So you would be cool with calling me a sp*ck? Or any of the other hundred racist terms for people of Hispanic descent?

Or does your "lexicon of terms" only include words like cougar and not the heavier stuff?

I bet he'd be cool with calling you Latin or Hispanic, instead of researching your whole life story so he can call you Mexican-American, Cuban-American or whatever. Same as calling a white guy white or a black guy black. No need to overthink it.

Isn't a "cougar" a an older woman who purposely seeks out younger men and lures them into dating her? Now calling someone who just happened to fall in love with someone younger by chance a cougar IS very offensive and VERY ignorant imo.

Interesting that the thread is titled "Women with guys half their age" instead of "Guys with women over half their age".

Anyway, as long as they are all consenting adults I wish them the best of luck.

If someone calls me something offensive (lolmegettingoffended) then I just brush it off. The key to not be offended is all about perception and to understand that the way people react is based on their life experiences.

In most cases, when people attempt to be offensive, it's not really aimed dead at us. It often has to do with how they relate to the topic.

We're all just living in the projections of each other's life understandings and often we are just the proxies, the chess pieces of life to which our loved ones have their own built-in reactions. I'm not saying this to automate life or omit the familiarity from our relationships, but mainly for us to know that almost every time we get vexed, we are actually just in a misunderstanding.

And if it wasn't us, then it would definitely be someone else tbh.

I say just live your life full of contentment, irrelevant to what other people say, think, and do.

When I had just turned 18 and was working in my first job as a cashier in a grocery store (I was still a student), a elderly woman approached me (I had seen her few times there. I would guess now that she was between 50 or 60). She flat out asked me if I would be interested in opera. That she would like me to escort her there. She was well dressed and obviously had money. Fur coat and all.

It took me few seconds to understand what she said. Then all my blood fell down to my ankles and I stuttered something in lines of not liking opera (I was probably white as a sheet). She left the store with a annoyed look on her face, never to be seen again.

Does it help if cougar usually implies a more sexually attractive woman?

You didn't even ask what opera?

You haven't lived until an older woman has taken you to see the Barber of Seville. You haven't LIVED.

Hmmmm... do you think gay people would be less offended to be called that word up there which JW and M is using so causally to make fun of if they were somewhat attractive people?

And..... I'm assuming she was what you would call a cougar?

I was in such shock that I barely knew my own name, let alone ask about the opera.

I would, probably the closest thing. Though I don´t know if she was really out to look for true love. Can´t be sure.

That's a nonsensical comparison and you know it.

It is almost always in the context. And I think most of us use words that could be offensive in the wrong company or circumstance. If I don’t know the person I don’t get offended as much as I become afraid. But in different circumstances it can be funny too. If it is Judith and we are talking about, “What a cougar Claudia has become” and if it is Claudia we don’t even need to say what a b!tch Judith is.

Louie CK is brilliant at it.

Dude, it wasn't an accident that you chose to be hungry in my hometown, which is VERY FAR from Canada, and my sister definitely wasn't the first edible person you bumped into. That's all I'm saying.

Nah, it's a nonsense to any sane or informed person.

One is a generally regarded as offensive-ish term with plenty of usable alternatives for the more delicate souls among us, whereas cougar is the only such term most people know for cradle robbing women, and not one with a particularly negative connotation at that.

And I never claimed to be sane.
