I love some of the comments. "Did you check them for poison?"
It was nice of Bioware to send those, though.
Espeically since former Bioware employees worked on Pillars.

If I buy Pillar of Eternity today what difficulty level should I start out on? I was thinking normal but I have no problem playing on easy especially since I'm a bad player. I'm awful at puzzles but I hear there's keys to find instead of doing the puzzles?
That's all I can think of right now.
If you're experienced with IE games like Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale, then you should be okay on normal. THe difficulties affect the combat, not puzzles or anything like that, that I can tell.
about 25 hours in and I decided to restart. In between the limited resources and massive copper expenses on transferring spells, Wizards feel week ![]()
Started a new Cipher, already the class feels far more powerful and capable.
Has anyone dared to attempt an Expert Mode, Trial of Iron, and Path of the Damned playthrough yet?
I can only imagine the rage that those peramiters would cause.
Nevermind that, there's an actual achievement for beating the game by resting less than 4 times.
Now that is crazy.
Solo-ing is somewhat manageable. A hit and run rogue with a blunderbuss can easily solo areas without much of a fuss.

Wow. Well I have definitely missed that challenge then. ![]()
Forget demons. BEARS, they're the true threat nobody sees coming.Yeah that bear will mess you up if you go at it alone. It's like, a Dragon Age bear
Damn bears...
Ogre Druid!

What are the dimensions of custom portraits that I need?

There are trade-offs. While building focus and thereby firing spells in an endurance contest is easier with a Cipher, as you get certain items (e.g. bonus spell slots and ring of wizardry) you can easily get 40+ spells for your varying levels, and IMO you don't really need that many spells.
I had a lot more fun being a wizard over my first class choice, the chanter. I found the chanters to be too passive, and their spell pool was very limited for my tastes.
I know they say the chanter invocations are really strong, but most of the time it always paled in comparison to the wizard abilities id say.Not to mention I had too much fun collecting books to add to my collection

Here is the thing: in a party-based RPG like PoEE there is a huge trade-off between mathematically optimal builds and your own playstyle. This extends even to action RPGs. Non-tank melee characters are 100% DOA in my hands. Those things will die in the most painful and immediate way even on easy. On the other hand, give me a tank, an off-tank, and a bunch of ranged spellcasters focused on raw damage and I will faceroll hard w/o too much fuss (though sometimes RNG dependent).
Let's use a Cipher as an example. Absolutely non-functional character in melee in my hands. With an arbalest or crossbow (or even the guns)? Death-incarnate.
Chanters require you to be adept at playing the buff game. That doesn't work for everyone.

Don't have to lecture me on that. It's why I normally don't do the buff game anymore since I played Everquest. I wanted to try out chanters because I enjoy summoning spells a lot. It certainly helps with their builds but since chanters need to be in close proximity with the party, front-line fighting, or at the very least secondary front line fighting, is strategically a good position to allow buffs and debuffs to go off. So the class itself is fine, just not a fan of passive abilities.
Probably why I always hated bards in tabletop games...in my experience they just sort of...sit there.
with that said, Kana is deadly at close range ive found. The right weapon in his hand...ive been going with fine rapiers mostly, makes him tough to deal with, along with his skeleton crew.
I'm enjoying playing a greatsword-wielding fighter. Not the biggest damage dealer on the block, but still respectable. And can take a hit or two.
May try a cipher for my next character
Yes, we can. Im playing with a custom portrait (my avatar) and added several other custom portraits.
You have to resize them via some image program (i use Photoshop), the big portraits are the same as BG size - 210x330 pixels, the small ones are 76x96 pixels.
There are specific folders for the portraits, something like - C:\GOG Games\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\data\art\gui\portraits\player\female for female, separate folder for male. Or your own path for the game (if you're using Steam). Its very easy, they are in a png format though, not bmp.
Unfortunately I didnt find a way to change portrait midgame, I dont think there is an option.
Cool, thanks! ![]()
Does this game reach a point in which where you understand the mechanics it just becomes so easy that it feels like a chore?
I found the brothel.

I seem to remember Argonians having some outfit limitations too. In Morrowind. Not sure what it was, though.

Same thing as Khajit, because they had the same character model.
Also made them harder to use in most cases, although Argonians were broken because of water breathing...

And let the min-maxing begin!
Truth be told, ive found Might and Perception to be the most valuable statistics for a character, Intelligence is good for casters for the AoE though...
