I FINALLY got the Turian Cabal, and the first thing I noticed is that it has 3 VERY distinct combat style paths.. What should I aim for, powers, weapons, or melee?

I've got the same question. So far I play her like Human Soldier - in the sense that I use Biotic Focus (with shield restoration evolution) to keep me alive, same as Adrenaline Rush. Unlike Human Soldier, though, her damage output is underwhelming at best. I've tried adding rank 6 Nightshade Blades, on paper they do 1400-1800 damage, but it doesn't seem to work as advertised. The blades barely do any noticeable damage at all and are only good for staggering Phantoms and other footsoldiers charging you.

Go full weapon build, you don't want to Poison Strike into Oblivion when playing off-host.

Biotic Shield is a must, you can activate it while shooting ramp-up guns like the PPR/Typhoon and not break up charged shots, you can also use it for reload cancel.

My build for Platinum: http://kalence.drupa...24Z51314!.989G5

But if you really like Poison Strike, this should come in handy for playing on host:

Edit: fixed the 2nd link.

All 3 styles are viable.

My build at the moment: *click*

The blades are for emergency "oh sh!t" moments, Poison strike is for quick movement in and out of combat. Biotic focus for barrier recharge and DR.

This build has a good survivability, but it's mostly the soldier route.

If you want something different and more fun, you should definitely try Poison Strike (detonates Ammo and biotic explosions) or melee style.

That's more or less what I tried. My conclusion: Human Soldier does all the same, but much better. Why play Cabal and deal medoicre DPM, when you can play Hsol and deal awesome DPM?

Having just dusted my cabal for a couple of games yesterday, I can say she's far more mobile than Hsol can ever be. In my(admittedly very limited) experience, she just may be the most mobile of all characters. She can get herself surrounded on all sides and escape, without using the missile. And her damage is nothing to sneeze at either.

I know. Things can't kill if they're dead. And there's always that "playing off the host vanguard" thing. Despite that, she's a very different character than Hsol and if you're trying to play her like one, yeah... I can see why you'd think she's underwhelming.

Think about her like this. When you're playing cabal, it's like a game of pinball. Only in this case, you're the ball and you're controlling the game. This is true for all vanguards, to an extent, but I think it's especially true for cabal.

You may be right in terms of DPS.

For me playing the cabal involves awesome mobility through dodge and poison strike. You can cross big maps in no time and you are survivable.

It's more the feeling for the unique character.

If you want to do something different than HSol - spec for Poison Strike or melee. Unfortunately I'm no expert here, thus can't give advice here.

My build was just an allround suggestion which fit my requirements. And does not suck completely if off-host :).

I just don't see the point of mobility if it doesn't enable you to complete waves faster, or at least easier.

I'm not trying to be too sarcastic here, but I believe that if character has an unique feel to him/her, that alone makes them worth playing. Cabal's shtick is her mobility. She requires different playstyle than most other characters.

It may not be to your taste. But that doesn't make her a bad character.

As for mobility... give me mobility over sheer toughness any day. And this is coming from somebody who actually likes playing juggernaut.

Can't argue with that. If you like the character and it doesn't utterly suck - by all means! I was just hoping that she can be very effective, that there is a trick to playing her. But so far it doesn't seem there is any.

Once again, not trying to rib you off... at least, not anymore than myself :P

But I've found out it's usually not the kit that sucks, but the player :)

No explosive baldes no bang. You are missing out a lot not maxing out blades and not bringing grenade gear. Kinda playing the demolisher without grenades. Also you have too much fitness, 4 is more then enough. Modified build:

http://kalence.drupa...!33O51313!598A5

Note that blades deal 2100 upfront damage  + 720 poison damage over 8 secs, not something you want to ignore.

The alternative is to go for pure damage on blades, which deals 2640 upfront damage  + 960 poison damage over 8 secs.

I suggest exploding ones though because it very good CC.

It does. Ask a Drell. Also:

Spawn on the other side of the reactor? Poison Strike, attack.

Clip empty in the basement of glacier? Poison Strike, dodge, refill.

Teammate downed by the mob now rushing towards you? Poison Strike through all of them, revive, attack.

Banshee teleporting next to your cover in the corner? Teleporting away through the banshee.

Device in the opposite building on Giant? Dodge, Poison Strike, Dodge, start the device.

Again, for me it's not only min/maxing the DPS of a character.

Without Hamsters, how do you plan on getting power for the airlock? Exactly.

This cabal in-depth done by megabeast might give you some ideas as far as play styles with builds and guns to complement them... It's a really great guide for cabal beginners

Blade Spam and Talon shots to the head. She's pretty tough and mobile.

As far as the blades not doing damage they're like Ballistic Blades, the damage is a product of the distance from the enemy. You see significant damage dropoff at the end of their effective range. Explosive blades however give you all of the listed damage.

Usually... There are no bad characters, but you can definitely make a bad kit that will suck no matter how you try playing it (all those TGI pubbies with sniper rifles and no equipment AT ALL...).
