Eh, there's nothing wrong with bringing back  content that ended up on the cutting room floor to be fixed up and released as DLC.  I mean, heck there are parts of the Citadel DLC that content cut from teh main game (like Joker's story at the bar)

What is important is incorporating how people responded to the vanilla game and using that to further polish and improve the dlc.  From the sounds of things, I'm not sure that happened here.

I did not say anything was wrong with bringing back cut content. I said extra content is always welcome.

To me, the most messed up thing about this is that they're asking for $15 for  content that was not improved upon, even after receiving feedback on their 'vanilla' game.

Actually... how do you start the damn thing? I've downloaded the DLC, installed it, but there's no new quest, war table mission, prompt or anything I can find to actually find the new area and begin exploring it :( Tried it with a few of my characters - just... nothing.

It's on the War Table. I know, it's like Where's Waldo, but with the DLC. You just have to look harder to find it.

Yeah, there are some tier4 armor recipes :D they are quite cool, but don't get hyped about the look, cause it's very similar to the t3 ones :P but hey, better stats!

I had to visit war table once then leave before the mission showed up, though I don't know if that's a requirement or just the way it happened. Fade rifts drop a lot of loot on the new map.

The region reminds me a lot of the area during the Well of Sorrows quests. It's absolutely beautiful. I love the canyons and I love the spiral wooden steps leading up to the camp sites. The new enemies are very challenging as well. I went in with my Nightmare character figuring it would be challenging, but I've had to reload several things because of those damned Hakkon Spy things coming up and one-shotting me.

But yeah, it's more of the exploration of Inquisition and less story. I'm three hours in and I've only had the first cut-scene with Harding because I've been busy just exploring the area. So I haven't finished. But I'm hoping there will be more to it.

The lore has the potential to be interesting. I'll have to finish it before deciding for sure if I feel like it was worth the $15.

Considering one of the biggest criticisms about Inquisition was that there were too many large areas with not enough cinematic story connected to them, I find it interesting that this was their first release though.

Well, I feel like I'm in the minority here but I loved it.  Haven't finished with the zone yet but did the main story.  As I was first going through it, I was kinda wondering how it all tied to Inquisition.  Felt a little out of place at first but then it ties together pretty nicely at the end.  Specifically in the Old Temple and after the final boss fight when you chat with Harding(!).  The lore was really good, helps flesh out more of the world including the past.  I especially liked the implications about the Elves and Ameridan's influence.

Overall, I recommend it.  Fun fights, good story, good loot, loved the banter between companions and am really looking forward to more DLC in the future.

Put me down in the fanboy camp but more Thedas ain't a bad thing.  The price, maybe.  $9.99 seems to a better deal, IMO.  But I'll be buying future DLC regardless of price tag because I love the world.

To each their own, I suppose.  Just wanted to add a little positivity to this thread.  Thanks BW for a good ol' fashioned romp.

I wouldn't say it is fully out.  It is a partial release since only the Xbox 1 and PC have it.  IMO it is just flat out rude even if costs $15.   It is like only half of a class was invited to party and the rest weren't included.    Come on EA/Bioware how would you like it if your siblings were invited to relatives house for a holiday dinner and you knew about and you weren't included  and it was your favorite aunt and uncle.

I've only paid around 10$ in Origin Mexico.

Story > exploration

I'm glad I didn't plop down any money on this DLC. It sounds like it just more of the Skyrimization of Dragon Age, which I could do without. I'm not a fan of the TES games and the parts of DA:I that were most obviously influenced by Skyrim's success, also tend to be the parts that interest me the least. Beautiful maps to explore are great, but only so much as the amount of interesting content the devs are able to fill them with.

The appeal of Bioware games for me was that the characters that populate the game world were always the primary focus, rather than the world itself. With DA:I it almost feels at times more like a Bethesda game, where those priorities are reversed.

Hopefully the next DLC will be more story or character focused than yet more open world busy work. As of right now I'm starting to lose interest in DA sequel at all, and if this focus on open world exploration above all becomes a trend I'll be concerned about the future of the next Mass Effect game as well.

While there is certainly a lot of exploration here, there is a lot of story tying it together.  Honestly, I am finding this DLC to be superior to any of the DA:O DLC, and probably better than Legacy as well.

There is definitely story to be had in this DLC, I haven't encountered a cutscene outside of the zone entry one yet but then again I'm not too far into the DLC's story just yet; I've spent an excessive amount of time exploring.

The story thus far is interesting in my opinion and deals a lot with the lore of the original Inquisition; there are tier 4 schematics and a lot of level 21-24 legendary weapons/accessories (I found a lot of them by closing the rifts across the Frostback Basin) and there is an ancient Inquisitor's set of armor which has an entirely new model; not sure if theres a schematic for that one yet.

Theres also the new Inquisitor skill that allows the player to conjure a fade-shield (projectile blocking immobile dome) that can be upgraded in the skill tree. The enemies in this DLC are quite powerful, I'm playing on Hard (as a knight-enchanter of course) and there have been some great battles.

Played it, beat it, streamed it, Bryan Johnson of Bioware stopped by the stream and stayed for a few hours giving advice and chatting. Good times.

My opinion at the end of it all-

Was fun if you enjoyed Inquisition, though don't expect any experimenting. Was more of what existed before, but with an avvar twist. With a $15 price tag, I think I would've rather paid $10. Still, I got about 12 hours of game time out of it so not bad. Wouldn't call it fantastic, wouldn't call it terrible. Its somewhere in the middle of mediocre and fun, depending on your opinion of the main game. If you're like me, you beat Inquisition months ago and haven't touched it since, nor have you spent ages talking about it making the new content a refresher and reminder of the fun you had late last year.

I think people should buy it, though whether or not you wait for a sale is up to you.

I wasn't as disappointed in this DLC as I had assumed I would  be from the trailer.

Nothing jaw-droppingly spectacular about it, but after a bit I actually got interested in the  tevinter/inquisition/avvar themes.

My biggest complaint has to be that it feels like Bioware is rehashing most of the old formular and not taking in enough of the feedback of the main game.

- Enviroment is pretty but not extremely engaging at first. I enjoyed the coast more than the forested area.

- Companions have banter but it's still too far between for me, and they only take part minimally in the quests.

- Cutscenes are almost non-existent as per usual. I liked that they existed in Origins and 2.

Some good things.

Some bad things.

Verdict:

Not worth 15$ unless you are a diehard fan like me. I don't regret my purchase but I can't really say that I'd recommend  it  either.

I think I will buy this in a while when my current character reaches the appropriate level. Doesn't feel right to chip in before I can use it.

Haven't played it myself (PS4) but to address those saying they haven't taken feedback into account:

This DLC would have had to enter development pretty quickly after release. I'm guessing their ability to take feedback into account was limited, but they did respond to it. Apparently JoH represents Bioware's attempt to add a plot focused area's word count (Like Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts or meeting the Templars at Therinfal) to the word count and exploration of a secondary exploration area (Like Emerald Graves or Hissing Wastes). The problem, I gather, is that spreading that over such a large area keeps it from feeling very substantial.

I don't mind exploration, but I would prefer more story focus in new releases.

I'm having this too. I tried everything, coming back and forth from the war table, reloading saves with multiple characters, going back and forth from offline to online in Origins and still nothing. No journal tracker, no war table mission, NOTHING. Have I just been... ripped off?

I'm tending to the same opinion as well, definitely enjoying the DLC a lot more than I initially thought I would (am maybe 20-30% into the DLC at the moment, even after playing it all night lol).

That new ability Aegis of the Rift is proving to be damn good power to have (though it now makes me a little disappointed that there aren't any other Rift abilities like this in the vanilla game) and there is a ton of new Masterwork schematics for armor and weapons, on top of the new Legendary gear gained from doing quests/closing rifts. Not sure if the enemies are scaling with my level or not, but geezus, they are stupidly tough to defeat.

The war table mission will be in the lower left corner of the Ferelden map.

Hi KillTheLastRomantic,

As one of the writers on the DLC, I wanted to say Jaws of Hakkon was created entirely after the team finished making Dragon Age: Inquisition. People can like it or not (I hope they do!) but I wanted to clear that misconception.

Thanks,

SylvF

(Also I don't normally post here - I worry about inadvertently derailing discussions - so this will probably be my only post on the matter.)

I'll translate this post:

"We did not screw you guys out of 15 bucks. Also, I am scared of the Bioware Forums so that is all I have to say, goodbye"

Yes, as I've seen in guides and sites covering the DLC. But not in any of my saves sadly :\

Heheh. Because that's what we needed. I can't already solo high dragons in my tier3 stuff.

We need more designs! More models! Or even just open up the MP models for us to use in SP. It's not hard! Variety is key!

Appreciate you coming here and speaking with us, however brief, but... It took them 4 months to come up with... this?

Uh-huh...  :(

Um...I heard the same whining for DA2s DLC and ME3s.  You guys are a joke.

Granted you have the right to dislike it but please don't speak for everyone because some of us DID. Man some of you on these forums are so selfish

And Playstation 4 players have to relay on honest reviews of the dlc that are non-spoiler for the hope that the story in it is worthwhile lol.

But i keep hearing it is lackluster dlc and probably the only dlc that is timed exclusive and in that case that is good for when the more meaty dlc release.

Le me guess, still had that 3 + enemies rehash + dogs and bears? And giant humans?

I just can´t buy anything anymore involving those hack´n slash rainbow colored mmo battles. It is just too much.
