They didn't kill him for breathing nor did they kill him for anything at all. They unitentionally caused his death, there is a difference.

And he had killed his dad. Self defense but it proved he was dangerous.

His death may have been unintentional but they swept it under the rug.

Yes he did kill his dad in self defense, but he didn't use his magic. He used the same knife his father used to kill his mother. And anyone who has is being threatened with death is dangerous, mundane or mage.

They didn't killed Cole, the templar from his quest wrote criminal mage instead of mage on observation on his file, because of this he was forgotten and left to die.
He was very incompetent.

That isn't incompetence. That is murder.

Don't be absurd. Wearing templar armor or chantry robes clearly absolve you from any crime.

As opposed to mage robes?

No one is saying he should be absolved. But there is a difference between forgetting a kid without any malice and killing mages for breathing.

He was listed as a criminal and left to die. Plenty of malice their. Besides most templars are recruited because of their zealousness not for morality.

He was misfiled, the templar was new, the error was born out of inexperience and incompetence, not out of malice.

Remember how in the beginning of the book Cole speaks to a newly arrived mage that is in the dungeons.

And why is she in the dungeons? Because she locked her family inside their house nad set it on fire.

Obviously, dungeons on arrival is the procedure for mages who have proved themselves dangerous before they came to the Circle.

Since Cole killed his father, one can only conclude that was why he was in the dungeons in the first place, exactly as procedure dictated.

Do you think that spec ops are formed out of moral people, by any chance?

How come I don't see you saying these things when a mage is the one that screws up and accidentaly cause trouble?

So because he was put in the dungeon for killing his father, in self-defense, Cole deserved to slowly die of starvation and dehydration. And that makes it okay to have pretty much the whole templar order made up of people who whole heartily believe that mages are evil and need to die.

Mages are evil and  don't deserve to be defended.

If a mage screws up without intention its because he is inexperienced or/and incompetent, still he is responsible for his mistakes, just like the templar who screwed Cole.

Negligent manslaughter would be the simplest charge, but then he wound up in a conspiracy to conceal a homicide, which is pretty damn bad itself.

And that's exactly why spec ops troops aren't put in charge of guarding and policing prisons/quarantine wards where people will be living the rest of their lives. Police are not military.

Maybe not all Mages need to die but there is a lot of de-humanization of Mages that leads to negligence that kill Mages like Cole killed or abuses of power like Ser Alrik or Ser Karras.

You can always pass this off as being one of those bits of history that stayed suppressed.

Quite likely given he revered the Maker alongside the Creators, served the Chantry, and was bffs with the first emperor of hated Orlais.

They might not be in the USA, but there are countries with military policies.

Really? It sounded like you were forgiving the templar and making excuses for him. Not saying he needed to be held accountable for what he did.

Worded like that, it does make me wonder if hardline, human racist Elves would see Ameridan as a 'race traitor.'

I...literally said nothing of that.

Like absolutely nothing at all. You're just inventing other people's arguments.
