So I got the game a while abck to try something new, as old school RPGs aren't really my thing, and I'm loving it so far, I've made two cahracters, a Chanter and a Chipher, and I think I prefer the Cipher

Another pet peeve I have is the lack of unique weapons and the all around lack of armors. I've barely found and decent armor in this game.
There are some pretty good unique weapons in the late game. My own fighter is making very good use of Tidefall (a Superb greatsword with a damage over time effect and a health leech)
Armors, yeah not a whole lot of really good unique ones.

Oh, they have. It's especially hilarious to see these kinds of posts:
'I'm on my 4th playthrough, and these things really bother me
*massive list*'.
as someone who is genuinely unenthusiastic about it, I can say I still haven't made it to isle of the dead yet, and I've only put in a few hour a week. Don't be fooled by the hundreds of hours steam says I've played it, 90% of it were minimized. Same thing for the dragon ages.
Maybe I'm just not patient for RPGs like I used to be.

Ah, Raedric took me three tries to beat him. I had to resort to my usual cheap tricks by luring all of his minions out and killing them by threes.

This game is so intellectually dishonest I'm trying to forget everything about it. The spiritual and inspirational mediocrity of both world, story and narration, the nasty bugs at the start (thanks Obsidian), the unbalanced classes and combat system. I wish I paid half the price for this digital agglomerate.

My only fault was to be too much hyped.
I'm reading the review, and it's reminding me that taste of ash I had in my mouth when I finished the game.

What do you mean by "intellectually" dishonest? I've only ever seen the phrase used to critice people for e.g. setting up loaded hypotheticals to push their own POV or say ignoring evidence to make what argument they want to make.
I can sort of see how the first definition applies a bit to Obsidian as a company (they love loaded scenarios to make an intellectual point). I just don't quite follow what you have in mind.

I had made a whole post in Italian, I haven't got the will to translate it all.
Whoever made the game put a dastardly approach to philosophy and religion, thinking they could make people wonder about their minds, the universe, the marvel that is in our brain and soul, whilst is instead a recollection of philosophical gimmicks (taken by skepticism, relativism and gnosticism) that any sane person would want to be long dead, all put together without any real motivation or cause.
This is a radical sum
What is the soul? Attempted exposition, the answer is: who knows?
What are gods? Exposition, then: who knows?
Are soul and gods a true thing or not?

Finished it. I found the gameplay was good, but wasted on this game. The combat encounters had so much filler and were so simple they may as well have been randomly generated by the computer. I liked the high level bounties, the final boss, the dragons because they were a challenge. What I don't like is managing a dozen different per use abilities on trash mobs that hardly ever require such micromanagement. Because of this I breezed through most of the game with eder taking up all the attention while everyone else just pointed and shot them. rest, rinse repeat.
So in summary, too much waste management disposal, not enough bosses, or unique abilities.
Story was okay I guess, but I feel lucky anytime a story writer who isn't an idiot comes into gaming so it's not really high praise is it.

What happened to Pillars, it just dissapeared, sort of. I haven't played it in a while because life. But i haven't really heard much about it either. So are people still playing? Is the community alive?

I'm playing right now, just finished most of the quests at least currently available in Defiance Bay except Heritage Hill. Currently exploring the Endless Paths, will probably keep going down until things get difficult, a couple floors have been really easy now since I'm overleveled for them after neglecting this place for some time. After that I'm heading over to Ondra's Gift and hope I can still pick up Pallegina, since I completely missed her and thought she vanished after completing the quest after which she's recruitable. Then we head east towards Dyrford Village.

I thought uniques were a bit of a sham so I didn't care much. The most unique thing I found was a bow that could sometimes electricute mobs of enemies, and a light armor which enhanced an ability a little bit higher than I could have done through crafting. I'd have paid attention to upgrades if I found myself in a tough spot, and like most RPGs pillars only seems difficult until you learn the game, so go ahead and upgrade if you have problems.

Is it a good idea to upgrade unique weapons early on?
Never hurts to throw a Lash onto a weapon that doesn't have one (Burning Lash, Corrosive Lash, etc)
