Yeah, that was totally directed at the OP. I wasn't about to read this entire thread nor really keep up with it. I personally stand by I don't really care what people do in their own games it doesn't affect me in the least. Definitely staying out of the other stuff. No thanks. :)

Agreed.  Also, if you want a fun DA:I thread, the "What did you do today" thread in Story and Lore has a lot of good people in it.  Several of them embraced me as a new ME fan last year, and made it fun to hang out in the ME forums.  If you want something more positive, I'd go there.  :)

Look at all the people who won't buy the DLC because their mods don't work. Ban all mods, problem soved

So yeah, look at all those people. What is your problem with people who don't buy the DLC?

What about the people who won't buy the DLC because of a review they read? Should we ban reviews?

What about the people who won't buy the DLC because they don't have the money? Will you buy them a copy?

Or do you get a commission for each sale?

The OP was being sarcastic.

Given that the OP posted several comments afterward to strengthen their argument, I find it difficult to believe that it was sarcasm.

Given the fact you obviously have not played Origins or DA2...you obviously do not understand nor do you grasp the hard work that goes into making these mods.

I am good friends who made some of the best mods for Origins. Alot of work went into to making those mods and they are still popular to this day.

I don't care how people mod their game.    And the technically savvy will eventually get those mods to work

Appearances mods and lore breaking mods are the ones I despise the most. Sure I'm not playing them, but whenever people post their screenshots about their sex-ed up Aveline or Merrill, I feel like slapping them hard with a big stinky fish.

Have to respectfully disagree. My friend did some enhanced romance mods for Origins. She worked hard on them and they're still popular to this day.

I agree about the mods changing Aveline, etc.

I would also NEVER use those and I would NEVER use mods that change Dorian's sexuality or Cassandras.

But what people do is their business. We can't control that.

Doesn't really but why get a game just so you can make it easier because you can't handle it ?

Because combat (which is basically the only thing people make easier) is just one aspect of the game, and one that not everyone enjoys as much as the other aspects? And it's not necessarily about not being able to "handle" it, it could be about "I've fought these darn darkspawn in the Deep Roads on five playthroughs already, and now I just want to get to the Landsmeet as quickly as possible to test out that one option I haven't taken yet."

That's a simplistic view. It's at least as common with mods that make games more challenging or modify encounters for more variety. Maybe the game's difficulty isn't enough once you have endgame gear, like in DAI? Maybe you want better enemy AI? Maybe you want enemies that have less health, but hit harder?

Also as pointed out above, there are several reasons why someone would want to make the game easier in one way or another. The point is that mods allow you to play the game exactly as you want it - which usually isn't exactly as it was designed in its vanilla incarnation.

Dude, I've beaten DAO and DA2 on Nightmare without mods. Even if I did feel the need to prove myself/show off, which I don't, that's already done, trophy collected, blah-de-blah blah. If I want to install mods to speed up my 9th playthrough, who cares? Hell, if I want to speed up my FIRST playthrough, who cares? I'm not that insecure.

Some people do feel that their accomplishments are diminished by the accomplishments of others, but that's like peeking over the dividers at the urinal. The engineering specifications of the person next to you don't change a single thing about what's going on in front of you.

I think the OP is being silly. Mods don't hurt gamers or devs. I mean, look at them:

300px-Old_Mods_photo.jpg

They look so happy to have got that scooter!  Besides, I think they're too busy fighting the Rockers to have any effect on DLC policy.

Those were the days!

Mods are great why doesn't BioWare just hire the modders or make mods themselves. They could sell the mods as DLC on multiple platforms and make tons of cash.

Counter strike and Dota would like a word with you...

Mods extend games life spans, fix bugs that developers are unable or too lazy to fix and sometimes actually outshine the games they were originally designed for..

If mods are so great why doesn't BioWare just hire the modders or make mods themselves. They could sell the mods as DLC on multiple platforms and make tons of cash.

Desert Combat (DC) is a mod for the first-person shooter (FPS) computer game Battlefield 1942, created by Frank Delise,[2] Tim Brophy,[3] Stephen Wells, and Brian Holinka. DC features many new weapons and new Conquest and Capture the flag Maps. DC is set in Iraq during the first Gulf War. It acquired popularity since the 2003 invasion of Iraq by Coalition forces and has been featured on many media websites..

Trauma Studios
Main article: Trauma Studios

On September 1, 2004, Digital Illusions CE (DICE) bought Trauma Studios, the developers of the Desert Combat Battlefield 1942 modification to help work on Battlefield 2.

Shortly before the release of Battlefield 2, DICE announced that the company has "decided to discontinue the New York office, Trauma Studios." DICE will no longer pay $200,000 in outstanding funds from the original deal.[6]

In 2006 the core members of Trauma Studios were hired by game publisher, THQ, forming Kaos Studios.[7]

It happens.

NWN and NWN2 have a lot of mods, At the same time Bioware and Obsidian released 3 full expansion packs for each one. Many players used to buy and play them along with the mods that they could have for free. They are not mutual exclusive.

And NWN and NWN2 are still played today by many of us thanks to the mods. Some months ago I re-purchased a NWN gold edition because I lost my CD and I needed to reinstall it for some new mod. Mods doesn't kill the games, at the opposite they are one of the best way to lengthen their life.

Yeah, mods are bad for games alright. Just like some of the great games I've play by reliable, diligent developers that have been made better with the inclusion of mods. Those modders should be banned alright

Just wanted to let you know I agree. That "make Isabella white" mod is so racist, especially because she isn't really black... A lot of people just hate dark skin on people, I guess. :/ I find it strange too, I thought people loved tans?

And there's another that alters characters' appearances so they can round around naked with different sized boobs and penises... It's not an armor mod, it's just a mod that lets you run around naked with different proportions. I like to think many modders have no lives lol some of them are so stupid... I'm not against modding though, especially ones that patch the game. Lord knows The Sims 3 needed modders to survive. EA NEVER PATCHED ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just left it to the modders, I'm so glad I didn't spend money on it. And I love the dao and da2 mods that let you open chests without a rogue in the party. God, I hate rogues...

But yeah, appearance changing mods like the ones you describe, I hate those. The devs made the characters a certain way, I feel like no one should ever change them, unless they really really hate the character. I think it shows disrespect.

I agree 100% I love armour and weapon mods to death and character creation mods rock. It irks me though when I see someone playing with a "make aveline prettier" or "Kawaii Morrigan" mod. I know they can play the game however they like but I just don't see the point in changing the appearance of the characters. They were made that way for a reason, what right do these people have to change that!? My only exception is a mod that makes sten more closely resemble da2 qunari for lore continuity.

Or sex scene/nude mods. It's a video game...is explicit sex really necessary? It just seems weird.

Because if people charged for mods, no one would buy them.

no if you charged for mods it would be illegal so there are some web sites which charge you for membership before allowing you to download the mod to avoid this...

I think the nude mods improved DAO considerably. Seeing piles of naked corpses in Fort Drakon is somehow more horrifying than seeing piles of corpses that have been able to retain their modesty.

Similarly, Cailan's body in RtO lacks dignity when nude, compared to the more dignified appearance it has with underwear.
