Some thoughts about the anchor and how it can close fade rifts.

This is a theory about the nature of the anchor, the nature of fade rifts, and how they work together to create a plausible means by which the anchor closes fade rifts.  It's all based on in-game lore, but it admittedly involves a couple of assumptions.  Still, it does nicely fit together some different aspects of the game.

So first, I'm hypothesizing that the anchor works essentially by always being in the fade. This is consistent with the name "anchor"; it is "anchored" to the fade while you run around in the world.  Because it is linked to your body and/or will as well as the fade, it serves as a bridge to the fade.  This fits what the spirit of the Divine says about the anchor being a key to the fade, and is consistent with how lyrium facilitates magic by serving as a bridge between the world and the fade.

Next, fade rifts.  Based on journals found in the Still Ruins, (where they created a fade rift by trying to open a "channel" into the fade) I am going to say that fade rifts might look, rather than like torn fabric, more like this 2d representation of a black hole:

where we are looking at the veil, viewed from the real world side; the research notes from the Still Ruins do indicate that a fade rift is opened from the real side, not the fade side.  The point of the cone stretches further and further until it touches the fade, and the the tube then forms a channel to the fade. While the veil is said not be a literal membrane, that doesn't mean it can't function similarly to one in the abstract sense (which is why we have a codex entry making that disambiguation in the first place).  It's also worth noting that the breach looks a bit like a cone.

Now, closing the rifts. If the inquisitor has something on his/her hand that is always in the fade, he/she could reach towards this cone/tunnel in the veil and bring the anchor into contact with the end point of it, which also sits in the fade.  Then he/she pulls on that end point, and you can see he/she yanks his/her arm back, "holding" the end of the cone and drawing it back through, like popping out an impossibly deep dent.

Thoughts?  I'm sure I haven't remembered and addressed every in-lore data point that could support or deny this theory, which is part of why I'm posting it here.
