Now the patch that is going round has closed 'The RoomTM' leading to zone 5, what tactics will you now use in zone 5?

I am not proposing a discussion on the merits of the change or the patch, which are being discussed in other threads.

  • Are you just going to try to hold wherever the flag is planted?
  • Is there a benefit in rotating around the map?
  • Are there other chokepoints on particular maps that would work?

Multiple Rooms / Chokepoints exist for the campers

There's lots of benefit doing a running battle across the map, especially leading the boss away. If the team is competent enough to take out enemy ranged targets and/or take cover from them, this is an especially useful tactic.

Really, font room farming is a bit of a shame. Useful place, but there's so much more map to use.

There are a couple of rooms in the Orlesian Chateau that could become the new 'Box of ShameTM:)

I always preferred a few places on the maps to the font room, but never used them unless soloing really. Pugs never seem to understand the tactical value of controlling the flow of battle via chokepoints - half of them can't even get the font room tactics down properly.

There's a lovely spot in orlesian chateaux that is in the far left corner for example.

This will hurt me quite a bit because the room made it insanely easy for PUGs to coordinate.

Anything else will cause issues. The run n gun can work with a communicative team. The problem with any of the non-font rooms is that they all have two entrances and so you have coordinate who is guarding each Chokepoint.

I expect that where the flag gets planted is where the stand will be made for PUGs because trying to move to a "better" room will require coordination that likely won't exist.

It seemed like the "run in a big circle" tactic worked about as well as the room many times anyway.

Couldnt care about camping because I rareky do it but I am concerned about not being able to use the health font strategically. With this change you either use it at the start of zone 5 or dont use it at all

I think the one time a pug didn't activate the font automatically before the boss, we all forgot to use it and died anyway..

My alternate tactic is that I will no longer play rogues on threatening until I get some proper gear.

I personally didn't really stay in the Room in the first place...

I've always pretty much played solo (unless with friends) even in a full lobby. I just go in circles around the map and take things out at I run into them (or spin and longshot with archer). But **** the DC on Orlesian Chateau with a melee character. That is all.

I am thinking, since they changed things up, the font should be moved out to the open area as well.  That way the team can save/use it still.

Rogues should roam the map, picking off targets, anyhow.  You're at your weakest camping with a rogue.  Use your stealth, agro-reduction, and flanking bonuses to their advantage.

Yeah, the middle of the map in zone 5.  Or, perhap less exciting, near the flag plant location.

I tried a few alternative chokepoints.

There are rooms in the Orlesian Chateau maps, but as they are smaller than the font room,

if a commander gets in there you are in even bigger trouble !

Circling the map seems most logical to avoid getting swamped,

but getting pugs to do it...

Yeah. Don't play with pugs. The success rate has been cut in half with this patch.

Find a spot with only one or two directions enemies can come at the team. Over the next weeks people will be trying to find out the best cubbyholes.

If relying upon archer longshot spam, stay in a location where ranged enemies will come up around the corner FAR frm the team.

If not relying upon archer longshot spam, stay in a location where ranged enemies will come up around the corner NEAR the team.

Stick together, if a teammate can barrier, try to stay within range of barrier.

Either focus down the boss fast or have someone kiting/fighting him while the rest of the team farm more spawning enemies. If vs. Red Templar kiting, keep him in phase 1 during the kiting period by not lowering his hp below 80% so that he doesn't use any special abilities.

@Bioware: Good job. Played several games with top 100 leaderboard players and sometimes we were going down like flies.

I only play with pugs and this change has improved the game in my opinion.

Some leaning will (more or less) quickly take place among pugs along the lines Veramis has nicely outlined.
