DLC and the fate of Bioware points

Can I finally use those remaining points? It's not as if I haven't payed for them.

I realized this morning, when I saw the price for the new DLC that unless something magical happens to my wallet I probably won't get it. Then I remembered I have the equivalent of about 12 Euros in Bioware points still unused, sitting there all sad and lonely.

Wouldn't this be the perfect occasion to use them to buy the DLC or at least get a discount for it?

I remember a few months ago we talked about it with Derek French and he said he would get back to us when they (EA, I guess) decided what to do with them. I think enough time has passed and would like to either use the points or get the money back.

Or did I miss something and there is some way to reclaim them?

Didn't they confirm a long while ago that you would not be able to use Bioware points anymore and it kicked up a fuss?

They said they wouldn't be using the points method any longer but they needed to find a way to refund those poor souls who had extra points and were not interested in getting old DLCs, because they saw no way to just give it back as money. That's the last I heard about it.

Now, if they've decided to not refund them anymore I'd like to know.

I think bioware was hoping that if it stayed silent no one would remember about the bioware points.... Lol.

Ya, well, unfortunately for Bioware/EA it doesn't work like that, does it? If not me, then somebody equally fond of his every penny would have remembered. Especially when they needed to buy something from the same place that is holding their money hostage.

If anyone is interested, I just spent an hour and half chatting with EA and they told me Bioware points are not refundable because I bought them more than a year ago. The advisor suggested opening a thread on the Bioware forums because it's Bioware's problem and some Bioware developer should address it.

Since lately it seems getting a hold of a Bioware developer it's pretty difficult in the end I accepted a 15% discount on some month old game.

I feel slightly cheap now.

That discount actually seems like a good way to cash points in.

Well, yes. It's does not come up to the actual amount I had still left in points but at least it's something.

Everyone has a price. How do you feel now when you have found out yours?

Cheap as chips. Practically a bargain.

Thank you. I'm not going to use that discount anytime soon, anyway. It'd be nice to know if there was some other way.

Wondering if anyone has heard any updates to this issue?

I'm super happy to see BioWare points discontinued, but still startled that BioWare did not have a plan in place for people who had remaining points. I don't see why it would be complicated to let people choose to buy DA:I or even the next Mass Effect game's DLC with either cash or their remaining BioWare points. Seems like such a simple solution.

Someone clearly didn't think thoroughly through the process of discontinuing BioWare points. I do hope the current plan is not to fall silent on this issue. I'm sure there is a tiny minority that still has remaining points, but these are points bought with money with the intent to exchange for a BioWare product, not a donation.

We're not likely to hear anything on the weekend, I'd recommend waiting until we know they're back in the office.

That's a good point.

I'm interested in an answer to this, as well.. will be keeping my eye on the topic. As far as I know, points you have in your account are still able to purchase things like DLC from the first 3 Mass Effects, etc.. they just are not good for DA:I forward. But it would be nice to know if they have a plan to refund those people who were hoping to use the points they already had in their account for future purchases where they are now unable to.

They're also still selling points on Amazon for previous DLC like Citadel: BioWare Points 1200 Citadel [Online Game Code]

I don't see a way in either the Origin store or Xbox account to see what your Bioware Points balance is.. I know I had some left (and can see their prior purchase in my purchase history) but no balance anywhere. Anyone know where to find that?

Found it. Log into the old BSN and go to 'purchase bioware points' (here: https://points.biowa...kout/showOffers ) and it shows the balance.

Edit #2: This is a better link, it goes to your account: https://points.biowa...ts/showAccounts

And on my previous comment that we were supposed to be able to use the points for items prior to DA:I - there's no way during checkout (in the Origin store) to tell it to use your existing points for something like an ME3 digital deluxe upgrade (couldn't find any DLC to test it on, which is weird). Sooo yeah.. they appear to be unusable there.

Edit #3: I checked Xbox live and they are showing only $ for payment options as well, no points balance availability.

I found it was always a better option for me to just go get Xbox Live points instead. I'm glad at least that decision of mine was well-founded. :/ You guys should be able to get something out of your money's worth, what another quick grab scheme... seems they're full of those these days.

Thank you for the links. Funny thing is I was supposed to have a thousand or so points there, or I did last time I checked many moons ago. Now there are only  160 points. I guess I'll be trying to match all the receipt for the points in my mail with the actual purchases as soon as I have the time.

Curiouser and curiouser.

Anyone know if there has been any movement on this particle issue? I'm at the stage where I would like my money returned to me.

I finally found mine while logged into my old BSN account by going here:  https://points.biowa...kout/showOffers

It shows me options to buy more, even though they've been discontinued (right?)  which I find strange.

While I don't have any BW Points left (I bought just enough to get Legacy and Mark of the Assassin) I'd like to get another method to get the remaining DA2 DLCs without having to buy WB Points. Because I'd really like to get The Exiled Prince, but with it costing 560 BW Points, I wouldn't be able to use up the points I'd have to buy. I even tried to calculate which weapons packs I would have to buy, but because I'd like to get all of them, I'd probably would be stuck with some leftover points. =/

To better explain  what I mean:

I can buy either 800 BW Points (8.-€) or 1'600 BW Points (16.-€) in Origin.

The All-Class Item Pack I and II cost 400 BW points each, so I could just buy 800 points and be done, but because I still need The Exiled Prince I'd still need 560 points, which would me leave with 240 leftover points with no use for them. =/

You can buy 560 BW Points directly from http://social.bioware.com/

Truth be told I don't understand why there are no other method to obtain old DLCs. I unfortunately am already stuck with leftovers, but what about other players? If there are no plans to support BW Points, why there's no change in purchase method? Ugh...

:o ... THANK YOU!  :kissing:  <3 *bought the Exiled Prince* Now I only need the Item Packs~ *goes to buy 800 BW points over Origin*

Yeah, me neither. Idk but would it really be that hard to just change the method?

The cost to change it over would actually be substantial for EA/BW to change it. It would take a week of coding (multiple people: DB, back-end commerce, QA engineer, ui, web), art for web and UI, and QA testing and iteration for another 2-4 weeks. Add management, community support, tech support, and corporate communications and the costs are quite substantial.

Leaving it as it is costs them nothing and still allows them to sell the dlc.
