Honestly, that's just bad. I mean the main menu wasn't that great but at least it was something nice to look at. Now it's permantely replaced with a poster to let me know that I should buy the new DLC today.

Wow, what's next? Changing the title music to spot that repeats endlessy? Did I buy I freemium game or did I buy a $60 full price game?

It's okay to have some sort of news ticker (like it was done for the multiplayer events and every other Bioware game since ME2).

If you really undertook the effort to change the background animation to something resembling the new dlc, that would be something different, this here is just blatantly rude.

The DLC only just came out today, just give it a few days and it will most likely be gone. It's not like changing the title screen ruins the game or anything. Why does everyone on this forum only seem to complain?

Where have you been? They've been infecting it weekly with dumb notices for multiplayer at least since December.

It's intrusive and looks like trash. Marketing must be responsible.

It isn't like the launcher for DAO advertises the Witch Hunt DLC, or like the main screen for DA2 advertises ME3.

At this rate, people will be complaining that the grass isn't green enough (or worse, that's it's too green).

No, I was serious. I've never been to the Witcher forums.

.... Is that a thing there?

There was some recent torch and pitchfork business going on when it came out that the grass effects had been reduced so that consoles could be accommodated for. Or so the mob cries.

And people wonder why I tend to think PC gamers are a bunch of whiny, overgrown manchildren who complain about literally anything.

I say this as someone who plays games far more on PC than I do on my Xbox.

In their defense, CDPR bragged even just a few months ago about how the graphics were so good that each individual blade of grass was animated and could blow in the wind. Now that is no longer true due to no other reason than consoles.

I'm not a PC elitist and CERTAINLY no graphics pr0n guy, but when you make statements abor a game that don't become true and the only reason why is someone else using a different system, it can be... frustrating, I suppose?

Don't build up something that has the potential to fall down, is what I say.

It's not the consoles' fault that CDPR decided to hype something they could not conceivably EVER deliver on. That'd be like someone promising you a brand new Lamorghini and your own private island, and then being surprised and disappointed when you don't actually get these things.

Also, buy Varric's book.

If they had Varric pitch the DLC as the load screen, I might actually buy it. Especially if Cassandra was distracted the way she was in that nomination video.

We have to think of the positives, people.

It can't be as bad as that pop up message from Bioware asking us to buy dlc after the ME3 ending. That was admittedly hilarious.

The last Witcher thread debating the grass and other 'downgrades' closed at around 200 pages, and there was another one before that.

Amusingly, some of the upset in the thread was that the latest gameplay didn't look like HD cinematics made into real time gameplay, as people thought (or felt they were led to believe it would), but actually looked a lot like Dragon Age :D

(Imagine that, two 3rd person fantasy RPGs on similar platforms launching around the same time looking alike, how could they?  )

:)

Back on topic, many players don't visit forums or indeed game sites.

A home screen reminder of new DLC or multiplayer events is perfectly reasonable and hardly rude or 'infecting' the home screen.

People access the home screen for what, 5 seconds on the way to SP or MP play?

They could make it optional, or at least dismissable, that'd be better.

I think that commercials within the merchandise is wrong.

I don't boy commercials. I buy a product. If commercials are to infest the main item it's way out of hand.

I don't pay for commercials. I hate commercials. It's litterally a damn pest.

Good one.

A proposal for a 'got it, thanks' button is a much more constructive suggestion than an annoyed 'it's rude' complaint.

Though that might be very easy to code or indeed not very easy, don't know.

Still not sure how big a deal this is...

We should have had the return of Levi Dryden to sell us DLC in-game. That always goes down well.

I'd rather have it on the main menu, than getting a pop-up in-game telling me that I need to buy a DLC in order to finish the quest

Oh gods, the first time I saw that, I'll admit that I was rather unhappy.  I thought that was a good idea in theory, but horrible in practice.  Nothing like picking up a quest and being told, "Sorry, you got to pay $5 to do this.  Go to our site to purchase."  Granted, that did turn out to be worth it to me, since that story was really good and it directly answered the question as to why the Wardens were exiled a couple of hundred years ago.  Still, that's a method of encouraging a DLC that should never come back.

I agree. It was a good DLC, but an utterly obnoxious way of marketing it.
