While OP is probably being so sarcastic he sounds real, modding doesn't compete with DLCs. Hell, some mods even encourage DLC sales. Look at Skyrim - how many great mods out there need Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLCs to function? Some even require Hearthfire, which is a mod people generally overlook. Mods and DLCs can work together, but for some reason, corpoations think mods are bad. smh.

The next Unreal is actually going to use user-created content as it's monetary system. That's right, a free-to-play game based off modding. Like Dota2. Granted, the mods are rather specific (eg: alternate skins), but it's still technically a mod.

They patched out the mods because it was the fair thing to do. Modders tend to be arrogant and rude against console players and most of the times disrespect artists from BioWare by whitewashing some characters or changing their appearances completely. I stand with BioWare with this one.

Maybe you don't agree with me on the magnitude of the effect but you can't honestly believe it has no effect. Can you?

You are right.  They do have an effect!

Why as soon as I learned about mods, I went out and bought TWO versions of all my favorite games.  Wow.... I wonder if the Devs understand how much money they stand to gain from unsuspecting people like me.  :)

Skyrim.... DAO.... DAII.... DA: I.... yep.... How horrible.  When they ban mods, I can just save my money and take the grandchildren out to watch the BSN instead.  It will be fun.  :P

Appearances mods and lore breaking mods are the ones I despise the most. Sure I'm not playing them, but whenever people post their screenshots about their sex-ed up Aveline or Merrill, I feel like slapping them hard with a big stinky fish.

Oh my God, I know how you feel. I try not to let that outrageous crap ruin my pure, non lore-breaking modding experiences. But, it is admittedly difficult to just sit back and tolerate it.

That seems kind of stressful.  When I see a mod I don't like, I usually just pass on by.

I'm just a big fan of Aveline Vallen the way she is originally. Same for Cassandra.

*shrugs* You can feel however you want about mods.  To be fair, you're only singling out the "controversial" ones to make a point, but hey- I don't really care to argue over it.

There are mods I don't care for, so I don't download them.  I've found some very disturbing mods for other games (*cough*Skyrim*cough*), and I avoid them.

As am I. Some modders are dicks. Certain microcosms of the TES modding community are nightmarish. But if I wrote something off just because a bunch of dicks liked it too... I wouldn't be playing Bioware games. Or doing anything at all.

Modding support unequivocally improves games. DAO in particular is a better game because of it.

Mods that act like patches to fix bugs though aren't that bad. What I'm strictly against are appearances mods that disrespect characters, plus the lore-breaking stuff. I guess I'm okay with something like the tactical cam extension someone made. Anything beyond that is just... meh...

I like mods if i didn't have The Ties that Bind Mod for Fallout 3 i wouldn't be playing to this day a game that's 7 years old and i still play it like it's new, but i also bought all the DLC. Why? Because some Mods REQUIRE certain or all DLC.

Personally, I preferred the vanilla experience to DAO with all the DLCs, to be honest. Once, I saw someone playing a playthrough where they recruited the lady of the forest and was like: "WTF?!"

Banning Mods make no sense?  Its like banning fan-fiction and cos-players, ignore what you don't like. B)

The DAO mods most important to me are the ones that add the gorgeous Warden armors from DA2 and the ones that make it more convenient in realistic ways. Personally, with the crappy armor and models in Origins, I find it far less playable without the ports. Commander Aedan likes to be stylish and he likes his Wardens to be just as stylish as him.

Edit: Speaking of the Warden armors from DA2, my kingdom for someone to figure out a way to port the original armors to DAI and replace DAI's godawful Warden armors.

Edit2: Servo, you just reminded me that my Origin username is an MST3k character. Keep on rockin', MSTie! B)

Whatever people, I still believe modding is wrong in an RPG.

I deny that the concept of right or wrong applies to this topic.

Mm...I dunno. I like the little aesthetic things you can get with mods that the devs might overlook as not being appealing enough to a wide range of the fan base. Like hair in Origins is alright, and for those who don't particularly care, irrelevant. But if you wanted more hair, you wouldn't be getting it from the devs. Mods is one answer to that little problem.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but your post is ridiculous. Mods add to games so much. If Bioware decided to make all their future games absolutely unmoddable I would just never buy them, period. Modding is just too much fun for me. I'm sure some people don't care about having that level of customization, but it's my right as a customer to have an opinion on such practices and to spend my money elsewhere if the company decides to have what I perceive to be an abysmal attitude toward customer satisfaction.

You know what I believe is wrong in an RPG? Having every character walking around looking exactly the same in the same beige pajamas at Skyhold. With mods I can match my outfit to my character's personality. I decided to make a necromancer character and I added a nice black lacy pattern for my female character. That improves my role-playing experience, no matter how small the detail.

Three words: Extra Dog Slot.

Good modders are a bunch of crafty and patient people that have added depth to features that were not quite finished due to time or money constraints. David Gaider personally contributed to mods in BG, and I still play IWD with modded-in companions. Mods honor a game dev's creation much more than they are ignoring them.

I'm curious, when you say you are against it do you mean you wish people wouldn't do it or that you think they shouldn't be allowed to? I'm of the opinion that people can do whatever they feel like with their copy of a SP game. That isn't to say that I might not find what they are doing creepy, or weird or disagreeable but that's just too bad for me.

I love that mod. And yes, present tense, cause I still have it.

Three more words: Skip the Fade : the only bit in DA:O I detest. I did it in full for all my character origins, but when playing through fro the lolz/getting the perfect game to carry over into DA2:nae chance.

Which reminds me, I need to do a playthrough where Alistair squirms on meeting Isabela in DA2, cause reasons...
