So I'm just going to copy + paste what I said in another thread over here:

"I played it last night as soon as I got home and really enjoyed the DLC. I don't know if it was worth $15, but coming from EA I'm not sure why the price tag would be a surprise. The area is absolutely gorgeous and I found the Avaar really interesting, plus the new loot/crafting materials are pretty wicked. I also enjoyed that PARTY BANTER ACTUALLY WORKS in the DLC area, so I finally got hear a ton of banter from my normally mute party.

I will be honest though and say that if you don't enjoy the aspect of Inquisition that involves exploring new areas and doing quests "just because", then this DLC is probably not for you"

I noticed that as well. I also loved that they actually comment on what's happening. I also like the new materials because I don't have to rely solely on dragon materials to craft tier 4 items. EDIT: I do understand those who weren't satisfied.

Worth is subjective. Would I find worth in this for $15? Yes.

Is EA over pricing DLC and milking it's customers because they know we will buy it? Yes.

Two different things. I'm happy for more content. Is $15 a lot of money or a hard ship for me? No, but it is for some people. Would they have made just as much if not more if they charged $5 or $10 for it? Probably, while having a larger percent of the fan base actually purchase it.

yeah if it was five or even ten I would be like "Oh Shiny!"

Oh, the DLC is on Origin now.

Costs 45 PLN in Poland, which is equivalent to 12 USD, by today's dollar price.

Slightly cheaper then, but still a bit expensive for just another zone. Although the lore and story sounds quite interesting.

I'll probably buy it, but maybe not know, as I'm a little short on money. Maybe they'll make a bundle with some future DLC, and I'll buy a complete pack. I'm in the middle of my second playthrough, so I'm hardly out of content in the base game  at the moment.

More fetch quests?

I'll pass until we get some quality side quests like DAO.

tumblr_inline_mmjeehadvn1qz4rgp.gif

Side quests in DA:O were atrocious. Please, no more finding random people/items in random locations all around the world map. You know, like Irregulars, Mages Collective, Chantry Board, Denerim Underground...

That's an quarter of a game's price. While not expensive on it's own, it's an really steep price for an side quest DLC.

a quarter of the price for 5%  of the gameplay time (took 5 hours to play thru according to the review). Now ,to be fair, DAI itself is an EXCELLENT value : over 100 hours of gameplay for $50. Even though some of that time (5 to 10%) is padding due to maze like map layout stretching out repeat visits for "fetch" quests, it is still a lot of gameplay for the money.

DLC at 6X the price/hour, however, is NOT a good deal

Why should they? Apologists in this thread demonstrate you can just take 10% of your game, chop it up into a few DLC packs, and thereby double the price they can charge you?

It's not hard to understand sunk cost fallacy - you already paid $60 for a 100h (per one inquisitor playthrough) game, so paying another $15 for an extra 5h of gameplay makes total sense if that is the only way you can get the full experience.

As they say - "there is one born every minute"

So does the content in the DLC attribute to any of the value at all?

What are we getting realistically here?

New area, size of the Hinterlands it seems.

Some new party banter.

A major side-quest mission with some cutscenes added to it.

A new dragon to fight.

Weapon schematics.

War Table missions.

New crafting materials.

New enemies and easter eggs.

Several side-quests or continuations of side-quests.

I guess the question I have is all of that worth $15 bucks?

This advice was more for people who dont mindlessly throw money at things because of whats written on the title. Sadly, EA loves customers like you and this is probably why the DLC isnt that good to begin with.

This is a review from a dragon age fan to other dragon ages fans. Nothing more.

DLC? sounds more like cut content to me.

Omg, it's kinda pathetic how people whine about 15$ (it's probably gonna be about 13 euro or so here in Europe since it's £10), yet they spend the same or more daily for way worse things (booze, cigarettes, anyone?).
If you don't wanna buy it don't buy it. Simple as that. No need to make a post to whine about it. To each their own.

yeah, so make a post to whine about people whining about the price

Which is a very subjective question.

The title of the thread is, as often on BSN, opinion stated as fact.

Whether it is actually overpriced and/or worth buying depends on:

  • one's personal disposable funds,
  • it depends on whether you liked DAI and
  • whether the DLC is representative (a good example) of game content.

For some people it is and for some people it isn't

and so arguing about it is essentially meaningless as it is very much a personal call.

I've abandoned my own play-through for a time (to seriously level up) because

Spoiler

See, I think that is the point.

In another thread you have folks saying it's the people buying into the DLC being the reason it's $15 because it has "little or no value" in the end.

Yet here we are, people on all sides saying it's worth it or it's not. Mileage varies...why is that hard to understand?

Good luck with that

AFAIK , all the ME2 and ME3 DLCs are still the original (high) price

IF you can even find a way to buy them!!!! hahahahahaha try it and see. Bioware/EA/Origin is PATHETIC!!!!!

Clearly, booze and smokes are the optimal choices in this scenario.

To be honest, it's kinda ridiculous that people make such a big deal out of $15, while playing their $60+ game on their couple of hundred bucks consoles or over a $1000 dollar PCs.

If spending $15 drives you nuts, I'd advise picking a different hobby.

I think you're being a little short sighted if you think the problem people have with the price tag are that they are miserly or broke, even if that is the case in some comments.  The issue is where is the line drawn, I think.  What are the standards for what to price something versus what/how much content you get and is it price 'fair' or not.  I'm not saying if this is worth the price or not--I haven't played it yet--but I think it's valid for consumers to question and bring up issues with the prices and value of what they are purchasing.

If you keep saying 'it's not that much!' every step of the way, you're going to 'not-that-much!' your way into higher-prices DLC and micro transactions, you know?   I just think 'it's not that much!" is such a hand-waiving sort of thing to say, I guess.

You're completely right.

But people are acting like the $15 is a crime. If a person doesn't like it, don't buy. Don't go all nuts like some people and act like they should've set a different price so that it would've been acceptable to their liking.

This is perfectly reasonable:

But the whole acting of being a victim of some merciless company out there to force you to dip into the fortune of $15 is just ridiculous.

Since it's on Origin in human money rather than Bioware points, there may be more hope of it going on sale for PC.  Though it'll take a hefty sale to get me interested

IIRC, the DLC does go on sale for consoles occasionally?

Because there are no sales at the moment. There were though, i bought mine with 70% sale.

And thanks to politics, rubble now is in a crappy state(its 58 rubbles in 1 dollar), im sure as hell waiting for sales. Not like im very impatient, this game wasnt as much fun as i expected.

That was what i was hoping for. Sadly if that's not there i'll be making the rare decision of not buying a Bioware DLC as the last thing i want is more bad grind and fetch.

While I actually was fine with the main game, I don't think the base content is that repayable. For anyone who replays the game I can't say that there's any notable new content worth the sum charged. But of course that's a YMMV.
