Sony have nothing to do with this deal. It's not exclusive for EA Access.

Yet EA is going to use access to offer discounts to players for the dlc. so its involved regardless.

And got to keep in mind Sony more or less has its own service model with Playstation now over access. so the reason behind the timed exclusive deal for microsoft and EA in all likelihood stems from that to begin with.

But that is all politics and business. microsoft doesn't mind having more service apps on its menu while sony does, I don't fault them for the business decision, but I do blame them for the cause.

I normally would of bought this dlc on day one. Now I will never buy this DLC. It's one thing to have a exclusive or timed exclusive of a full game but to release the game to everyone then release content only for selected consoles. That's just plain wrong, I won't support any company that does that. I already don't buy EA products and Bioware's exception to that rule has just expired.

Apparently this "Premiere Content" consists solely of the first single player DLC for Inquisition and so assuming there is a second single-player DLC released it will do so at the same time for PS4 and Xbox One.  It is interesting that at the time of the announcement they said "Xbox One and Xbox 360" with no mention of the PC and now we have zero indication as to when the Xbox 360 will get it.

My guess is that EA/Bioware will bundle the first and second DLC together and release them on the same day for PS4 at a somewhat discounted price as a way of trying to make amends with that market.  Afterall they did sell 2x more copies on the Playstation so pissing off those customers would be really a dumb move.  I'm sure they have already lost some sales from people who will just turn their nose up at the notion of timed DLC or who will be unable to avoid spoilers and not bother with the content once it is all ruined.

My problem is not having a release date. I'd like to know how much time I have to stay away from the internet to avoid spoilers. And knowing for when I have to have the money to buy the DLC.  -_-

I care little about having to wait, I already knew it. (and I find it stupid) but having a release date should be the least respectful thing to give for all the costumers that have paid the same than PC and XboxOne.

The lack of release date is why I think they will bundle this with the second piece of DLC which they don't actually have a date for since it is in development.  Additionally if I were Bioware and had planned any sort of post-story DLC expansions prior to release and then saw the sales number differentials I would have developed a piece of parallel-content DLC that consisted of a new entirely optional area to explore during the original story.  In this way you release your contractually obligated DLC as a timed exclusive and then you can go and work on plot-centric aspects of DLC which you can then be free to release for everyone at the same time.

Having any sort of significant story impact from a timed exclusive would not be in their interest since that would likely turn away people from buying once the BIG REVEAL happened and was covered on every news site.  You just don't poison your own well for the sake of what is likely a relatively paltry exclusivity contract.

so it's the 24th here when I'll be able to see the trailer or able to purchase it?

I am still butthurt about the timed DLC thing, even though I know it is childish and silly and then I knew it was to be like this and it is not like Sony doesn't do it either. But it is overall a stupid stupid thing. Alas, guess I can research the new loot available in the new DLC

your guess is as good as mine, but do consider things like International time zones and what not, so I'd assume about 5-6 hours from now.

I don't buy it given that the hair textures in DAO and DA2 looked better. Don't even get me started on the characters in the menu screen, because the faces never fully load.

I've seen other games on the Frostbite engine on the same platform that don't handle this badly.

Comparing a next gen engine to a previous gen engine is a redundant argument.

Every game is different. To be frank, the game doesn't run absolutely silky smooth on PS4 or Xbox One (a *lot* of LOD popping the longer you play) so why would you expect it to work just as on well on last gen tech? That's just not realistic in terms of expectations.

I know that people always get hacked off about upgrading, but DAI was released at the start of the second year of a new generation. This is the point where the gaps in performance start to appear. And a year and a half into the new generation (as we are now) is long enough to save for the upgrade.

DAI plays and looks better on 360 and PS3 than it does on a 2004/5 PC.

The crazy thing is, it seems they've just ticked off their largest player base. If MP is an accurate reflection on player numbers PS4 has the largest player base across all platforms.

I'm a PC a gamer so am used to being left out of these things and am surprised we somehow got included with the Xboxers. A clerical error that will be rectified by the next DLC, I'm sure.

Increasingly though, this gen as last, I think that this will likely become the norm for more and more titles.

Especially with Windows 10 and DX12 coming to both PC and Xbox One. PC and Xbox will (once again) most likely be the focus of multiplatform developers, because of the similarities in the two platforms' architecture and processes. They'll then port over to PS4.

It happened last gen, it's only a matter of time really.

I would've bought DA:I on PC, as I had with the previous games and the Mass Effect series, but alas my computer was not able to run it and as I already had a PS4.

I'm honestly curious. How is wanting the same level of access to DLCs, no matter what platform you play on, "entitlement"?

It's entitlement because you think that they owe everyone access to the DLC on every platform at the same time, by virtue of the fact that people on all platforms bought the base game. They don't.

They sold you the base game, with an explicit promise that you wouldn't get all of the DLC right away. If you have a problem with that, you have the right to never buy the DLC, or even any Bioware product ever again, but don't act as if this is some sort of backstab. You bought exactly what they were selling.

I really don't get the fuss. Can't people wait a few more days for the PS4 release without spoiling things for themselves or driving themselves crazy?

Timed dlc benefits no one and neglects others. Fallout 3 had timed dlc on Xbox 360 and it was a pain to be honest. It just goes to show that people are still motivated about money over pleasing their own fans, which in turn is dissapointing. But it is the world we live in and an industry that is scrambling, so what you gonna do? Kickstart everything?

On the dlc note, where is it? Not out in Norway yet.

For an exclusivity deal, I'd assume it would be more than 'a few days' just saying.

I hate to break it to you, but deals like this don't get done for the sake of 'a few days'. Don't forget that even though the vast majority of die-hard Bungie fans were playing on Xbox platforms they won't get to play the PS exclusive Destiny content for a full year from release. Skyrim's timed exclusive content was a month ahead on Xbox 360 of the other platforms.

Could be a month. Could be a year. I have no idea which, and we'd all be purely guessing to put a figure on it. But either way, it won't be a matter of days. Nobody would buy a deal for that duration.

The first DLC was always going to be exclusive, this has been known for months. Where have you been exactly?

I'm very well aware that the first release would be a timed release; I did say that at the very beginning of my post after all so reread it and feel free to drop the unneeded attitude.

It's the part where they agreed to not being able to say when it will be released on other platforms that I have the biggest issue with.

Fair enough. And maybe you do have a value grievance.

But at the same point it's not like Inquisition DLC deal wasn't advertised as an Xbox first deal today. It was announced at last year's E3, long before the release of the game. Long before many even upgraded to next gen.

The surprise is that PC players won't have to wait, either. Because I think everybody assumed they would have to.

Which is another exceptionally good point to have a grievance. It is not a paid exclusive, it is a paid exclusion. Exclusive would mean no PC release either. They paid to not release it on another specific platform. It's a very sordid deal and not one I think paints either EA or MS in very good light.

Meh, $15 for obviously padded cut content...ESO is B2P and is less grindy.

Oh look TSW issues 5-8 discounted for veterans - yoink !

I think the reason why Bioware did not hype this up is because the DLC is nothing more than an extra zone. No dialogue, no cut-scene...just an extra zone.

Not really. And not in the eyes of Microsoft.

Xbox and PC are both Microsoft platforms. It's why games like Titanfall were on Xbox and PC.

By the end of this year both PC and Xbox One will be running Windows 10. Both PC and Xbox will be also be running DX12.

PS4 will not.

That's a huge amount of common ground for multiplatform developers. I think it would be naive not to expect that many developers will place a lot more focus on thinking of PC and Xbox as being part of the same platform, but with PC having more power to play with, obviously. :)

That's certainly the picture which Microsoft are painting themselves. Xbox, Windows Mobile, Surface Tablets and Desktop PCs - all running Windows 10 and interacting with each other.

Microsoft see Xbox as their platform for the Living Room and PC as their platform for the backroom/bedroom. I would imagine that this change in direction from Microsoft, of late, may explain why the DLC is also out on PC.

No one knows how long PS4/PS3/360 players have to wait. And I doubt it's 'a few days'.
