Well, I see that everyone has different tastes, which is why I don't clock people for not liking the current cast or loving the old ones.

I just hate everyone in my party but Cassandra and Dorian, well, and Varric but they've neutered the dialogue with him to the point where he could leave and I'd be fine.

Its why I don't understand the people who don't adore Cassandra because she's a stand out, but at the same time...there are people who don't understand why I can't get it up for Solas or Bull.

I don't mean it taste-wise, but they are just overused in the universe. Leliana is in every DA game and book and had DLC. Alistair is in every game and has his own comic series. Morrigan is in DAO and DAI and has her own DLC, she was in Last Court as well. Enough is enough, Bioware should move on to other characters ^^;

Oh I see, and again that's a matter of taste.  I like keeping my old "friends".  I don't like reboots, I don't like recasting, I don't like feeling like this is a different Thedas.  I guess that's why I'll wait before I buy another Bioware until I can read the whole synopsis.

But some people like moving on...just not me.

This company is very savvy about where it fits into the RPG world, who it's customers are, and gives them what they need to keep them buying the product.

I think Bioware should focus on finishing the Black Emporium and making other story DLC's instead of 5 minute romance scenes.

It's moving forward but we still have Cullen, Leliana, and Morrigan you just can't romance them...why?

What does it hurt if the fans like/love them?

The only one of those three that I felt should have been back in a large way was Cullen, only because he seemed to be building towards that. From a small role in DA:O to a fixed point in DA2, with the mage/templar war breaking out, it seemed like that would have been a perfect opportunity to bring him in as a party member, especially if the whole game was about the war, which honestly, I think it should have been as Inquisition seems to be way to big for it's Breaches.

Leliana could have just been a cameo either before or after the Conclave, and Morrigan's role fit, just not in inquisition. Her role should have been saved for an Awakening style expansion, along with more exposition on the elves and a chase for Solas and another artifact or something. As I said, Inquisition was just way to big, with not very fully developed plot points. It should have been what the cancelled DA2 DLC was going to be, which was an Exalted March. Then you could have a more focused reason to be doing the things you were doing. Something like this:

Background origin story-->missions as part of the army of the Divine headed to Kirkwall (as a human), missions as a mercenary working for the army (as qunari), a dalish clan trying to sabotage the effort, or a dwarf...doing stuff for the Carta? (I can't think of anything there). origin related side quests at conclave-->conclave explodes (no Mark, no Cory)-->Inquisitor survives and returns to Haven-->Cassandra/Lelianna form Inquisition. The game would be about trying to stop the war, with Champions of the Just and In Hushed Whispers being tweaked accordingly. (I have some ideas, but I'm going to try and stay on topic as much as possible).

I suppose.

I read this article/interview of Noel Gallagher of Oasis where he explains why his music is **** now, and basically he said it's because he's rich and has toured the world.  He said that really raw and timeless creativity can only come from the hungry or those about to leave something they love.

I think Gaider's best work was his early work and Dorian.  One was him hungry and the other was him knowing he was going to go.

I don't think the other writers have his "touch" and while I think our characters are all cool and everything, there is no "Morrigan" in the new group and there's no cute and awkward Alastair.  I think they were trying to make Josephine that.  I think she's cute but she also doesn't have his...I really don't even have the word for it.

I can see why someone wants Morrigan and the old Leliana back because there was a freshness to Leliana and Morrigan was so awful and interesting and touching that you wanted more, more, more.

Very true. I was really sad to see Gaider go. Weekes is pretty good, but it's Gaider's baby.

I really liked many of the characters in DA2 and DAI, but it's true that none have ever topped the "big three" original companions. They will always be my favourites, and for a large number of other players as well I expect.

That said, out of the three of them the only one who seems justifiable for further appearances in games is Morrigan. Even with that said, I'd want to see it done properly and not just for the sake of it. Leliana's role has been great and very enjoyable especially in the Extended Universe, but even I struggle to see further justification for her having a large involvement going forward.

Dragon Age has always been different to Mass Effect in that it's about a world, not a central protagonist. In that sense, changing the cast fits. However, I'd probably say I'm overall more invested in the ME companions because it spans three games and revolves around Shep. I think the trick is making us love the newer characters as much as we did Alistair, Morrigan and Leliana. I think DA2 succeeded better there than Inquisition. The relationships between them and Hawke, and each other, were very well done. Cassandra and Dorian are the only ones who come close for me from DAI. Varric does by virtue of him being so integral to DA2.

Mind you, I struggle to bond with my Inquisitor to the same extent as the Warden and Hawke as well. Inquisition has great moments, but I sometimes wish a little less effort went into the new things like semi open world and more went into they excel at - story and characters. :(

Different strokes for different folks around here! I am one of the few who is meh on Morrigan, and Varric. On the other hand I love Vivienne. I just wish they had made her bite as bad as her bark. It just seems like in this game if you weren't Cassandra or Solas, then you weren't a true companion. As many have said, even Varric is ho-hum in this one.

Bioware has recycled some characters, but I think it would be boring to always have same in the game.

Also I have had my dose of Morrigan, Leliana and Alistair already, they are the bunch I hope not to see again.

well I can see why you don't want to see Alistar, I didn't want to see him starting in DAO after we left Flemeths hut, but DA and ME is great cos you meet same characters in all games. That's what making it so great. If there weren't no similarities it would hardly be DA2 or DAI. It would be three similar, but independent games. what's the point of making a rpg trilogy if you don't meet same characters?

Your opinion differs from mine. FLAAAAAAAAME!!!! ;)

I wish there was more interaction between the companions themselves, too, like the little scenes in DA2. They didn't seem to have much of a relationship with each other either in Inquisition. Varric and Isabela doted on Merrill and looked out for her. Varric was close with Anders. Isabela and Aveline's antagonistic friendship was one of the best things about the game IMO. I had real "d'awww!!" feels when Aveline told the Arishok to shove it when he wanted to take Bela. :)

Having it set in the same world? The world is bigger than any one person (or plucky adventurer group for that matter). I think if you're going to change the protagonist every game, then change all the characters, make the world feel bigger. Sure, reference major events from before, but leave them be. I think the only series that does this in any form might be American Horror Story, but I could be wrong, as I've never watched it, just going by what I've gleaned from brief readings.

Yes, but we see teams progress in movies or shows all the time without separating.  The Scooby Gang...the A Team...the Avengers...etc

But that's the thing, it's always an illusion of progression. Especially in comic books and related material, there are just certain things that fans cannot fathom changing, and that to me stifles a lot of stories, because either the stories flat out don't happen, or they have to be timey wimey'd back into the "norm". For instance Batman must ALWAYS be Bruce Wayne, even though it should be impossible considering that he's had multiple Robins all grow up under him, yet he remains the same age?

Okay here's where I am then...don't care about progression as much as i care about hanging out with my in game friends.  I don't care if Scooby, Shag, and Velma are 50 years old but still look like they're in high school, I would rather be with them than new people.

We're all different tho.

And that would be totally cool, it the games weren't moving forward in time. If they never mentioned the age, or year or whatever, and just said "Here's our world, go play" Unfortunately, they have decided to move forward every game, meaning eventually, old characters shouldn't appear anymore.

If they can fix the PC crashing problems and expand Skyhold's own progression I'm down with more romantic development. Otherwise it's just quests, quests, and more bugs!

We have different place and different PC. It doesn't really make sense you see these 3 characters same time, while other characters sit in DA dungeon. Enough with this trio, I don't want to see any of them again.

Wow thank you all for the replies.

Since I play on PC I will search about these bugs you mention. So far the biggest problem I have had is the installation, it was very finicky, but I realized at some point it was because I had Origin running in XP compatibilty mode (a side effect from my - failed - attempt to get Mass Effect 1 to work...).

Also I have had a strange slowdown during combat but once I got through the combat zone (one sequence took at least an hour in slowmow!), the regular speed resumed. I suppose it is the result of a programming bug.

Once I complete my first play through, I will create a female character to approach the game (and Sera!) from another angle.

I'm actually rather glad they brought Leliana back for this game. She really redeemed herself for me this time around and went from one of my absolute least favorites to someone more middle of the pack. (I happen to find every companion in DAO intolerable with the exceptions of Alistair, Morrigan, and Zevran.) Cullen's return for a similar success. Although he was only a minor/supporting character before, I absolutely loathed him, yet he ended up being a favorite of mine in DAI. Morrigan's part in DAI didn't really change my opinion of her for better or worse, and the same thing with Varric (although he was never someone I loved or loathed before).

DA is not trilogy. DA team said several times, its about world. Each game new protagonist, new companions. But it doesn't feel like it. I can't beleave I say this before  I played DA:I but Varric is boring. I know him from DA:2 he have not much new to say and a lot off brooding from Fenris stick on Varric.

I don't agree with you often, but you hit the nail on the head here.  The devs have stressed time and time again that this isn't a trilogy.  Last I heard, which was a few years ago, they have at least up to DA5 planned out.

http://www.examiner....ls-and-spoilers

They also stressed that this game isn't wrapping up anything, merely the stepping stone to the next game.

Thank you for being a good example of those who offer feedback on the romances.
