Please, please don't tell me that modding is broken. Mods are the only thing keeping me playing this game. If they're broken I refuse to buy any DLC whatsoever. Ugh. Beyond ridiculous. I won't be purchasing any future Bioware games that are so unfriendly to modding because I can only imagine they do it on purpose. Why they want to demand that people play a game they paid for a certain way I have no idea. I will stick to Elder Scrolls if that's the case. It pains me to say it because I'm a huge fan of Bioware games, but a game without modding isn't worth playing for me.

Yeah, I'm with you, Evenstar. After more than a decade of loyal patronage (and hundreds and hundreds of dollars in sales, as I bought 5 copies of DAO, 3 copies of DA2, and at least 4 copies of BG/BG2 over the years, plus both the Inquisitor Edition and the Deluxe Edition of DAI), I'm out. I'll probably continue to play DAI once the modders find a workaround, but until that happens, I'll be spending my free time working on my long-neglected DAO mod. Without mods, I have zero interest in DAI. I don't nerf my game or use god mode gear or anything. I just can't look at the Skyhold jammies.

Congratulations, EA. You've lost another previously loyal customer. I hope it was worth it.

I'm bummed about the mods not working too, but after reading the comments I have to say I'm a little disappointed in our faith in Bioware. It's literally been less than 24 hours, and people are threatening to never play another Bioware game again. To those people I say, yeah right. I understand you're upset, heck, I just barely modded my game and now my character looks frightening due to the lack of mods I used, but I don't think that this was an intentional decision made by Bioware. With every patch Bioware has to see what changes they can make to better "Their" game, not the one that modders have changed. Now we just have to wait for the mod community to find a work around. Be patient and stop freaking out. To be honest it's my spring break, and all I was going to do was play my "modded" DAI, but now I don't want to cause I got used to the joy the mods brought me. I could be pissed about it, or move on and wait for a fix. I'll choose the latter.

I would be totally fine with it if Bioware didn't intend to break modding, it is, after all, not their responsibility. It does seem rather suspect, though, since modding broke after patch 5, the modders found a workaround.... now patch 6 breaks the workaround too.

Much has been said about the Skyrim-ization of Dragon Age, but Bioware forgot to include the support for modding that I've always admired Bethesda for. I'm sure it is the ability to mod Skyrim (and previous TES games) that increases the longevity and popularity of the TES games.

In any case, I, too, consider mods essential for DAI, in fact I did not purchase DAI until I knew there were some decent pyjama retex mods out.

Scoff about modding if you will, but you can't sell DLC to players who have lost interest in the game.

Yes, I'm confident that modders will find a workaround. They always do, despite ever-increasing challenges, and I admire them for that. But that really isn't the point. It's more the parent company's culture of indifference toward its customers.

It's actually really useful.

My reaction to the patch and DLC is just to wait.  I do use mods and I'd like to see how well the DLC works with them.   That isn't a complaint, it's only an observation.   I'll be hanging back and reading performance reviews.  I've had some rough luck with BioWare DLCs in the past, so I'd rather make sure that everything is compatible.

I was under the impression from the description page that it only handled face data.  Has its functionality expanded beyond what the description page lists?

I'm not really in it for retexes of the jammies (They alas interfere with armors), but rather to de-grind the game.  I don't want to have to look everywhere for rarefied schematics, or go kill twenty bears for the twenty bear asses I need to make a new armor or go to twenty shiny ore nodes to collect twenty shiny ore chunks.  I mod DAI to de-hassle-ify the gameplay.  And the patch broke that yet again.

You see, MadCat221, that's the point. You and I use mods for different reasons, but so what! Regardless of your reasons for adding mods, they allow you to customize your game to suit your playing style, and that's what keeps us playing... and keeps us interested in the game long enough to buy their DLC.

To use an analogy, you and I want ice cream. You prefer hot fudge while I prefer caramel sauce, but both are available, so we're both happy. Yeah, unadorned ice cream is still delicious, but if the ice cream shop owner insists that the only way to eat it is plain, straight from the carton, well, we don't need to go to an ice cream parlor for that. Not when you can go home, pull the Ben and Jerry's out of the freezer, and put whatever you want on it. Ben and Jerry's here represents DAO. I don't belong to the cult that thinks DAO was inherently better than its successors, but it was easily moddable, and that counts for a lot.

The official creator for the mod manager said that unless you overwrite the official patch, mods won't work. They are trying to stop mods it seems.

My mediocre caveman brain fails to understand why would they sabotage moders deliberately..... This is too hard to grasp. It's like trying to understand why the universe exists.

Skyrim was not a big thing, but the mods helped that game a lot and contribute to the longevity of a game. Unfortunately, DAI is not going to last long...

Weren't those already removed with patch 5 ? I wonder if the amulets of power you would "legally" get were put back in the game.. Was this fixed ?

Supposedly. There's a new glitch for controller users, though.

I imagine they'll patch that eventually. Hopefully nothing innocent gets caught in the crossfire this time.

No, the amulets are gone, and there's no indication they will ever return.

It doesn't make sense to me (especially since not all of them could be exploited, and it removes all the amulets for some companions while leaving multiple for others), but that's the way it is.

Yes it has.  It'll give you access to gold, power points and more.

Here's the "more" part: http://daitools.free...flags-t277.html

The save editor itself comes with a plot flags .txt file, but that forum will tell you the rest of it.

I wanted to clarify something also.  When I said I'd been burned by BioWare DLC in the past, I'm not referring to the content.  In fact, I haven't regretted a single BioWare purchase.  My problem is different and thankfully, when Allan was still around, I was able to tell him about it.

My issue is the compatibility of DLCs with BioWare's base game.  Starting with ME2, I have to use a PPC Patcher in order to get the DLCs to work, even if I made sure to download it straight from the official site.  For ME3, I have to use some replacement .dll files in order to authenticate the DLC.   In both instances, I tried a fresh install of everything before using the program/files and I still had to sodding hoop jump just to get everything to work.

In Dragon Age Ultimate Edition, my DLC would never work if downloaded through Origin.   As a result, I have all the DLC downloaded from the official site and saved on my computer.  When I need to reinstall again, I won't have to go back to the site.   Finally, in DA2, I ran into a well-known bug after installing Legacy.

I bought Legacy about a year after I bought the main game.  While during Sebastian's personal quest in Act 2, my game will freeze just before going into the room where the lord wants to turn the elf servant into a gold statue.  There would be the actual words "Loading..." down on the lower right.  I've spent a lot of time troubleshooting that.  I did the two suggestions: Hit ESC rapidly to get out of the scene, and remove patch file from the Legacy folder.  Neither of which worked.  I also tried a fresh install, with no mods.  Installed Legacy, went fine; installed MotA and it went fine.  Installed Exiled Prince, went to the manor, headed upstairs and...loading...loading...loading....

When I start a new game, I have to remove the DLC folder entirely, finish Seb's mission, and then put back in the folder.

It may be a popular thing to hate on BioWare right now, but I don't.  I do know that I don't want to go through those levels of irritation for DLC that I purchased and downloaded from the main site.  So that's why I'm personally hanging back.  I'm waiting for a bit to see if any stories like the ones I mentioned come up.

Just to be complete with information, the Amulets weren't removed from the game, they were removed from that list of container loot tables. If you are on a PC, you can get all the amulets you want using CE, and there's a mod that puts them back in the loot tables (Patch5 for now) and it would be just like nothing happened. Unfortunately, console users are out of luck and will have to put up with what BioWare offers, or doesn't, as it were..

They can freely dupe the amulets (along with all other equipment) for now, so all they need is to get a single one legitimately (from the war table or as a quest reward, or one of the three that are left as loot).

I rolled back the patch until I get the dlc since I don't know if I'll get it this week or not and there's no real reason to use the latest patch right now if it removes the mods.

Has anybody tested if the dlc will work with the previous patch if you rolled back for the mods?

The DLC will not work with Patch 5, it will crash the game.

Has anyone tested starting with a vanilla patch 6, getting the DLC, and then merging mods? I mean, that's basically what we had to do with patch 5.

Ie, you remove your merged folder from patch, rename your "patchV" folder "Patch", download the patch, then download the DLC, then put a new, empty merged folder into patch. Then remove the cache from the mod manager, and merge all your mods like it's the first time? That way it'll recognize patch 6 as the right patch and you'd be all set?

Don't want to buy DLC until it works with mods. Anyone test it this way yet?

That new patch can really suck it. I'm sorry, but it's just left me feeling bitter after Bioware forced us to remove our mods if we wanted to play the latest DLC. I've a feeling with every new DLC that arrives Bioware will slap on a patch that further prevents its players from having some creative fun with the game, thus making it harder to mod it.

Since installing the patch I get the following message when I try to open my saved game (saved game dated 3/22/2015): "This save data was created with a newer version of the game. Please download the latest patch and try again."

When I click check for update it tells me that my game is up to date.

I also "repaired" the game - to no avail.

This seems to affect only games that were begun after patch 5 was installed.

I can still open an old game that was begun before patch 5.

I did have mods installed.

Weird.

Are you talking for when loading specific saves? Because there is a reason and fix for that. Everytime you add mods to an already modded patch, in the 'package' file, the version number increases (you can see it if you open the file with notepad, very simple. The number should be 7 with the latest patch?). If you edit the package file to increase the number manually, you will be able to play your modded saves. Increase the number until it works (for example I had to change my number to 10 for a save).

Katerinafm has a workaround for this.   Please see quoted post above. It's on page 2 of this thread.  :)  I also haunt the daitools forum since a lot of modders post updates and information there regarding mods and workarounds.

There is no current workaround for the Patch 6. It cannot currently be merged as we did Patch 5.  A few of the modders are investigating further.

For more information or to follow-up with modders you can google daitools.
