Red lyrium is simply lyrium that has been corrupted by the taint, right? So, if a Grey Warden were to take lyrium, would the taint in their blood corrupt it? Would they have a higher tolerance against the adverse effects? It was never really explored with Alistair, so I'd be curious to hear other people's thoughts on this.

Haven't played Inquisition yet, so this may be the last time I appear in this thread, but I don't think so since Warden mages seem able to use it without noticeable effects? At least I presume Avernus and Janeka made use of it, and they didn't seem any crazier than I would expect a mage to be. (Well, Janeka perhaps, but she'd been stuck in the old Warden prison in Kirkwall for who knows how long, hearing Corypheus' Calling.)

Red lyrium probably only forms under specific circumstances - the Taint being present likely isn't the only condition, otherwise (as you said) we'd see it covering the Deep Roads.

This is likely true. Darkspawn have been running around the Deep Roads for a thousand years. And yet until recently the only place where red lyrium could be found is in the Primeval Thaig.
Which had no darkspawn in it at all, and was far older than the magister attack on the Golden City. Which leads us to wonder just where the taint came from in the first place, but that's for antoher thread ![]()
The question of what would happen to a Grey Warden mage who used red lyrium is a good one. It might be they could resist it to some degree. Or maybe it would accelerate their Calling as they took more taint into themselves (Grey Wardens tend to reach their Calling sooner during Blights, after all)
Another question: Cassandra's personal quest seemed to indicate Seekers are resisstant to red lyrium too. Could their resistance to blood magic and possession have something to do with it?
