One of my adventurer NPCs I made to test non-companion classes is a ranged rogue. Sneak attacks with a blunderbuss are fun. Rogues in general are probably the best ranged classes. They sure are much better at it than Rangers.

>Claims to hate SJWs for being nitpicking hypocritical busybodies

>Buys Pillars of Eternity

>Skips over crowsourced joke that fell flat to avoid breaking immersion and get on with the game

>Discovers the joke through a flamewar on Twitter

>Hears the guy who created the joke convinced Obsidian to replace it with a funnier one

>Obsidian is now ruined forever, their integrity is gone

Never change, gamergate, never change.

If he was okay with the removal then there is no problem.

They contacted him asking what he wanted done, he decided to replace the poem with one making fun of the whole situation. End of.

It's yet another minor incident blew up by both those groups. I really hope both GamerGate and its opponents fade into obscurity as soon as possible, I was sick and tired of that nonsense long ago.

I can't lie, when it began I was part of one side. It became too annoying for me. Both sides have reached a point if optimal flinging ****.

Having finished the game, I can say it was really enjoyable. Once more people finish maybe we can have a spoiler conversation about it? It tried to be a lot like PS:T in the end, and it's interesting - I thought it really captured the spirit of both PS:T and BG in how it melded the two toghether. I'm really looking forward to how the series evolves from here. It's a good time to be an RPG fan.

Did the ending set up for a continuation of the story with the same characters? Or is it looking to be like TES, where events set in the world (not the characters themselves) would be the source for future games?

I want to thank those who gave me advice about whether or not I'd enjoy the game (love RPGs, unfamiliar with IE RPGs).  I gave it a try and am enjoying it quite a bit.  I actually like the control system since I normally game on a PS4 and so the ability to pause while I figure out what computer key to hit is actually quite important to my survival.  :)   The story is pretty good and the fighting is tough.  I've only scratched the surface of all the technical parts of combat, but it's fun to try to get a handle on it.

I do get tired of the isometric camera.  I like it for combat, but it makes me feel oddly detached from the main character the rest of the time.  And I'd trade every one of the companions for one Cassandra Penteghast.  But it's definitely a nice change of pace after so much Dragon Age: Inquisition.  So thanks!

i might be a while, going slow at this point with my Godlike Wizard.

One fun thing, Wizards are really good with guns too...

So the more I play this, the more I think hey, this could be a good tabletop game if you do a couple of rewrites and have a decent system under it.

Might actually experiment and make a homebrew out of it. And the best part is I don't need to use d20 for it either!

Funny thing is, a Pillars of Eternity card game and tabletop game are being planned.

I'm thinking of restarting again with a sword and shield Barbarian: 16 Strength, 16 Constitution, and 15 Dex.

Should I use a small shield or a medium shield? How much damage reduction in the armor should I get?

I guess I like playing around with builds more than finishing the story. :)

If you do go through with that and need any play testers, sign me up.

I had a pistol on Aloth for the longest time, but at some point after gaining enough levels, he could throw at least one spell during every large encounter and didn't need to rest before someone else did. As his spellcasting got more frequent, the more I found the pistol's recovery speed to hinder my ability to immediately cast spells at an ideal formation of enemies and allies

If they are developing a tabletop already it might not matter.

That said, I was thinking a d100 system in the vein of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, heavily modified, might be in order. The game already uses a 100% style rolling system, so it seems possible to do that with grazed, normal and critical hits as the base.

The trick then is to figure out the rest and see if it fits. Might work better than the homebrewed Mass Effect game I have been  working on.

I quite like giving wizards a blunderbuss. Or ciphers. Melee weapons I find useless on anything other than a tank.

The party as a whole might not come back. Each character had an epilogue that could ostensibly serve as a conclusion to their story. The PC acquired a secret about the world and potentially acquired a role in it that makes a comeback quite plausible. It's not utterly final like TOB or PS:T.

I will say I think Obsidian made the same mistake as they did with MOTB when it came to how they handled certain topics but this veers into spoiler heavy.

...hmmm... leave me off the list of ME test players.

I just... can't.

Why S/S? It seems to me that a barbarian benefits not from taking but from damage output. Your armour is going to shave off speed so it's your call if you want the 50% penalty.

Melee rogues are a terror with high Dex and Might. Sure, they die to a stiff breeze, but that's why you wait until the tank has engaged the enemy (preferably rendering them prone) then pounce for the kill. They also rip ranged and mage enemies to shreds. In terms of damage output, nothing beats a dual wielding melee rogue, preferably with a rapier in one hand and a saber in the other. You just need to micromanage them heavily.

Yeah my play style is have a bunch of melee guys. Since the game gives you two tanks I figure to take two Barbarians. If I take a small shield I get a deflection of 8 with no accuracy penalty and if I use a spear I get an accuracy bonus plus my armor will be 7 Damage reduction. On my other Barbarian I'm making two-handed with hide armor. I'm still in act I.

Melee only works if you can micromanage melee effectively, but that's all about your skill. I find micromanaging a pair of wizards far easier, and once you hit level 6 or so with two tanks and two wizards you can massacre every encounter in the game short of the adra dragon.

Wizards are easier to contend with, fighters and front line characters I tend to set and forget in these kind of games.

Oh, the ideal party combination is probably 2 tanks and 4 ranged, in terms of micromanagement at least. No denying that, in tough fights melee dps probably isn't worth the bother. But I'm still going to try it.

Aaah I love this game! It's so immersive for me and without spoiling, love how much we can affect our companions' futures. And the companions are really great, so versatile! Eder is adorable with the whole pet thing and party banter is funny overall(him trying to pet Sagani's fox, lol). Agitating Durance, that crazy old priest, to see him sweat is so satisfying. Kana, Aloth, Grieving Mother, that orlan loudmouth.. I liked them all! Combat is fun, reminds me a lot of Dragon Age: Origins and love how many choices are available. This truly felt like a spiritual successor of BG (and reminded me a lot of PS:T too).

tl;dr LOVE IT. More dis please.

I don't mean to say melee DPS isn't good necessarily as much to say that I'm bad at controlling melee DPS. I am sure that others can find a build that works and/or is superior to what I run.

Everyone has different views on classes based on their play style. Or one can recognise the power of classes without necessarily enjoying them (e.g. I find ciphers to be powerful but not perfectly fitting my play style).
