Why can't we just address people as people?

Sigmund Freud is arguably one of the greatest minds of humanity, akin to Albert Einstein and Johannes Kepler.
He was not only one of the great neurologists but also the father of psycho analysis. His techniques are still used today and have helped countless individuals. His work led to the entire area of study we call psychology.
So I wouldn't be to quick to bash him.
However I don't entirely agree with everything he says. Some his ideas of sexuality seem a lot more like projection to me than reliable scientific theory.
Well, I think he was mentally unstable.
So there!

Just being a woman I think. The problem is that genetics has not stayed up with intellect. I don’t mind men looking at my legs, or nodding as I walk by or offering to hold the door. These are pretty common and accepted social behaviors, but believing that because I am a woman that I have to acknowledge some genetic instruction that someone else has is just not on and many time fearful. I think the basic psychology test is when asking men what they are afraid of with women they respond that they might get laughed at and when asking women the same question they say they might get hurt. That is a pretty big difference in where we stand in society.Well, being labelled anything that isn't true is offensive.
To call me a cougar is to say that I am an older women who preys on young men and that isn't the case. Men might find the term appealing, but I don't think many women do. Unless they revel in being one, of course.
MILF is insulting because it's utterly disrespectful to me as a mother. Can't I simply be a woman you'd like to f*ck, or even better, just a woman?

His female patients talking about father molestation he assumed it was their fantasy (seduction theory). No more needed, but Oedipus Complex presupposes an infantile sexual fantasy towards the mother which has been long since disproven. His interpolating of dreams is of 'wish fulfillment' which is completely out. This guy really screwed women over. Read the assessment of Dora.

Generalisations are there for the bigger picture. They are not supposed to serve as an in depth guide to your next door neighbour.
Addressing people as people is helpful when dealing with individuals. But when talking about society as a whole, that is where generalisations come in.
When I studied Business, understanding the market was all about generalisations. So I can say that they do have their uses.
However there is a huge difference between talking about a group as a whole and reducing a single person to a set of stereotypes.

I know. I'm just saying in this paricular case of MILFS and Cougars and cubs, and the whatsits and do-dangles why do we care. MILF is pretty crass imo and cougar isn't far behind and both seem demeaning.

Isaac Newton believed in alchemy (which is outdated now). This doesn't negate the fact that he discovered the laws of motion and came up with modern day calculus.
Sigmund Freud was limited in his understanding since psychology was only in it's infancy. He made lots of mistakes. He had admitted himself that he didn't understand women. You look back at any of the great minds and you'll find that they all have subscribed to ideas that seem idiotic today.

This doesn't reflect all relationships where older women date much younger men.

The big difference is that Isaac never spun gold and Sigmund was responsible for the sever mistreatment of a lot, no, A LOT of women.

So much wrong with this tho. Do you even realize what your saying here? Its ok to call people whatever because its faster?ease of using one word versus many > trying not to offend anybody
That might work for you on the internet man, but I guarantee in the real world its going to get you into trouble at work, or worse get you an ass kicking when you insult the wrong person.
Cant say that I do, manly man that I am.But, do you have pink sports shoes?
Or what, should that be boyish boy that I am? Am I even considered a man yet?!?!?!

Normally I could go along. But not at the expense of using a word or words that are already offensive or at the very least have an increased chance of causing offense by categorizing a group in a one sided manor. Especially in a somewhat overtly demeaning and crass way.
Maybe I'm weird but that's the way I feel in this instance.

Yes. Anything else is a waste of time. But of course you have to maintain the apperance of not being a sociopath IRL. Doesn't mean I'm going to limit my lexicon of terms to list people by on the internet. A cougar is a cougar. If people want to be offended by that they can be offended.
