Ive heard mixed things about stolen throne. Some people say its good while others say it tries to shove in to many events in a relatively short book (basically the entire maric/loghain rebellion against orlais if ive heard it correctly).
Are they worth checking out? Which ones in particular is worth buying?

I liked all of them. Asunder and The Masked Empire are my favourites, and they have the strongest connection to Inquisition. (You get a lot more backstory on Cole in Asunder, and on Celene, Briala and Gaspard in The Masked Empire.)

I think they're all worth reading. My favorites are The Stolen Throne and Last Flight.

Ehhhhh........ *makes wavey hand sign to signify it's all MEH*
The Stolen Throne is pretty bad to me and I can't really suffer reading it for too long (it skips over most of the rebellion too, and is written in a way that shows Gaider didn't really know how to write a war that well). The Calling is okay, and Asunder's pretty good IIRC. Haven't read TME or TLF.

They are very good and I'd definitely recommend them. I liked Asunder best (first one I read). Asunder and Masked Empire are more relevant to DAI, while The Stolen Throne and the Calling tell of events long before Origins.

I think they're good if you like the lore, so if you read in game codices, this is just another way to get the full scope of the world. Not necessary to read but more the merrier, right?

I would suggest reading The Calling. It features a young Duncan and you learn more about the Architect.

I've only read The Calling, but I really liked it. The side characters were the best in that one. Young Duncan, Young Fiona, Young Maric, and bunch of cool ass Wardens.

The Masked Empire and Asunder were especially good.

Asunder was my favorite. Next would be The Stolen Throne.
I started The Masked Empire, but it wasn't my cup of tea. Too much Orlesian. ![]()
I also really enjoyed Dawn of the Seeker.

Asunder was my favorite for bringing Wynne's story full circle. I thought it was a good resolution, and the book introduced us to Cole. Wynne was my rabbi in Origins, she was the only character who consistently checked in on my to see how I was doing, how I was holding up under the pressure. Yeah, she was a little preachy, but I needed a "mom" figure, especially when I was playing a human noble and missing my own mother so much. I was glad that David gave her a heroine's conclusion.
P.S. The Dawn of the Seeker DVD was good too!

I liked them, Asunder especially. Stolen Throne wasn't quite my thing but it was still fascinating because it developed the world further. If you like the lore and the world then I'd recommend them definitely. And they're dead cheap if you get them on kindle...

I haven't read Last Flight yet, but I have read others. I'd actually recommend all of them and in order ^^ My favorite is the Calling, but I like all others too, the Masked Empire maybe least from what I have read though since it doesn't have that likeable characters, well in my opinion.

Last Flight is the best. It's got griffons in it, what more do you want? Also it sets up Inquisition and something I hope we see soon in DLC.

Asunder, the third one, doesn't have as strong characters overall, though Shale makes a surprisingly lot out of her relatively minor role. The most interesting and well-written character, I thought, was Cole, who manages to pretty three-dimensional and do well at keeping sympathy while being a, well, you know. Since Inquisition is already out and Cole's basic character is already known, it does upset some of the mystery of Cole's character, but hey. The book does come out very strongly on the side of the mages, however.
All three of Gaider's have this trouble of a, in my view admittedly, poorly written romantic subplot that feels a bit tacked on, which is probably worst in Asunder.
