Got to love metacritic (sarcasm); 340+ first day votes from so-called Players. How any justify that site as statistical evidence seems to border on fiction.

That said, hope PoE continues to receive positive reviews from both professionals and real players. Congrats!

Good point. Just got through downloading it myself, but be sure to bring that up next time someone cites DA:I's metacritic rating versus PoE.  :P

Edit: Hmm, if there was a beta, that might make the opinions more valid. Semi-ignore the above post.

I'm being overwhelmed by the CC options. Who should I be? Decisions, decisions!

Yeah, me too. My problem is I've got too many options I like from playing the beta. Do I go with a crowd control focused frontline cipher? Do I make a single target damage dealing fighter? Maybe a stock standard priest? Maybe a tank-y ranger? A monk?

Aaaaaargh.

At some point I just forced myself to pick something.

Only really annoying thing so far is that I 'cage cursor' function doesn't seem to work very well. (this cages the cursor to a single monitor). Turning it off and on again works though. But it's still annoying :P

That's an issue that cropped up in the beta. The devs definitely know about it so hopefully they can come up with a fix.

At this point I'm leaning towards going ranger for my first character since that's always been the way I went in BG and such. Still completely undecided what race I'm going to go for though. @_@ It sounds like I'm going to find myself potentially staring at the CC for far too long.

Sweet! It has pagers and slap bands?!

Not sure about those, but of course the official soundtrack ...

Game is incredible so far. Absolutely worth the hundreds I put in to back it. This is basically the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate that Dragon Age should have been.

Really great so far. Playing as an elven Cipher, and while my character is made of papier maché, he hits hard and the CC is real. Some optional fights have been kicking my ass, I'll just come back later however.

Everything is good. The writing is stellar (as is usual for Obsidian), the game's pretty, the combat has an Infinity Engine feel without being similarily obscure and tedious, it has loads and loads of text and description, and just oozes personality in general. Bioware makes good games, but hot damn Pillars is so far a serious contender for best RPG since Dragon Age: Origins. We'll see if that impression holds up.

To the question, should I buy it? The answer is a resolute, confident, absolute yes.

I'm split between an elf and godlike. Then I also have to choose a class (probably monk).

Played for a few hours as an Elven ranger with a wolf companion. Game feels great, though there are minor nuisances.

Like how it's painfully obvious if someone is an optional companion or not when you meet them. Couldn't they just hide the portrait until the offer to join or until they joined you? I realize this is nitpicking though.

And my personal pet peeve since NBA2K15: the absence of an option to pick which monitor to play the game on. So far NBA2K15 is the only game that I recall that has given me this option. Which is hilarious, because it doesn't get more console than that. Sure, you still have control over it in windows itself by picking a different primary screen, but still, since I know the option is there to do it... meh :P

Can't see anything when fighting behind big walls or trees is a bit annoying. But other than that I am enjoying the game so far.

Anyone been able to make adventurers useful yet? I got a few and they are under performing compared to story/preset companions.

Only a few hours in. And it's great - true successor to BG is the right phrase.

What class/race did you choose?

(Nature) Godlike Wizard. Like it so far. May switch to rogue just for the sneaky, but I like the Magic system - nice mix of Vancian and cooldowns.

Made a Wood Elf Ranger as my first character. About 4 hours in now and i do like the game so far. It is gorgeous to say the least, extremely nice lighting effects. I like most of the gameplay elements, the endurance and hp thing is abit distracting? Confusing maybe. Other than that it has a good feel to it.

Wood elf fighter.  Only a few hours in but really liking it.  Definitely reminiscent of Baldur's Gate games' better aspects. Picked a pretty standard class and background since I'm not really up on the lore yet.  But my next go-around (and I'm sure there will be more) will be more exotic.  I can already see how a cipher could make for a very different experience.

Hoo boy, I've not been keeping up with the class updates and everything sounds so good (even the classes that I would normally never think to play, like Druid).

I wound up going with my old standby of Ranger, but Cipher was very tempting, and the Chanter's spell names got my interested, and the magic system for Wizards sound neat, and I like their take on a Paladin, and ... and ...

Seconded. Haven't had this much fun playing an RPG since BG and Mask of the betrayer.

My god!

I always go wizard but I didn't like their weapon sets. I would rather have staffs but it is no problem. Anyway, i felt bored playing a quick witted mercenary wizard and switched to a godlike colonist stoic monk. All I have to say is jesus christ this implementation of the monk class is terrific to me. That wound system just added more to the character. I love it so much

I'm gonna wait for some extra npc mods before diving in. I regretted jumping into Divinity too early.

Oh yeah, I backed this huh.

Looks like I got a steal compared to the full retail price (yeah I backed the minimum amount).

I see it has shape shifting and summoning, so it must be installed immediately.

I hope my PC can take this 18 gig? installation.
