or I won't buy it. I have been playing this game since the launch day and I always planned to finish it right before Witcher 3. I will need at least a couple of weeks before that game comes out to play this dlc so Jaws of Hakkon better come out in a month on PS4. I hate this exclusivity bullsh*t. The game sold most copies on PS4 and it is really stupid to punish the majority of your costumers. You have one month Bioware...one month.

I wish I could somehow give away my access to it to someone who would play it. :( The thing I bought an Xbone for and I don't even want it.

The only way to stop these anti consumer practices is to do exactly that - not buy it on your platform. If it ends up  hurting the publisher more by accepting the exclusivity deal, they might think twice next time.

Haven't played it, so can't tell you if you're missing out on something awesome. Apparently it's more of the same though, so perhaps not.

I have a couple of thoughts on this:

1. I knew about the timed exclusive deal since E3 and I understand why Bioware or EA would take guarenteed money, business is business although it sucks for them that the PS4 is killing the XB1 on Sales. I don't get why MS would even go after a deal like this, DLC content is not a console seller, I don't get it ! - What does tick me off though is no timetable for the other platform. As a PS4 owner I gotta wait, I get it, for how long?...........well apparently we're not going to be told. Now that ticks me off. So EA/Bioware are going to withold information from their paying customers for a set amount of time and then turn around and expect them to shell out $15 to pay for story based DLC which they can watch on youtube.........Yep let's see how that works out for you !

Fact is I play Bioware games for the story, if I knew how long I had to wait I would most likely wait.....but regardless of what contracts are in place with MS the above is shoddy treatment of paying customers which I don't agree with. I'm a firm believer in "Voting with your wallet" and sadly it looks like that's what I'll have to do here.

2. The fact there is no mention of whether the DLC is going to come out on XB360 is simply vintage microsoft. I own a 360 (and a PS4, PS3, Wii U and Vita) but obviously got DAI on PS4, but I'm still a paying subscriber to Xbox Live. There is no contractual situation which is stopping MS from clarifying anything to do with the XB360, so the lack of information here is utterly insulting to owners of DAI on the XB360. If MS is going to treat the last gen in this way maybe those who have gone PS4, PC or not gone next gen should just cancel their Xbox Live then..........a classic return to form from MS

Regardless, I will be very interested to see the figures on this DLC once all is said and done, because ultimately that will determine deals like this being struck in the future !

That will only lead to bigger sums of money being paid for exclusivity deals, I think.

Sadly.

That may well be true but it will prompt companies such as MS to question whether what they are then getting is worth that money !

As it is I would imagine companies will be hiking up the prices on MS as it's a known fact that there is a higher playing base on the PS4 right now. 20 million consoles is a massive consumer base

I agree and personally I rather deal with exclusive DLC then exclusive games, for at least I have the base game to enjoy instead of getting the feeling of a game will really cost over $500 for I would need to buy both the console and the game such is what has just happened with Bloodborne.

Bloodborne is a bit different though, it's not like it was a game in development that Sony came along and said "We'll give you loads of money to just put it out on PS4"..............Sony approached From Software about making the game, funded it, published it and co-developed it. Sony actually own the Bloodborne name

It might with Sony, but with the deep pockets Microsoft can bring to the table with getting the limited exclusive rights to a Tomb Raider game I don't think paying a little more for exclusive DLC is going to concern them that much.  On top of that we really don't know if EA would ask for more money simply because of userbase now, since Sony declined to allow EA Access on their network and that will prompt more users to buy digitally on the XB1 giving EA a bigger profit margin on those sales.

I think it all depends on what the benefit to Microsoft is from exclusive DLC content, which I'm still not quite sure what that is. I mean I hardly think getting some dlc early is really going to move consoles, full exclusive games however certainly do. I suppose it's all relative, if the cost to having exclusive dlc exceeds the benefit that it brings, Microsoft and other companies will stop the practice

I still don't believe that is true. If someone of importance said it, not some nameless representative I would believe it. Then there is only one article saying it and other just referencing that one article. If it was an official position there would be other interviews. I expect it is one of those Microsoft deals or EA beta testing the service. It would explain why it only on Xbox and not on PC as well.

There is not much profit margin increase over retail. They have to paid for the bandwidth which is usually about the same as the retailer cut. Either way they make the same amount.

I have no idea.

The only thing I do know, if people really want to stretch with something quantitative, is that PS4 has usually been finishing DAIMP weekend challenges at a very rapid pace and before XBox One and PC, despite equal goals across those three platforms. However, all that really says is that the most populated platform for the MP side of this game that actively participates on the weekends is PS4.

The sad thing is that Bioware feels the backlash for a deal that they most likely had no control over. At this rate I will also skip this DLC since it seems to add nothing substantial to the game. Sadly EA backed the wrong horse this gen and I think the silent release of the DLC was a way to buffer that decision. The lack of fanfare shows that they may not want to direct too much attention that its available only on Xbox 1 and PC for now and even the DLC they chose as the premiere content baffles me.

I think they released this one so that more than likely the major story driven DLC pack which may

Spoiler
will be released across all platforms simultaneously. But again this is all speculation. What is clear from the response of PS4 owners is that Jaws of Hakkon will suffer.

I don't think I'd pay $15 for 1.5 GB  of content in the first place.  However, the decision to delay the release on PS4 guaranteed I won't be buying this DLC.

I understand your sentiment, but honestly the number of the most fervent forum members wishing to make a stand on principle will make no difference at all, in the scheme of things, to the number of DLCs sold or the number of 'console conversions/purchases' that Microsoft seeks.

By all means, make a purchase or not depending on your gaming preferences, but any principled 'non purchase' will not hurt the publisher in the slightest.

In fact, the reverse is true, because the more wildly successful a game is, the less likely it is that any sponsor would be able to justify the 'buy out' of anticipated lost sales from the platforms falling outside of the exclusion, next time. Nor would the game publisher be as tempted to hedge its revenue stream by the use of a sponsorship.

It is an official response from Sony to GameInformer when asking for the company's stance on why EA access wasn't available on the PS4.  It doesn't have to have an official representative come out on stage to make the statement.  If it was a Twitter response or "anonymous sources inside Sony tell us" then I can see skepticism, but this was Sony's official statement on the matter and these type of statements are generally vetted at multiple levels.

Then why not PC then? Most of the games are on PC as well. If it is just Sony saying no the service should be on PC which Is find strange, especially will the new love Microsoft is showing for PC. That statement reads like an excuse to cover an exclusive deal. They just can't say anything about it.

I will use new dlc as an example. Bioware can't talk about a PS4 release date but Sony who has to QA it would have an estimate but they say nothing where they could say it will be out in a month. Another example would be Rise of the Tomb Raider. Sony has said nothing about the exclusive deal, Microsoft said it is coming exclusive to Xbox this winter but you don't see Sony saying well you can play it on PS4 in March etc. It's just common curtsey.

Sony had to say something and with the usual PR making good out of a bad situation.

The thing is not most of the games are on the PC, for half of them are sports titles and the only sports franchise I know of that EA has on the PC anymore is the FIFA series and I am not sure about Peggle 2 being available on the PC either, so that eliminates five of the nine games they offer.  The also have the On The House Program and Great Game Guarantee which I don't believe apply to consoles.

The thing is with what you are talking about with Rise of the Tomb Raider and the DLC is that they might have non-disclosure agreements with publishers to keep how long an exclusive Microsoft has a secret for that is part of the agreement that Microsoft has with those developers/publishers.

The thing is they might have had to say something, but since it was an official statement it is still an official statement and if it was deliberately misleading it could be a problem for them.

I think it's less about Sony and the 360, and more about punishing those who didn't upgrade to the X1.  Financially, this won't touch Sony.  Others have suggested that MS probably compensated Bioware for the sales loss for the other consoles.  That leaves only ONE bit left in the tale:  consumers.  We basically get the finger for not ditching our current systems (or rival systems), and jumping to the newest Microsoft product.  Not to mention the fact that no one from Bioware seems to be able to actually SAY PS4/PS3/XBox 360.  They avoid even USING those names.  At what point in time did we actually get to the point where we could legally ban someone from using someone ELSES name?  Or even referencing them in some way?

Now, will I buy this DLC?  ASSUMING that it will ever come to a console/system that I have?  Sure, I probably will.  I love the series.  I REALLY, REALLY do.  However, I used to say that about Final Fantasy...all the way up to XIII.  I refuse to touch the series now.  Now it's a bunch of shonen fanfic writers who are obsessed with pretty boy gangsters.  Square used to be the top dog...now they are struggling.  THEY made a deal with MS as well...which will probably kill off the Tomb Raider series for good.

You know what they say...when you sup with the devil, use a long spoon.
