Call a woman a female dog and you're still calling her a female dog, regardless of the level of attractiveness. Call a man an unclean child of unwed parents and you're still calling him an unclean child of unwed parents, regardless of his level of attractiveness.
Call a woman a cougar and you're implying that she's middle-to-late aged, seeking younger men AND attractive. Using slurs like the N-bomb, the F-bomb, the S-bomb or the C-bomb, none of these imply anything positive. A cougar implies a (possibly) negative connotation of going after younger men, but the stereotypical image is that of an attractive, bold and confident woman who knows what she wants.
It may be offensive to you, but it's not a purely negative term nor is it always meant in a duragatory manner.

I still however find it offensive but Jimmy, it's something I personally find offensive and I just think that you and others should respect that.
