I know, just look at how those evil modders destroyed TES! No one ever buys the expansions for those games. Same with DA:O and Awakening. Total failure thanks to mods.

I will take it as a joke LMAO . here you have someone who just bough Awakening and still still crying over DAO being finished . I started the saga last month ... and because some scenes didn't fulfilled my wishes .. MOD AWAY!! :D

NWN and NWN2 have a lot of mods, At the same time Bioware and Obsidian released 3 full expansion packs for each one. Many players used to buy and play them along with the mods that they could have for free. They are not mutual exclusive.

And NWN and NWN2 are still played today by many of us thanks to the mods. Some months ago I re-purchased a NWN gold edition because I lost my CD and I needed to reinstall it for some new mod. Mods doesn't kill the games, at the opposite they are one of the best way to lengthen their life.

Also, BioWare patched NWN 31 separate times, and you could choose which version if the game you played. That's post-release support.

BioWare could be working on bug fixes and DLC. Instead they are putting time/money/effort in banning the mods. Because of mods we get less bug fixes and DLC and its not fair to those of us who don't use mods.

I'm not going to read through multiple pages to see if it's already been mentioned....

But the devs have explained on Reddit that they are NOT actively trying to negate modding. However, they 100% DO NOT SUPPORT MODS.

So here is what happens...

They work on the game, fixing bugs, adding content, etc etc, and that may include re-arranging data (to put it quite simply) and restructuring things.

Now, mods rely on data being arranged in a certain way, so the slightest change will break them.

Bioware devs are NOT concerned about mods because they DO NOT SUPPORT IT AT ALL. So they will change whatever needs to be changed to make the VANILLA game work the way they want it.

They DO NOT consider how the changes they make, will affect the modding community, because...THEY SIMPLY DO NOT SUPPORT MODDING.

I am pretty sure that if they could, they would give us a toolkit. But that will NEVER happen with Frostbite 3 because EA is precious about their engine and there are so many middleware programs licensed to other companies being used with Frostbite, that it would be an absolute nightmare trying to license it all for a toolset. More likely IMPOSSIBLE.

So rest easy, son. Bioware is NOT trying to be spiteful. They are simply trying to improve their VANILLA GAME for the good of everyone (except PC. They don't really care that much about PC).

That's a simplistic view. It's at least as common with mods that make games more challenging or modify encounters for more variety. Maybe the game's difficulty isn't enough once you have endgame gear, like in DAI? Maybe you want better enemy AI? Maybe you want enemies that have less health, but hit harder?

Also as pointed out above, there are several reasons why someone would want to make the game easier in one way or another. The point is that mods allow you to play the game exactly as you want it - which usually isn't exactly as it was designed in its vanilla incarnation.

That sounds like an excuse for when people mod their controllers or mod in other games and exploit things while others player can't enjoy a game cause another group does something that makes them invincible. Invisible move faster do more damage etc. I'm already waiting for someone to mod like they did mass effect and friendly fire on everyone in multiplayer on purpose

Modding a multiplayer game isn't the same as single player

I think also they said (or someone else) that when creating patches that are compatible with mods it severely constrains what you can do.

Appearances mods and lore breaking mods are the ones I despise the most. Sure I'm not playing them, but whenever people post their screenshots about their sex-ed up Aveline or Merrill, I feel like slapping them hard with a big stinky fish.

The mods that have Aveline, or Merrill, or any character pimped up are grossing me out, but even some cosmetic mods have their merits (like the one that fixes Merrill's post-romance armor by removing its pearly shine and the piece of chainmail texture slapped on her neck).

I have Merill's mod only because I can't stand how the elves look in this game

she's a bit less annoying with mods

Well I'm using a whole batch of mods that alter party members' appearance. As far as I'm concerned it's my copy of the game, nobody but me plays it, and if others have a problem with that, too bad.

None of these appearance mods 'sex up' the characters. rather they are attempts to give consistency to the characters' appearance between the three games. For instance my DA:O Isabella mod makes her look the same in Origins as she does in DA:2, same for my Flemeth and Zevran mods. My Morrigan mod for Inquisition changes her appearance to more closely resemble her DA:O version.

I'm also using a Merril mod, called Magic Merril, that I use simply because I love the way the developer re-created her, simple as that.

3860-2-1384818242.jpg

In addition I've got whole batches of high-res textures, Sweet FX lighting rigs, mods that remove visual effects from enchanted weapons etc. and the ability to respec party members on the fly in DA:O, and more besides.

Please don't tell me what I can and cannot do with my own game. Nothing I do is going to affect you in the slightest, and if you have an issue with my Magic Merril mod, simply don't use it yourself. Don't think to deny me the opportunity.

I also use mods that make flemeth, merril, and isabella resemble their DA2 selves, I'd forgotten that. To me that's just about consistency between the games. As for that magic merrill mod. I still see it as an excuse to make a character "prettier". I see no reason to make characters prettier than they already are. The world is full of all kinds of people, not everyone is pretty.

Yes it's to make her prettier, or more accurately, it's almost entirely to do with aesthetics.... and also because I just find her original version very, very child-like, nothing like I'd imagine a powerful Dalish Elf to be in reality. Any attempt to romance her on a male Hawk felt weirdly disturbing, having said that my actual 'canon' Hawke is female and romanced Fenris.

All I can say is that (once again) it's my copy of the game, and nobody by myself is going to be playing it. If I decided to add a mod that changes Alistair into naked albino dwarf with a horses head it's totally my choice to do so, Nobody else is affected.

Good point.  They are, after all, the people who make the game, so they'd know best.
