Won't be buying the DLCs if mods don't work. Anyone feel the same?

If the DLC were something like Citadel, it might have been worth disabling mods in order to get to experience it once, but even then not in the long run. And by all accounts Jaws of Hakkon are a far cry from that.

Edit: And that's assuming Dragon Age can deliver DLC on that level. What made Citadel work was that you'd had three games to get to love and build history with your team members. With the DA concept of switching things out every game, it likely wouldn't have the same emotional impact.

They're not breaking mods on purpose. That would be ridiculous.

Personally I'm not buying the dlc because I don't see the point in buying content that takes place before the endgame.

I don't know... Bioware seems pretty petty from what i've seen here in BSN..

I was very much enjoying my retextures, having different colour default outfits for my companions as well as the convenience mods such as insant looting, more loot and fade-touched, no long War Table wait times, etc. I'm so frustrated that this recent patch broke modding again. I can see it happening once but twice? It feels like someone is intentionally trying to screw with modding and to me that is game over. I really feel strongly about being able to play my games how I choose and customizing things to my play style. I still play Origins with mods to this day. Mods don't stop people from purchasing DLC - The Elder Scrolls is proof of this. Any and all mods make the game more enjoyable to replay and come back to. Why would I want to buy DLC when even the main campaign has been made less enjoyable without mods??

Totally understand your sentiment.

But I can ASSURE you that Bioware is NOT trying to screw you because you are modding the game.

The game engine is a very complex one and the patch data changes as they make improvements and such, which will always break mods.

It is unfortunate, but it is the truth of the matter.

Once they stop patching the game and no more DLC gets released, modders will have a more constant set of data to mod.

Modding the game at this time is premature while it is still being patched quite heavily.

I know they're not "against mods" in theory, but they won't even provide basic support for modders. We know there's a method of doing simple things like retextures, why break that? I don't believe they couldn't find away to at least let players KEEP what they already have. I am so disappointed in this company now that I have shelved the game and I don't think I'll be purchasing any further products. I have purchased all the games, DLCs, books, comics, etc. thus far. I don't think I will in the future though. They are not the same as they used to be.

It also doesn't seem like the mod manager will be getting an update. There was only a few people working on it and it seems like it's been abandoned.

Sweet summer child....you are not listening!

Did you read this? http://www.reddit.co...s_up_with_this/

Bioware won't support even the most basic of modding if it means adding to their work load.

You may think that something as simple as textures should be easy to support, but since we don't really know how Frostbite software works, we can't make any such assumption.

You have to accept that modding simply isn't part of Bioware's focus for this game, or for any future game using Frostbite, for that matter.

The BW guys say that the modding thing is not intentional. I believe it. Why not? They just upgrade the game to achieve a better performance of the game....Mods blocking is a collateral damage, but still I appreciate the effort. Is a pain in the butt, but we have to keep adapting and designing new ways to introduce the mods. Well, I mean, the magnificent experts around who know what to do.

Mods or not Inquisition is probably the best game ever. Having said that I prefer it with my mods on....

Cause they fixed something else, I suppose. As Bioware goes out of their way in explaining in that topic I linked earlier:

I don't believe they couldn't find away to at least let players KEEP what they already have.

Again, read that topic. It is explained.

If I had a nickle for everytime someone said this and actually went through with it, I'd have zero nickles.

From what I've heard, it's only abandoned until the end of the patch cycle. Which is reasonable. Every game with mods suffers from patches.

Seem to recall similar answers on updates and DLC coming from Bethesda concerning Skyrim. Thanks for posting!

It hasn't been abandoned, per se.  From what I heard, the coders who created Mod Manager are taking a break until the final patch is released.  Every time there's a new patch, it messes with the way mods work, and it'll just be easier to wait so they'd only need to add a fix once more.  Until then, there are modders trying to find a way to around patch 6 with Mod Manager as it is, since there was a fix for patch 5.

final patch....haha

Whew, I haven't laughed so hard in a while.  The author basically retired his mod.

Don't be ridiculous. It's not like they are still patching DA:O and DA2. At some point they will simply stop patching, whether the game is entirely bug free or not (mostly not, DA:O is hardly bug free even after the patch cycle)

Yep, world's gotta end eventually right?

Seriously though, Dragon Age Origins was being patched 3 years after it was released.  3 YEARS!   So if the mod manager is really waiting until the patching is complete, we are talking YEARS here.  In 3 years, I will not be interested in playing this game.  So it may as well be never.

Yeah, you're right. But you also know that at this stage of the game, patches still come a lot and fast. In half a year orso you can epexct a version of the game to last much longer than now. That's probably when they'll pick up the modding again.

Mhmm.  I suppose I could have worded my post better, but I read on the mod forums that the coders are taking a break.  No one's stated outright that they've abandoned their project.  I don't think it's fair to assume they're gone for good at this point.

Yeah, I don't think they are, either. People do eventually stop modding when the toy they're playing with starts to get old, but DAI is really too new for that kind of burnout. It's probably more a case of "Let's chill a bit until the game is stable and then have a go at it." That doesn't mean that they're going to wait for the last patch to drop. But they already know there's another update coming in early May, so no point fixing it twice.

No. Hopefully modders can adapt to change.
Wish I knew more about or had time to learn more really.

Modding always was an interest greatly varying with the individual. There are people who stick to their game/community for years,

and those who establish a kind of cometary orbit, coming back to the scene for shorter periods every year or so when they replay the game - if it's a game worthy of replaying for any length of time to begin with.

Then of course there are the most elusive ones who are interested in a specific game only for a short time - in such cases they can make great contributions over a couple of weeks, only to disappear forever. Like in BG2 modding if I remember correctly there was a guy (presumably) called Taimon who was active for a very short time back in 2008 or 2009, but provided the community with a whole bunch of exe hacks. No one had any idea how he found them, but he was handing them out like candy. They ended up incorporated in what later became ToBEx, but Taimon himself afaik hasn't been seen since.
