They used to support it. They released the toolkit for Origins so modders could make more and better mods.

I want to emphasize this. BioWare used to openly support and accommodate modding. Now that EA has a problem with modding BioWare no longer supports it. Nothing to do with art or creative vision, just EA's misguided and nonsensical policy.

Has BioWare communicated their explicit position on modding?

It is unsupported.

You do so at your own risk, and any problems you encounter are your own responsibility.

That's not how I read that. I read that they support Mods and Modders, but they cannot base their decisions on the mods that will be affected. Not a personal decision, but a business one, and I understand where they're coming from in that respect.

That's something that has to be dealt with on a case by case basis. Most mods have nothing to with whitewashing so to say all mods shouldn't exist because some of them might have been made with malice or ignorance is absolutely absurd.

I agree with that standpoint and wasn't implying that these methods that are available should be used to censor modding. In fact I'm strongly against it, reinforced by the fact that I bought the ME trilogy and DA games for the PC despite already owning it for the 360 solely because it had modding capabilities.

I was simply pointing out that these methods exist and, occasionally, can be (ab)used by the creator of a product. Often to the disgust of customers, see TotalBiscuit's issue with Day One: Gary's Incident and Jim Sterling's issue with The Slaughter Grounds, as well as a couple of other moments where publishers/producers called copyright claims for negative feedback/reviews.

Minor edit: However I disagree with sharing abusive/white washing mods, but that's just that; an opinion.

I really liked this DLC.. hopefully all future DLC follows and only improves upon it. It reminded me so much of the Dragonborn DLC released for Skyrim.

Their explicit, official position on modding is that they (passively) support it. As in, 'Oh we like mods a lot! Even for our games!'.

They don't actively support (active support would mean actually doing something for it) or affirm it anymore though. They let people do what they do, without a fuss. But they don't make a game in a way to help people mod, and they certainly don't create modding tools.

I think that's a mistake, but there you go.

Agreed, 100%. Modders can give your game life well beyond it's natural span, as well as add features to a game that perhaps were missed by the Devs(Respec Mod for DA:O anyone?). The best is when Devs then take ideas from Mods and Modders, and then implement them into the game officially!

...you only want DLC like this? You don't want any loose threads dealt with or more character development?

I hope not. I enjoyed this DLC, but it's really only good as what I'd call "Filler DLC". It's good for what it is, but if that's ALL that Bioware puts out, then that's a problem.

Hey, so I blazed through this DLC, but I'm stuck in the old temple looking for the key in the first room where you can die from the cold.  Halp?

so why do you care what people do to their own game? It doesn't affect you, don't like the mod, don't use it.

Well, if you insist on modding a game when the developer doesn't want you to mod it, don't complain when the update breaks the mods.

To be fair, the Devs don't want you to NOT mod the game. They simply will not consider the effect their patches/DLCs have on the current mods, which is an understandable position to take.

After you talk to the Avar next to the arena, you make the offering at your requisitions table.  From there the arena quest should open.

Thank you.

Was looking at the war table. Not thought on that one. But a missing quest marker is a bug though.

Just finished the DLC, and I think they did achieve their stated goals of tying in better story with the large exploration zones.  I never totally completed any of the exploration zones  in vanilla DA:I.  Past a certain point, I just stopped caring.

But this DLC was better designed than the earlier exploration zones, and finding things wasn't nearly as much of a chore.  I actually completed the whole thing, and it never felt like a drag the way the Hinterlands did.  I loved the Avvar and their lore, and the main zone story was interesting and touching, if not particularly complex.  I do think the whole thing would've been helped by more cutscenes and dialogue.  And I don't think I ever got any new companion banter either, though I've been hit with the banter bug.

If future exploration zones are like the Frostback Basin, I'm 100% down.  Certainly a huge improvement over, say, Emprise du Lion or the Hissing Wastes.  If this is how they're implementing exploration DLC, I'm curious to see how they'll do story DLC.

8.5/10  :)

Has anyone found new weapon schematics? What about the new armor? What does it look like? All I found was Tier 4 armor at the rifts that look like the regular mail armor for all classes. I did only find 1 tier 4 shield schematic and that is all I found. I am about half way through it. But I am stuck at how to open the Barrier with the levers. I do love the new ability and has come very useful. :D

Am quoting myself from another thread on this subject, as it should answer your question:

Also for those curious.... Yes, you can actually find Masterwork Schematics for the same armor that belonged to Inquisitor Ameridan ("Vestments/Armor/Plate Mail of the Dragon Hunter") - they are Tier 4 armors schematics and are capable of having the highest defense of any armor currently in the game (though the armor doesn't have any modification slots for armor pieces, unfortunately).

To receive the schematics, you have to complete a war table operation called "Assuage Ameridan's Heirs", which is received after completing the main quest "Ameridan's End" and then talking to Professor Kenric at your main base camp and tell him the "truth" about Inquisitor Amerdan.

You can also find the Masterwork Schematics for the unique Tier 4 Hakkon weapons - Hakkon's Honor (1-handed sword), Valor (2-handed sword), Wisdom (staff), and Mercy (dagger) - during the "Ameridan's End" mission as well, though it requires a little bit of searching (and Veilfire....); like the armor schematics, the weapons are capable of the highest damage in the game, but lack any weapon modification slots, save for a rune slot.

Also, the Hakkon weapons have a really unique sound to them when they're being used.... almost sounds similar to a lightsaber from Star Wars, lol.   :P

EDIT: And some screenshots of my crafted and tinted Armor of the Dragon Hunter (for Rogue):

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but after you clear the arena at Stone-Bear Hold, you can go in again and fight what seems like countless waves of enemies (maybe 10? I didn't count). One of the waves I actually fought a pack of nugs, which I kind of felt bad and was surprised Dorian didn't say anything. The last wave consisted of two lurkers for me. Every wave other than those two were just Avvar mobs. Anyway, I couldn't leave the arena at all and thought I was locked-in indefinitely, but I stuck with it. At the end, I got a unique Hakkon weapon (forgot which one) and a valuable.

How does it remind you of Dragonborn, per chance? I played both but I never got that comparison.

Quoting this because I agree completely. If the exploration and maps had been handled like this in the main game there would probably be a lot less whining and upset here on the forums. I didn't mind the maps in DAI, but somehow JoH really tightened the whole experience without making it feel constricted or overly linear. I wouldn't want this to replace the story-heavy plots and character interaction we've come to expect, but I could easily get behind the exploration side of things following what they did in the DLC. I found it to be seriously fun and interesting, though I did wish for more companion content. Can't have it all, but this is a good step.

Can't wait to see what's up next. :)

Oh, yeah, I want to know if you ever got Hakkon's loot? Turns out he does drop something. A 162 dps/84 electricity damage staff, an extra tonics belt, and one other thing. Honestly, I don't think the loot was that good, considering him being the final boss and all, but just curious if you went back to find it.

Nah, never saw the loot drop of Hakkon. So whatever drops you can get from it I missed. I'm fine with it though. There will be better stuff in whatever the next story DLC Bioware releases for Inquisition.

My first thought was to go out and buy an Xbox One (we have the 360) so I could play it.  What I heard about it looked really great and like we might get an answer or two.  However after reading through it here on the forums it seems like that's just not the case.  If it resolved some things, really added to the story, or answered a couple lingering questions or two it might have been worth it.  As it stands I can't justify buying an Xbox One and spending $15.  Guess I'll be waiting to see if it comes out on the 360 or just wait a year or two.
