The Atari control I had looked like a slice of cake, it had a joystick at the top with 2 red buttons on each side, and a number pad on the bottom half.  I forgot what model it was but I'm sure I can just google it and find out.  The system itself had a compartment where you could stash the controllers I remember that.

Some of that sounds familiar but I'm pretty sure the controllers didn't have number pads. Still, it's nearly 30 years since I last saw it and my memory is known to be hazy, so it could very well be that same.

Heh, similar thing here. When my second cousin (male) realized I was a gamer, too, it blew his mind (apparently, the "women don't game" thing is still alive and strong even in his millennial generation) and now every family party, here's this 14-year-old kid talking gaming with me, asking my opinion on this game or that system. Been happening now since he was around 12 or so. So, imagine this scene: 14-year-old and 30-year-old geeking out about gaming while his 40-year-old parents roll their eyes.

Bless.

teenager, I was listening to swing and big bands of the 30's and 40's. Imagine my delight playing Fallout 3 for the first time and turning on Galaxy News Radio. Ah! Bliss!

hah! Both of my brothers are in their 60's so they understand my eccentricities, including middle-aged gaming. I think they might have been a little perturbed that I managed to pass those on to their kids, though. Still, it's been cool to have that connection with the girls...well, ladies now.

*sigh* Time's a ******.

That's the 7800, and isn't a real Atari.

Ah, i skipped the bit about the number pad, sorry. This is actually much worse. You ought to be ashamed.

At the time I was a dirt poor kid and lucky to even have a system. i enjoyed the couple of games I had for it until my mom managed to buy an NES.

My step brother was d&d gamer. I thought it was amazing and he gave me his old stuff when he stopped, but didn't really have anyone to play with.

I would love to write, but I never get left alone. Literally. I got mithered twice writing this.

I was comparing them to the almighty 2600, and wasn't being serious in any way.

After a lot of googling I think mine was either this one or at least some version of it. The buttons on the console don't seem familiar and the colors on the device don't match either but other than that it's really close.

Not sure but I think it might have had four controllers.

I had another Atari that looked like a computer. It had a keyboard at the base.  My dad randomly showed up at my house with this system. It came with a bunch of games, like 20 games. I was so excited but I never got to play it. We were in the middle of moving and one of the moving guys stole it. That was very heart breaking.

I should try googling that one

Probably the Atari ST.

was something like this, and it had the standard joystick with one button.  I'm not sure if this was the exact model I had though, something seems different but this was the closest pic I could find.

Just wanted to say this thread has turned out really nice so far. Takes me back to the ME3MP days where we occasionally had "getting to know your fellow gamer" type of threads that were technically off-topic, but they slid since they were largely pleasant and presenting no harm.

Hopefully I didn't just jinx the hell out of it.

I liked those threads. Even if they did degenerate into commenting on how hot people's pics were..

36 and used to having to tell people to vacate the strip of grass in front of my residence. So this thread is pretty refreshing.

Gaming background: First machine I remember playing at home was a Phillips knockoff of Pong (it had 3 games, loosely sports themed but what made it "tennis" was just an extra bar down the middle pretending to be a net, but doing nothing). Found it in my parents' closet one day, seems they had it in there unusued for 10 years.
First real machine I owned was an Amiga 500 that I on paper shared with my brother. It was in my room, so you can imagine how that worked out for him.

The Snes was the first console I got to play on - ah the good old days of playing where friends would come over with a remote and one or two games

This thread is a giant missed opportunity for "I am 12 and what is this" btw.
