Human interaction, wether it being in a platonic relationship or being love interests has to do with connecting in one way or another.
Wether a relationship stands or falls will be determined in how things will develop over time. If the connection(s) will keep both happy, and yes, interested to maintain it. As long as both get out of it what they are looking for it will continue to be a happy commitment.
Which is for some part related to maturity since that comes with age as they say due to experience...How 'mature' someone is however involves a lot more things besides the year they were born. I know for a fact that some are much more 'mature' then others twice their age.
