if you ask me. Shadowrun Returns was bare bones, Divinity is very overrated, and Wasteland 2 was a major disappointment.
It's good to see something actually deliver on most of it's promises.

Which i find strange because while they always had humor abound in their games there was enough interesting and serious things to keep playing. I dont know what happened with Original Sin, but i don't recognize Larian.

I regret Cadegund was cut out of the game.
Really liked her concept
I do wonder why they replaced her with Durance. Not that I dislike the guy, quite the opposite, but the girl with a big gun looks much more imposing than a crazed priest in a burnt robe. ![]()

Too bad my sound is screwed on my computer or I'd go and get this.

I went ahead and got this after watching it streamed. Looks like a game I'll enjoy since I also enjoy the full Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games. Also nice to have font scaling and such right out of the box; even at 2560x1600 I have no trouble reading text. Think I'll try it in DSR mode tonight and see how that goes.

As I recall, they would switch to a backup portrait if their portrait was chosen by the player.
Yeah some did. the ones tied to big quests. Minsch, Edwin, Dynaheir, Imoen, Khalid and Jaheira. The rest just got removed.

Maybe they will put her back into the game via DLC or expansion? I am sure they have written tons of background stuff for her anyway.

Seems Tides of Numenera will deliver the goods too. Been reading up on interviews and seeing some stuff on youtube. I suspect it might be just as good as Pillars.

Moon godlike look awesome in their character model. Far less so in their one portrait that looks a bit like a weirdly coloured growth.Try playing as a Godlike. Not a single one of the portraits matches up with any of the face options. Which I could maybe understand if there were tons of face options, but there's not. Nature Godlike has three faces, one portrait. And that portrait does not match any of the three faces.
Really?

Obsidian is an AAA studio. All they did was make what would be an absolute premier and hyped release in 1998-2003 in 2015. It's a very different endeavour since we've got some of the best talent in the industry working on a type of project that they have substantial experience with finishing.
I'm not trying to take away from their achievement. I'm just saying that they are a special case, which is why they got so much funding to start with via Kickstarter etc.

and InXile is not a AAA studio? Truth be told id rank them both together.

Ajantis didn't.
Kivan did, I remember. First time I played the game I was using his portrait. I remember looking at some list over where to find every NPC and their classes and all that. Searched for hours for Kivan. Turned out it was the portrait I was using that kept him from the game.
Maybe they fixed things like that in patches and such later on?

I can see why it's disappointing to you. I didn't really care for the story or the characters either. After I got the hang of the game, I played it for the gameplay. Now, the end boss was pretty bad, it was nearly as long as DA:O's final boss but it was set up worse.
I quite liked the art style and the bartering system but the world itself wasn't as interesting.

Isn't InXile former interplay along with some RPG talent? I'm not saying they're not gaming veterans, so much as I'm not as conviced they're the same caliber of RPG designers from a top-level mechanic POV. Wasteland 2 shares a lot IMO with games like IWD which is really about a gameplay first model with the story and interaction secondary if not tertiary.

True that. Wasteland 2 is very very much like Icewind Dale.

Hopefully. I also liked the Cipher detective orlan concept. I havent met anyone like that, shame they scrapped him.

I love some of the comments. "Did you check them for poison?"
It was nice of Bioware to send those, though.

If I buy Pillar of Eternity today what difficulty level should I start out on? I was thinking normal but I have no problem playing on easy especially since I'm a bad player. I'm awful at puzzles but I hear there's keys to find instead of doing the puzzles?
That's all I can think of right now.
Easy, Normal and Hard can be changed in the game, the Path of the Damned and Trial of Iron require you to start a new game. So I think it doesnt really matter. You can start with any of the three and change if the game feels to easy or too difficult for you.

Reload every battle until you get great dicerolls, or the enemy gets really bad dicerolls.
