For me $15.00 is not a lot of money. But since you asked:
Stripper
Smokes
Booze
Food
Gas
A few Bills

Oh, but you have to remember that these are imported electrons, so they attract the Australia Tax.
Yeah, transporting those electrons across the Pacific costs money, after all...

The most compelling argument I've heard for the Straya tax (and, I'm warning you, it's not very compelling) is that artificially inflating prices allows physical retailers to employ workers, which is good for the economy etc.
But, is DA DLC even something that gets to a physical state? I don't recall seeing DAO or DA2 DLC in boxes.
Edit: I mean. Like. D and L. My C.

Well, this DLC is completely 100% overpriced for me. As an Aussie they are charging me $25 for this, when it cost's $15 US. Thing is, based on the current exchange rate $15 US = $18.40 Au... so where does the other $6.60 come from? It's plain and simple price gouging of Aussies. Yes we have 10% gST... but that only makes it $20.20... so still a $5 ripoff.
As for the "What you can buy for $x" argument. I'd advocate that's not really a good argument, unless you compare it to other DLC's available for other game. Good example to compare to is the $15 DLC available for ME2 & 3 for instance - that would be viable references imo, because you can equate time spent playing the dlc, story content, character interaction, etc on an equal footing.
Firky - the "Aussie Tax" comes down to 2 basic reason'a:
A - They have done it for ages and Aussies have generally just accepted it. They have had little option in the past, although that is past now. Oh, and our Gov has never done anything realistic about trying to help Aussie consumers (irrespective of which side is in power, and how much we protest, beg, write letters, etc to them).
B - under the table deal's with EBGames (Gamestop) to keep digitial prices as high as physical stores, due to the fact most console sales are still made via physical disc... thus physical store can threaten publisher to not stock / not stock prominently / not advertise / etc console games from said publisher... and since the console market is where publisher's make most of their money, they give in to these threats/blackmail and keep digital prices high.
However, as you said, this is DLC that's not even available via physical stores. So this price gouging is due to A - because they have done so for years, because they can & because they believe we can't do anything about it... so why not jack the price up to profiteer even more off the Aussie customer's they have?
Well, this is 1 DLC I'll be waiting to get on sale or part of a pack... when it'll be decently priced and not a total ripoff - considering from what I've read it's 2-5 hours long and is just a big wide area with lots of fetch filler quest's... nah, no thnx.

My currency is Brazilian Real, U$15 is about BRL$47,25 (covers half my water bill for the month, or I can buy a good T-Shirt with it... or even lunch for two at the restaurant :3)
Fortunately for us here in Brazil, it costs R$29,90 (US$9.56 today). Coincidentally, yesterday I spent the same amount in a fancy cafe. I'm still playing the DLC (played for about 6 hours already... I'm a completionist) and enjoying.
Money well spent for me!

I bought the DLC for 9,99$ in Origin Mexico. And from the trailer, I already knew what it would bring (around 2-3 hours depend on how you play it, fetch quests, small cutscenes and the story may a little bit good). I just accepted it and decided to buy it. And I can't wait for more DLCs in the future but I hope for "expansion" because its contents more worth than DLCs.

GST is irrelevant since I don't think they have to pay it and the $15USD includes their consumption tax.

Yes I paid $25 (NZD) for it and yes I am happy with that $25 spent. I've gotten 10 hours so far on it. I've paid more than that for my partner and I to go to the movies and that's only 3 hours, heck I've spent more on things I've only used once.

I know - neither GST or Import tax applies. I mentioned it because inevitably someone mention's that we have GST or blames the price gouging on taxes imposed by the Aussie gov. So mentioned GST to head that sillyness right from the start.

I would say this DLC comes as overpriced because content=/=money. This is almost priced as Dragon Age: Awakening and that was a FULL expansion. Not to mention how it was released, under strange circumstances, the Black Emporium is not included, game is still buggy etc etc... just, no.
I would be paying 10euro tops for this, 15eur is pushing it.

Next you'll be revealing that hairdressers charge women more than men. This is truely an outrage!Yeah, transporting those electrons across the Pacific costs money, after all...
On a more serious note, businesses price-discriminate any time they can (for example, they can charge more overseas because moving to the U.S. to get cheaper games isn't a realistic option). Normally this is limited by arbitrage opportunities (if you charge people 10x in the US enterprnours will buy cheap Canadian goods and import them into the U.S., making a huge profit and cheaper goods available to the consumer... Unless the government imposes import taxes like they have done with sugar)

I got so sick of paying women's prices for a man's haircut, my husband now shaves my head for me with his clippers for free.
I dunno what the comparison is. Get my husband to write DA fan fiction for me to read?

hmmm converting the values... the DLC cost me 10 bucks. Hehe nice!
Which leaves me 5 bucks which is enough for... :converts: coffee and a sandwich!
that's because our currency isn't worth **** anymore
but at least that's there's always a silver lining.

"Almost priced"? Not really. Awakening is still priced at $39.99 usd, at least that's the price for it on the main menu of dao/psn.

I don't think $15 is too much, per se... I didn't like dai but the difficulty of the dlc is what is pulling me to play it - not enough of a compelling reason. Though, once it is out for my system (ps3) and it drops to $5, I will get it. I decided to get something more worth my money, Kingdom Hearts 3D for $30. ![]()

I'm just perusing the PS store, and Awakening is actually $19.99. Still, that's kind of an odd price, because that's the same exact price as Origins itself. Makes me really glad that I bought Origins Ultimate Edition from my local Gamestop for $14.99.

15 American Dollars is equal to 55 Malaysian Ringgit.
With 55 Malaysian Ringgit, I can eat comfortably for a whole week.
Or buy 3 movie tickets and a McDonalds' meal.
Or do my grocery shopping with spare change for a basic ice cream.
Or use it to top up the monorail card system which we use to get around, for a month.
Or buy a bus ticket that can take me from the south in Johore, all the way up to the capital Kuala Lumpur, with leftover change.
15 USD is quite a lot from where I come from.

Yeah.. $25 AUD off origin.. nope.. not after the full game cost me what.. $90 AUD for Digital delux at launch.. Especially since the game felt like I was beta testing the bloody thing.. $5 at most.. I would pay for it.. even then I would rather it be free.

But do you pay the conversion rate of $15 in Malaysia? Cause I highly doubt that. I, for instance, pay more than what the conversion rate would suggest ($15 is not €15)
Usually things are a lot cheaper in countries where people have less money to spend (an international NBA League Pass, for instance, costs waaaaaaaaay less if you buy it from Romania, instead of from the UK or the Netherlands)
To eat here for an entire week I'd need way more than $15. 15 dollar would last me like... 3 days. If I went for uber cheap, disgusting food.
