That Adra Dragon does give 2000 something Bestiary experience though

And I was mostly able to take him down so fast because I got that rogue skill where you do 2 times the damage when someone has multiple sneak attack afflictions. So my rogue PC was hitting it for 60 damage a hit after using that other skill (watcher only) that ups your stats :D

Two minoletta's concussive missiles do the job as well, petrify + anything is pretty much an "I win" combination. To be honest, I don't even know what attacks the final boss has, I never gave him time to do anything.

But lets not fool ourselves, infinity engine games were like this as well. I remember the last fight in the icewind dale expansion, super epic music starts and the dragon was dead even before my melee characters could reach it. Unless they add different stages to the boss fights it's bound to happen.

Lol, that Adra Dragon that whooped my ass at level 9 went down in 10 seconds at level 11 (using slow mode even xD)

Gaze of the Adragan: sickeningly overpowered.

Yeah, petrify really seems overpowered considering how long the duration is with high int.

I had no idea. Interesting.

Indeed:

And supposedly, "Edwina" will kill him if you let them talk.

Well the dragon itself has overpowered stats and moves, so it is fair. I tried at level 9 as well, but I wasn't able to keep the dragon paralized long enough, even with three characters trying, I kept missing too much. After hours trying I ended up using petrify traps, lame I know :P

It's a bit of a shame that since there is no combat xp, there is no incentive to try hard fights at lower levels than intended. The temple of Eothas at the start is a good example, you can try it when you get there at level 2 or 3, with 3 party members and it's probably the most complicated thing in the whole game (at least it was for me), or you can go gain a few levels get a full party do it without trouble and get the same reward.

Eh, I'd say it encourages you to go at your own pace.  You're free to jump in at low level if you want a challenge, or go explore and stuff and come back when you're hideously overpowered.  There's no real down side to either.

So........

It kind of looks like Baldur's Gate 1/2, IWD, etc.. I mean... I kind of enjoy that on one hand.. hoping for something fresh and exciting at the same time though.

I personally think Icewind Dale was quite a lot different to BG2 despite them having a similar gui. As far as I can tell it's more on par with BG2 in terms of story and companions than IWD. I'm enjoying it a lot so far, in a way didn't realise how much I have missed that sort of game. Hope the combat stays interesting and somewhat balanced throughout. I do scratch my head at a few of the design decisions they have made in terms of gameplay and stats in particular but I'll reserve judgement until I've played in more.

And I really wish I wouldn't keep getting distracted with trying out other classes. I can't seem to help myself.

To be honest, I think the companions are boring as hell. You get 8 Kaidans and one awesome companion, namely Pallegrina.

Just making conversation.  Seems like Pallegina  has sort of bad stats.  Should you stick with your hireling or make your own paladin at the first town/Gilded Vale?  I'm not moving very fast in the game.

I haven't used Pally much. She is not very effective and there is apparently some sort of problem with NPC pallys that keep them gimped (No participation in conversation means they don't get rep boosts).

So rolling your own NPC paladin probably won't help much and you'd miss out on her quest, which I also haven't done yet.

I abandoned my rogue and created a barbarian named Polychrome. The problem with that is there isn't a prefab companion rogue. So I went ahead and made one named Brosca. :D

You kidding?

Eder is easily the best written character of the bunch. Kana Pua is a fun character, and I liked Aloth a lot (until we get to much later where his schtick fell into cliche territory)

Yeah Eder is an awesome character.  So is Grieving Mother, though in a very different way.

I do think more could have been done with the characters, though.  And I think their personal missions were too short.

She's comparatively gimped but she's the second best meatshield (IMO) of the regular party, and you really do need two meatshields in this game.

No, I'm not kidding.

Especially Eder is a fool. After I finished the game, he decided to fervently worship a dead, fake God.

That's definitely not the epilogue I got.

My personal favourite is Durance, I loved that guy, that scream at the end of his story was priceless. The problem is that I can't find a good reason to travel with him. In general it happens with every companion, I like them all, except Aloth after act 2 I guess, but they aren't really related with the main plot. Other than Kana, I'm not sure why would they want to travel with me. The description Hiravas gives of the Grieving Mother fits them all, they must really love danger. That's why for roleplaying I prefer my custom party.

I like the concept of Durance, but the actual manner of his speech is so unbearably grating that I find it hard to actually get through his fascinating arc.

I told Eder that his brother had probably good reasons to do what he did and in general supported St. Waidwen's actions and got the same ending as Psychevore. And I think it makes sense, dead or alive, creator or not, Ethoas still embodies his ideals.

I have to admit I spent zero time with that Druid and Sagani, and only minimal time with Grieving Mother, as soon after I got Pallegina and instantly mourned there was no romance in this game. Heh.

Sagani and Heravias have rather bland backstories compared to everyone else. I also don't get why Grieving Mother is so well liked...when I first got her I was fascinated by her, but over time I kind of realized there is no point in having a character like this other than to extend the Watcher Abilities. She was like Aloth to me, started to go downhill when it became cliched.

You can get the damn Grieving Mother before Pallegina? Where the hell is that woman?

I didn't fully explore Defiance Bay, hence I got Grieving Mother first.

In a 'normal' playthrough, you'd probably get Pallegina first.

Gonna try out this crazy build for my full custom party run (haven't decided on the custom party members yet, but obviously one is going to be a Fighter)

nxLYp3.jpg

It's also metagaming to the max, in a way. Someone went through the dialogue files and compiled all the checks, so I went for the class/background/race/gender mix with the most checks :P (see here: https://forums.obsid...alogues/page-2)

Unlike the Rogue build I did earlier (PotD, normal companions), this is entirely my own creation. Lets see how it goes.

Oh unlike my previous build, which was also called Angel (Tianshi is Chinese/Mandarin for Angel), but was an aggressive, rather cruel angel, this one is actually going to be rather good. (Nang Fah is Thai for Angel)

I might redo her and switch out perception for resolve, unsure how much I'm going to need my concentration checks. I don't intend on getting hit though, as the 3 con clearly shows :P
