I finished the DLC just now. The story in it is pretty cool, to be honest. Seeing the Avvarr and how they live etc was fun. The new area was more or less a tropical jungle with some mountains. Extremely tedious to travel through. LOADS of backtracking, climbing, and frustration. A bit weird that the avarrs actually dress in thick furr etc, when they live in a tropical jungle.

12 more shards to pick up. Very very jump quest`ish on more than a few of them.

Lots of search quests. Very tedious, actually. Felt like the Hinterlands.

LOADs of schematics and new ressources to find\buy.

3 new Astariums.

New Dragon to fight

Harkonites. Not those guys, ugh. You have to fight around 40 huge fellows during the DLC, and every damn one of them has more HP than the Arishok had. Extremely tedious.

Lovely scenery.

Some side quests actually had a decent story.

Some nice additions to the lore. Interesting stuff.

The area is kind of a mix between the Emerald Graves and the Forbidden Oasis, really.

About 8 hours of playtime. 1.5 hours if you only do the story bit. Give or take.

Giving this one a 4 out of 10. The good bits was the story and the lore. But the whole new area was probably the most tedious area in the whole game.

No clue where the Skyrim comparrison comes from, to be honest. The dlc takes place in a tropical jungle.

Now please tell me I was wrong on complaining before the launch? I have too much experience with Bioware to expect anything good from them.
As exactly as I said new crafting stuff that I would need. It is impossible to not read Bioware's mind these days, there is not a single thing that I didn't know before hand. I wanted to be wrong about the lore on Avvars and having side-quests with them but it is also unfortunatly true, but I'm happy to get new crafting stuff, will help spending time until PoE.

Wait... you mean you're actually buying the DLC?

Wait... you mean you're actually buying the DLC?

I said it before the release. And said why. "It is going to have crafting material so I will need to buy which makes me hate them even more".
It was among my predictions. I already knew I would buy every single DLC, since my only joy is character building and DLC have the strongest items, there wasn't even a question about me buying all of them. If it was a pile of poop with items inside I'd pay 100 euros without a problem. If it enhances crafting I buy, no question. Also, as I said before the launch, I'm only sad because I will have to disable subtitles and play on mute to ignore Avvar lore. I wish it was only items like in DA2. I'd pay twice this price and would have absolutely no complaints about it.

Exactly what about the crafting materials mandates purchasing the DLC? That's like saying you need a new set of tires for your car, so you have to buy another car altogether.

And the problem with being like Skyrim is...that you make lots of money as a company and your fanbase who like to hunt dragons happy?

Oh how turrible, turrible!

No, it's because people who like Skyrim (myself included) can/should go play Skyrim.

That's like saying that if I wanted to go play an FPS, I should just go play Wolfenstein 3D instead of DOOM, since DOOM is like Wolfenstein.

Wow. OP has lost his mind.

If you are buying a DLC you don't want for a game you don't like to get crafting materials you don't need... go see a professional.

I love crafting and there are new materials and new schematics as I said before launch it would have. And as I'm sure all DLC will have except perhaps for black emporium. Since I love crafting I will have to buy them all. I can't live without having the best crafting schematics and material, previous to this DLC the game was Cradle of Sulevin for me.

Tropical jungle? From the map I would have guessed the Frostback basin would be in the southern Thedosian hemisphere equivalent of central / northern Scandinavia or thereabouts. Ah well...

Same happened with the Arbor Wilds, very jungle-y including tropical parrots. I guess they just gave up on even semi-sensible worldbuilding. But hey, this is where people will probably say 'It's magic, mon...'.

Why do we have to pay for this bs dlc when there is basically no real side-content in this game other than mmo-grind repeatable filler crap?

I'm not paying for that crap. It should be free, especially considering the insane amount of bugs we've put up with.

No effing way I'm paying for it.

Leaving this game for pillars of eternity anyway. Bioware, you dun goofed big time with this crap. Why would I give you people more money for content when what you gave us was a half-done game with a ton of bugs and mmo-repeatables? Seriously, if you think hunting shards down on these big maps is considered side-content then you're out of touch with what makes side-content actual side-content in an RPG. That ain't it.

There's not one god damn interesting side-mission/story in this entire game, I'm not paying extra for something that should freaking be there in the first place biofail.

Aren't they used for some side quest inside that area?

If not this means that with the DLC there will be more shards that we need to unlock all the doors in the Oasis, so we can leave behind the trickiest ones..

I don't know, to be honest. I didn't find anywhere to use the shards in the new area, at all. I may have missed it, though. But half of the new shards were rather tricky to get.

The new area looks great. The main story in the area is pretty interesting. Most of the side-quests do have a story to them, and they have more than one way to be solved. But the whole area feels very very grindy. I dunno. Maybe you were half right and half wrong?

The whole area seems to be in a "hole in the ground". Its a lake with a very thick forest\jungle around it, and some mountains. And a very deep swamp. No parrots in it, but it does have "velociraptors".

In other words, the Thedosian equivalent of WoW's Un'Goro crater. Ah well, they do seem to have a fondness for MMO's these days.

Though Un'Goro did lie at somewhat 'tropical' latitudes in Azeroth if I remember correctly.

Privately I have a nagging suspicion they just wanted as wide a range of different environments as possible, screw plausibility, hence tropical environments in the Arbor Wilds and the Frostback basin (or the deserts in Orlais, although these have a quasi-plausible explanation in the form of the Blight).

The geofiction enthusiast in me is beginning to hyperventilate and not in a good way. Best to lie down now... <_<

No clue. I only played WoW for about 1 hour.

Not sure if "tropical" is a good word to use though. Dense jungle, I guess. and the place looks really hot. I dunno. Predator 1 mixed with Fangorn Forest. Something like that.

100% right since I hate Avvars and I won't read the dialogue about the quests. I don't remember if it was in this topic or another butI said if it was any other culture except Qunari, Chasind and Avvars it would be great. But Bioware picked #2 on my hated list. Now it is probably #1.

So you hate a fictional group of people that, up to this point, very little has been revealed about? Seems rational and not at all crazy.

Fair enough. If you hate them you hate them. I would avoid this DLC if I were you, though. It is very focused on the Avvars.

As stated in this topic I can't evade any DLC for crafting purposes, I'm just ignoring dialogue and it is amazing, already found new chematics and materials, that is the only thing left in Thedas for me now anyway, and only until PoE. This DLC and its crafting will keep me occupied for these few days (I hope).

I will pretend sanity is important. But it would help me if you told me why, for now I will try to find a reason. You are all weird, I mean, humans, it seems for you life makes senes, there are concepts of right, wrong, good, bad, and so many other things. Perhaps it is funny to be a human being, I will never know.
